The Snow Ferrets and the Shinju Necklace (completed)

Chapter 1

After Ms. Spitha explained the situation, seeming very relieved that we agreed to help, we finished the party and went to the small house we will be spending the last night in together after saying goodbye to our parents and watching them leave for their homes. There wasn't a single person without tears in their eyes.

Me and my Dad talked a lot and I ended up giving him half of my prize money. I wanted to give more, but he would take no more, so he ended up with half.

Also, surprisingly, the leaders gave us the ferrets we had to find during Capture the Flag. I was reunited with Zap and Terro finally named his. Pebble.

We had spoken the day before and decided that we were going to slip away tonight, before we are supposed to be taken back to our cities.

We acted all sad, but inside we were excited.

We get to stay together. I can't even believe it!

And the news.......

Wow.

Mr. Baja....trying to take the Shinju Necklace? Who would have thought....

If only Ms. Spitha had been able to specify as to what exactly the Shinju Necklace is.

"You guys ready?" Ignis asks us after we all get dark clothes on.

"Heck yeah woman!" Nero exclaims.

Ignis is in front of him in a second, a flame hovering by his neck, "Don't ever say that again." She growls.

Kin, Neve, and Anemos chuckle as Nero nods fearfully and Ignis blows away the flame.

"Well then, let's go." The fire girl says, walking over and opening the window.

"These outfits are so cool!" Kin whispers excitedly to me as we start walking towards the window, "They make me feel like a ninja! And I'm so glad I got Key back!" She adds affectionately as the metallic ferret nuzzles her from her shoulder.

"Yeah, Zap's been great!" I giggle as said lightning ferret nuzzles my cheek, tickling it with the slight shock. A shock that could stun anyone who isn't a lightning elementalist. I briefly scratch behind her ears before reaching the window and gripping it with my hands. I look over the edge and feel a hint of fear squeeze my heart as I see the long drop down, Ignis, Nero, and Anemos all down there.

"So I just....jump?" I whisper to Kin.

She nods and I gulp.

Ms. Spitha has informed us that there was some sort of thing down there that made it safe to jump, but I can't see it.

"Blitz, we're wasting time!" Kin whispers, hurrying me.

"Okay, okay it's just...." I trail off, looking over the window again.

Kin's eyes soften, "Yeah."

Terro groans, "Blitz! Hurry up!"

I shoot a glare at him, "Maybe you should just go first then if you're so- WHOA! WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!?" I shout as Terro rolls his eyes and picks me up.

"No, you go first, chicken." He says, holding me out the window and letting go.

"AHH!" I exclaim, grabbing his hands at the last minute. His face breaks into surprise before my weight pulls him over the edge and we're both falling.

I feel my stomach shoot into my throat as gravity does that weird thing it does when you fall before I am suddenly sitting in the grass between Terro and Anemos.

"Wha...? What happened?" I ask the wind boy.

He smiles, "I know, right? Isn't it so cool!" He gets a dreamy look in his eyes, "Ahh, physics."

I hear a sigh on the other side of the daydreaming boy and lean forward to see Fog perched on Anemos' shoulder.

I grin.

We each decided the best place for the ferrets would be our shoulders, so that's where they're at.

I reach out and rustle the fluffy ferret's fur. He squeaks in protest and disappears in Anemos' shirt.

"Whoa!" He cries, surprised, while I laugh beside him.

"SHH!"

I look up to see Ignis shushing us, a frown on her face, "We have to be quiet, remember?" She hisses before turning back and helping the rest of the team down.

I snort and roll my eyes as Kin walks over, looking dizzy.

"Wow! That's weird!" She exclaims, sitting down next to me.

I roll my eyes, "Even weirder when someone throws you out the window!" I say, shooting a glare at Terro, who just grins.

Kin giggles, "Yeah, that was funny!"

"You guys are so perfect together!" Anemos laughs out of the blue.

My eyebrows raise and Terro's mouth drops open.

"Wha-what?" He stutters.

Anemos rolls his eyes, "Come on, you two are perfect for each other!"

I just stare at him while Terro processes this information before smirking.

"Yeah Blitz!" He exclaims dramatically, "We must be soulmates!" He cries, leaning forward to give me a kiss.

I glare at him before slapping his across the face, making sure I throw some electricity into it. A painful sounding slap cracks through the night and I give him another glare before darting away to Ignis, who is cracking up.

"Oh....my.....gosh!" She laughs, "Did you really just do that?"

I nod firmly, frowning, "Stupid Terro."

"Yeah, they're all the same. Here, help me get Neve down." She says, looking up at the window and seeing the ice girl, who looks very scared.

We have to wait a couple minutes for Neve to steel her nerves before she jumps, dropping through the sky like a rock through water.

I frown and look to where she should land but find nothing but grass. What is this strange device that stops us from breaking a leg?

Neve lands on the grass and her body actually goes through the grass before she is in the air again.

"Whoa!" I say, running forward and catching her.

The girl looks dizzy so I set her down where she can lean against the building she just jumped out of.

I give her an encouraging smile before walking over to Ignis, "Hey Ignis! What is that thing?" I ask, pointing to the spot where Neve rebounded into the air.

"I think it's a trampoline thing covered by a grass projection." She answers as we walk over towards the others.

I nod. Makes sense.

We get to the others and I can see both nervousness and excitement twinkling in everyone's eyes. I feel my mouth stretch into a smile.

"You guys ready?" Ignis asks. Everyone nods, standing up.

I grin, "Then lets go catch those beetles!"

Everyone grins and we walk away, our quest for the Shinju Necklace beginning.
