I woke up to my alarm blaring in my ear. I was groggy and fumbled to turn the stupid thing off. Old Man jumped off the bed and walked out of the room. I rolled over and stared at the ceiling debating how long I should lay here. Old Man barked in the living room. I guess he made the decision for me.
I got up dragging the covers with me so I could hide my nakedness. As I walked into the living room Old Man was standing at the back door growling. I slowly made my way to see what he was barking at. My eyes searched along the tree line and there it was. There was a man watching us. I pulled Old Man away from the door and looked around the room.
I saw the business card from Alpha Terrance and I immediately picked it up along with my phone. I dialed the number and as I waited for someone to pick up I made my way to my room and put Old Man in the bathroom. On the third ring someone answered, "Hello?" I began to talk quickly, "Is this Alpha Terrance?" I heard the person on the other end clear their throat, "This is he, who is this?" I went back to the door and the man was still there, "This is Maxine Blake, do you still have men posted outside of my house?"
There was a pause, "No... I don't. Why?" I froze, "Are you sure?" I could hear the aggravation in his voice, "I'm positive, what is this about?" I strained my eyes to see the man and I could see him smiling, "There is someone watching me... and if it isn't your men then..." I started to back away until I bumped into the arm chair, "Then what?" The Alpha seemed concerned at this point. I took a deep breath, "Then I'm in serious trouble."
At that moment I ran to my room and dressed quickly. I shut the door behind me with Old Man barking non stop trying to get out the bathroom. The Alpha spoke up, "Why would you be in trouble? Who is watching you?" I zipped up my pants, "I'm not sure who it is, but I know who sent him here. Have you kept track of the growing gang of rogues?" Another pause, "Yes, but they haven't been detected in my territory. The only intruder we have had was you and that's it. Why?"
I took a deep breath, "Well I'm very familiar with the group. They have a leader, and prior to me coming here the 'King' as they call him kept me captive for two years. I managed to get away... I thought I lost them... but it appears I'm wrong." Old Man's barking turned to viscous snarls and I heard the back door slam open.
Shit. "I have to go, if I call then I handled it, if I don't... well it was nice talking to you." I pressed the end button and threw the phone on the bed. Foot steps came my way and I prepared for what was to come. I grabbed a pole that I kept behind my dresser and waited for whoever this soldier of the King was to walk in. The door creaked open and I held my breath.
The minute our eyes met I exhaled quite loudly like an impatient child. Why do all the hot ones have to be screwed up? He sneered, "And he said this would be a challenge." My anger flared up as he came towards me. I ran towards him and he went to grab me, but I dropped and slid between his legs. I hit him at the bend of the back of his knees.
He clambered to the ground as I went to hit him again. He rolled over as I brought the pole down causing me to miss him. He kicked my feet out from under me. I dropped the pole and he straddled me holding my hands down. "I can see why he likes you so much. He shouldn't mind if I have a little fun with you first."
He leaned down to kiss me and I head butted him. I heard a loud crack and he fell off of me. He was holding his nose and the smell of blood filled the air. Maxine Blake one, bad guy zero. I grabbed the vase off of my shelf and slammed it into the back of his head. He collapsed on the floor indicating he was out.
I opened one of my dresser drawers and pulled out a rope. That probably sounds strange for someone to keep rope in their bedroom, but when you live the life of a rogue you should always be prepared. I pulled the guy's hands behind his back and bent his legs at the knee so I could hog tie him. After I tied him up Old Man's barking came into focus so I went to let him out of the bathroom. He sniffed me all over checking to see if I was okay.
