A persistent beeping noise woke me up. My vision was blurry, but it eventually came into focus. The room I was in looked like a hospital so I assumed it belonged to the pack. My nose burned from he smell of alcohol. I tried to take a look around the room, but my entire body was stiff. One smell in particular invaded my senses... Pine and fresh rain... Derrek.
I managed to turn my head enough to where I could see Derrek asleep in the arm chair. My heart started racing, the monitor echoed my internal workings. My fingers fumbled for the nurse button. Within minutes an older woman with blonde hair came in wearing pink scrubs, "You're awake, I'll go get the doctor."
I cleared my throat, "Bring the Alpha." She paused, a wary expression on her face, but she nodded. My eyes began to drift shut but I forced them to stay open. After a few more minutes, who I assumed to be, the doctor walked in with Terrance behind him. The doctor checked my vitals while I glared at Terrance, "You said it was a false alarm."
He looked exhausted, "That's what I wa-" I cut him off, "You didn't put only me in danger, you put your son and my mate in danger. Who does patrols? How could you let him in to your territory?" I knew he didn't like me pushing boundaries with my accusations, but I could see the understanding in his eyes. "Listen, I know you're upset, but I've been chewing people out trying to get to the bottom of what happened."
I took a deep breath, "I'm sorry... I just... I should have left the moment I knew he found me. Then none of this would be happening." Terrance's eyes shot to the other side of my bed and he paled the slightest shade. My eyes followed his gaze. Derrek was awake and he looked really confused, "I think it's time someone tells me what's going on..." Terrance tried to speak but I cut him off, "I'll do it, just give me some time to figure out the right words."
Derrek's eyes softened, but I could tell he was frustrated with the whole situation. His hand wrapped around my much smaller one and the warm sparks traveled up my arm. He smiled, but it was a weird one,"I'm going to go out on a limb and say you don't create a lot of static electricity." Laughing hurt, but I did it anyways, "You would be right."
I turned to Terrance, "We need to have a talk about the ceremony, but first I need to know when I can get up." He smiled, "We can still proceed with the ceremony today." The doctor chimed in, "You'll be sore, but you can get up now if you would like." I nodded, "Are any of my things here?"
Terrance answered, "Yes, we packed all of your things and brought them here. Computers, laptops, clothes, your white arm chair, things for Old Man, the whole nine." Old Man, "Speaking of which where is my dog?" Terrance smiled, "My daughter took a liking to him, I believe they're playing dress up in her room."
My eyebrows rose considerably, "Dress up?" I snorted, "I would love to see that." Terrance nodded, "Jason brought an outfit for you to wear." He went over to a closet and pulled out what looked to be a sweat shirt and yoga pants. He handed me the clothes, "Thank you."
I tried to sit up, but it took a lot of effort. Derrek helped me out of the bed as soon as the doctor unhooked me from all of the devices. He helped me to the bathroom and turned around while I got dressed. "The doctor was right, I'm definitely sore." We both laughed until Derrek turned around with a worried expression, "Are you sure you should be getting up? Shouldn't you at least have a cast? Hell even some bandaging?"
I sighed, "Don't worry I heal fast. I can explain it later." I brushed a piece of hair behind my ear and moved to leave the bathroom. Derrek gently grabbed my arm, "Here, let me help you." My smile was weak but I accepted his offer.
We walked out of the room into the lobby area. Jason was waiting for us. "Finally, dad wants me to take you to your room. Everything is set up, follow me." He took us through the front door down a sidewalk with an awning that led to the big house.
I wanted to move faster, but my body wouldn't let me. Eventually we made it inside and we turned a couple of corners before reaching the entry way. Jason led us to the left into a living room with an enormous sitting area and a t.v. to match.
Then there were stairs, "I knew you were trying to kill me..." Jason laughed, "Don't worry, this is the special rogue treatment." I hoped he could feel me glaring at the back of his head while we walked up the stairs.
I had to stop halfway up, "Hold on, my back still hurts." My back was on fire, Jason was serious, "I'm surprised you made it, Thomas broke your back in three places along with some of your ribs... You really do heal quickly." Thomas. I sped up my pace, "What happened to Thomas?" Jason stopped, "I don't know how to tell you this, but Thomas... he got away..."
