Kayla came home and put her keys on the counter in the kitchen. She washed her hands and immediately went for a snack when she heard something break all of a sudden. Grabbing a switchblade she carried in her coat pocket, she went to investigate the noise. She wasn't about to let some stranger scare her away from her own house.
After turning on all the lights and thoroughly searching her home, she was confused to find that a small vase in the living room had been knocked over. No one was there.
Maybe I have mice? She thought. She'd literally checked every corner of the house. Kayla stood there for a moment, confused.
Then the lights went out.
And she heard a sound like wind picking up outside. A loud groaning sound was heard, and that's when she began to worry. She drew the blinds and looked outside.
Darkness.
Then two large yellow eyes peering at her. She gasped and put her hand over her mouth, hoping that this was just a terrible nightmare and that she was about to wake up.
Then she heard a rattling behind her. The wind seemed to come inside the house, picking things up into the air like a small tornado. She began to hear voices of maniacal laughter sounding in her ears. The voices seemed to affect her emotions as well until it seemed like she was suffering from the same madness. Dishes exploded from the cabinets and started throwing themselves at the walls. Kayla screamed. There were no neighbors nearby to hear her. All the while, the wind was ripping her house to shreds. Curtains tore, glass was everywhere, flying tables missed her body by an inch or so. She tried to run, but the wind kept her in place. Then she saw the teeth of the thing that had glared at her. Its smile spanned the entire length of the window, and she nearly peed herself.
"It will be your turn soon, little one," it said in a deep, gravely voice. Its cold, pale eyes pierced her soul and made her feel weak and helpless."You and the Maestro should have prepared for what's going to happen to this world when I decide to strike. My minions have done tremendous work in helping me regain my strength. He will suffer. The only reason I'm telling you this is because you will deliver the message to him personally...As one of the dead!" He and his minions laughed in synch. Just when the creature opened his mouth to devour her with its many rows of teeth, she felt a presence on either side. A man and a woman burst into the wind and the spirits howled in agony. They dropped Kayla, where she landed the wrong way on her knee. She heard a cracking sound and a shooting pain in her leg made her scream again. The couple grabbed her, and much to her disbelief, they apparated into an entirely different environment. It appeared to be a mansion, with high walls and ornate furniture and paintings. She was in too much pain to notice any other details.
"Where am I and who are you?!?" She yelped. "What is happening....WHAT WAS THAT THING IN MY WINDOW?"
"Our master sent us to protect you, Kayla," the man responded. "I'm Flaen, and this is Minerva. We are spirits of protection."
"Spirits!? What..."
"I know this is a lot to take in, " Minerva crouched down where she sat on the floor to look her in the eye, "but you aren't dreaming. If it weren't for our master sensing you were in danger, you would've been killed tonight."
"Master? Who is your master?"
The two looked at each other uncomfortably." We call him Maestro".
Just then they heard hurried footsteps. A man appeared. He seemed to have a grey hoodie on and black pants. He came from the shadows hesitantly.
At the sight of him, Kayla nearly fainted.Michael. Michael was in this too.
~
"Kayla...Kayla calm down!" Michael pleaded. She'd started wailing and throwing anything she could reach. She was angry, and rightfully so.
