A Month later........
------------------------------------------------------------
Caderyn's POV
The music was haunting and slow as the sweaty bodies swayed to it in the dim ballroom.
The fire place in the grand hall was going as the music notes consumed the guests to move, to flirt not with words but with their bodies. Everyone was wearing their finest allure and behind each of their masks they used their eyes to draw each other in. Desperate to make a connection with their dance partners hoping to go home with the promise of a love match.
Mothers observed and fused over their daughters trying to make sure they were at their best for the males in the room. They were all willing to sell out their daughters to become attached to a family of power and wealth. Although I would be their main target there were many powerful young men here waiting for the scraps of whatever I disliked.
It was the perfect event to be at for any mother wanting to marry off their daughters. The men weren't complaining about the attention of the young beauties either.
Everyone was enjoying this rare occasion to celebrate and mingle! Everyone that is, but me.
Like a hawk I hovered above the great hall on top of my golden throne watching and waiting. Waiting for what, I was not sure! Whether it was for something exciting and new or a threat I could not be sure. All I knew was that with the charge in the air something was going to happen tonight. Something that will set this night ablaze with unforgettable memories!
Whether they would be good or bad was still unknown to me.
So keeping my guard up, I watch and I wait.
Something was coming and I had to be prepared for when it does!

Aoife's POV
"Are you sure this isn't too much?" I asked Alexander as he offered his hand to escort me over the stairs leading to the front of the castle.
The ball gown I had on seemed too much to me and after being in armour for the past year, the corset and wide skirt made me uncomfortable. It was clear at least to me that I was unused to the art of swirling skirts and the heavy weight the dress put on my hips.
"Of course not my dear, just remember to stay calm and stick to the plan!" He reminded me for the hundredth time.
I did not respond because I knew if my temper got the best of me, plans would go out the window and I would act! Hidden within my dress were multiple short swords and daggers, ready to be used and were just sharpened before this very event.
There was no way I was doing this without some form of protection!
I curtseyed to the guards at the ballroom doors as Alexander worked his magic to get us within the ballroom. Keeping my eyes low and back straight I tried to appear as the perfect lady of society even though I was far from it!
"I am King Alexander of the North and this is my daughter Saoirse that I proudly present to you. We are here for the King Caderyn's ball" Alexander lied with ease. "Unfortunately my unwell wife was unable to make it so I am here in her place in hopes of presenting my daughter to the King!"
After looking over a guest list the guards opened the doors to the ballroom and allowed us through. Taking a deep breath I thanked my lucky stars that Alexander had a daughter around my age that no one had met before.
Taking Alexander's arm and I entered the lion's den, praying I didn't do anything to ruin our plans.
Step one: getting into the ball was now complete.
Now onto step two!
