The moment Ellie made it into her bus seat, she grabbed her phone and messaged Dina to inform her that she had made it on the bus. Cat watched amused from the adjacent bus seat and sat up, vying for her attention.
"Hello? How about a thank you for coming to get you?" Cat smirked as Ellie responded to the flirty, ambiguous message Dina had sent, not sparing a glance at Cat but responding verbally.
"I'll be dealing with you momentarily," Ellie said, wrapping up her text to Dina before putting her phone away in her backpack, clearing her throat, lacing her hands, and taking a deep breath before going off, her eyes wild with faux frustration.
"You fucking cockblocked me. All your talk about 'Oh Ellie, why don't you guys kiss?' Was BULLSHIT. You couldn't wait literally a SECOND longer to approach us, could you NOT see what was happening? What was ABOUT to happen finally?" Ellie exclaimed as Cat kept laughing and laughing over her crash out, doubling over in the bus seat.
"I... didn't want you to miss... the bus." Cat bemoaned between bouts of laughter, clutching her stomach as Ellie groaned into her hands.
"Never EVER tell me I don't make moves, because every time I do for some reason you HAVE to be near me or INTERRUPTING."
Cat at this point was almost touching the bus floor, laughing so hard she could no longer speak as Riley looked over the seat ahead of Ellie.
"So I take it you both made up?"
"Yes, and we could've made OUT if SOMEONE had let me miss the bus."
"I'm sorryyyyy I'll make it up to you I promise!!" Cat whined as Ellie huffed, looking away from her dramatically.
"See to it that you will."
"So, it turns out the all-knowing Riley was right about the homecoming proposal being a miscommunication?" Riley asked as Ellie nodded, looking a little sheepish.
"Yes you were. It was a misunderstanding after all, like you both insinuated," Ellie looked down at her hands, "I'm sorry I got ahead of myself and moped about all week. Must've sucked for you guys."
Riley shook her head and ruffled Ellie's damp hair, the striker ducking out of reach with a glare.
"The only thing that sucked was watching you spiral without having all the facts." Riley said as Ellie grimaced, knowing she was right, as usual.
"I'm trying to work on that."
"Well if it means anything to you, I think this is improvement considering you didn't cut Dina off and let her explain herself." Riley said as Ellie smiled, her face reddening at the mere mention of Dina.
"I'm sorry you took the brunt of heat for me. Mel should've been yelling at me and not you." Ellie apologized as Riley's face went through several emotions, settling on blank which piqued Ellie's interest.
"It's okay, I'm just glad you both figured it out for yourselves, we were getting worried about you both." Riley said diplomatically as Ellie nodded before hesitating, narrowing her eyes.
" 'We?' I didn't know you guys talked."
"Yeah, its good for other captains to bounce drill ideas off of one another for practice, so we are familiar with texting one another. So after last weeks debacle, we went back and forth on the both of you moping the week away."
Ellie laughed and punched Riley's shoulder over the bus seat, scoring a look from Coach Maria at the commotion as Riley retreated back into the seat with a smile, Cat changing the subject.
