"We're going to be late if Cat doesn't hurry the fuck up." Ellie grumbled as Riley honked the horn again, parked outside Cat's house.
"What did you expect? That girl would be late to her funeral."
Ellie hummed at this.
"Sorry I couldn't drive today, something is wrong with my car and Joel's taking it to a shop."
"Don't worry about it, I like driving anyways."
At hearing a door slam, the pair watched as a rather disheveled Cat finally shuffled out of her house, practically collapsing into the car as Ellie swiveled her head to look at her.
"Hey, have you seen my friend? She's about yay high and usually high herself and-"
Cat swatted at Ellie tiredly and rubbed her eyes as she buckled her seat belt, Riley driving off quickly.
"I didn't get much sleep. I forgot about today if I'm being honest." Cat said, drinking some sort of artificially green drink that made Ellie cringe.
"Would regular coffee kill you?"
"Not as fast as I'm hoping this will."
Ellie snickered and turned back in her seat, grabbing the aux chord and connecting it to her phone, opening her kickass playlist and pressing shuffle, Space Junk by Wang Chung drifting through the car as Riley groaned.
"You and your old man music."
"This 'old man' music is absolutely bitchin'."
"Okay now you're laying it on a bit thick."
"What's your damage Riley?" Ellie exclaimed in a valley girl voice as Riley shoved her.
"I will turn this car around so help me god."
Ellie laughed and rested her head against the headrest.
"Ready to watch Salida get their asses kicked?" Cat interjected from the backseat, seemingly more awake as Riley nodded excitedly.
"Absolutely. The Basin big horns defense line is impenetrable. Hell, we barely pulled a win over them last week." Riley continued as Ellie half-listened, in her own world as she stared out the window at the trees whipping past the car as Riley drove.
About an hour or so later, the girl's parked and both Ellie and Riley hopped out of the car, the captain stretching her arms with a groan as Cat continued to sit in the car and do her makeup.
"Cat, we aren't going to a pageant." Ellie jested as Cat flipped her off and continued to apply her eyeliner, refusing to retort and ruin her progress thus far.
Riley checked the time, happy to have arrived to the high school early enough that they had time to lag behind.
"Aaaand... done. Okay, lets get this show on the road." Cat said as she got out of the passenger seat and applied lip gloss as they walked, Ellie squinting under the bright sun.
"It's going to be a hot one today. The breeze is almost insulting." Ellie commented as they made it to the soccer field, passively showing their student ids to the person running the ticket booth who gave them a nod and go ahead gesture. Students got in for free, which Ellie thanked her lucky stars for, as working in a public library certainly didn't make her a millionaire by any stretch of the word.
"Which side are we sitting on ladies?" Riley asked, Cat turning to look at Ellie as her face reddened at all the eyes on her. Salida did have the better bleachers and it was closer to the parking lot, but the Basin side barely had anyone since they were the visitors.
