A/N: The picture above is Zoe.
Since this is based off of The Walking Dead, some characters will not have pictures because I'm assuming they look the same from the television series. This chapter is not very long, nor does it have much action. I hope you enjoy!

It was a gloomy night. The birds were silent and the air had a certain chill that was unsettling. Scratch that. I was just thinking of every zombie, chick flick movie ever. Here's the reality of it all.

It was a day like any other. I was curled up with my family on the white and pink sheets of my bed and we were watching a movie that had Chris Pratt in it, so it was, as you should imagine, amazing.

We were watching the movie in my room because my Grammy got me a huge ass T.V. I got up to get a refill on the popcorn because, not even an hour into the movie, the popcorn was all gone, it was a group effort.

When I ran downstairs I realized that the door was unlocked. So me, being the paranoid fifteen year old that I am, locked it. You know, just in case a murder goes into the neighborhood looking for a victim to sink his knife into, ending their life. My dad was right, I need to stop watching Dateline.

I went back to my room and closed the door. I laid down next to Cassidy, my younger sister, and across from my dad. We all tried to be together on this day specifically because it's the anniversary of when we lost my mom to breast cancer. We all miss her a lot, so we try to take our minds off of it with movies. I cradled Cassidy in my arms and exchanged glances with my dad.

Have I mentioned how much I love Chris Pratt? No? Okay, moving on. A half an hour later when it was finally getting to my favorite part I noticed I couldn't keep my eyes open, and eventually fell asleep.

When I awoke, my dad and sister were no longer in my room. They probably were downstairs making breakfast or something. I got up, went into the pastel green bathroom, my color choice, and put my hair up in a messy bun and ran down the steps.

When I got on the landing I saw my dad and sister eating cereal. Just as I had thought.
"Hey dad." I told my father. For what it's worth, my dad and I are extremely close. It's pretty easy to be when he's the only parent I have to get close to.
"Hey sweet pea. You want some cereal? Your sister told me it's her favorite recipe of mine." My dad said, jokingly.
I chuckled in response.

My dad isn't really a cook, so half of the time we get carry out or cereal. I got my Fruity Pebbles and milk, and put it in my favorite bowl. Not like it really matters because, well, it's a bowl, but it was one my mother and I made so it was special to me. I sat down eating my cereal, reading the text messages that one of my group chats had sent while I was sleeping, when I felt the ground shake.
"Dad, did yo-" I was interrupted by the sound of a huge explosion and a simultaneous rumbling of the floor. The table started to become unsteady, the clock fell off of it's position on the wall, broke, and papers started flying off of the vibrating table.

My dad grabbed my sister and I and took us into the closet. To sit under the door frame, because I think that's what you're supposed to do in an earthquake. We all held each other as close as we possibly could. Just as I thought we were going to be okay, a leather high heel boot, one of my mother's from off of the shelf, came flying down and hit me in the head. My eyesight suddenly became very hazy and all I could make out was my family in pure terror. The last thing I saw was my sister crying, and then, all went pitch black.
