Blood Rose [On hold]

Chapter 2

Elizabeth came running in holding a screaming baby covered in blood. Tony ran to her crying out loud “not my baby as well”. Elizabeth ran into Nickolas arms, “No! Nicky it’s your mother! She held Elsie and started to cough up blood, I didn’t know what to do” tears ran down her flawless skin staining Nickolas jacket with her warm tears. Antony stayed surprisingly calm, he took Elsie from Tony and ordered Elizabeth to clean the crying baby while they go and see what is going on with Katarina.

“It’s the same symptoms Betty had before she died” Dr. Watson announced in the living room during afternoon tea. Elizabeth started to cry holding on to Nickolas, Tony looked out of the window fighting the tears. Anthony just played with Elsie distracting her from the sorrow hanging in the atmosphere. “Lord Rose, I need you to give me permission to run some test and administer experimental drugs if needed since this is an unknown infection” Dr. Watson had an extremely worried look on his face. “Of course, do what is needed my good man” Anthony faked a smile handing Elsie to Nickolas and walked out into the garden. Elizabeth wanted to follow however Dr. Watson stopped her. The old doctor helped Katarina through all six her pregnancies and had no intention of abandoning the Rose family now, however as a close family friend he knows when Anthony Rose needs space.

“Come on people! We need to find out what is going on her” Dr. Watson snapped at the young doctors examining Katarina. “It is unlike any thing we had ever worked with” a young man examining Katarina’s teeth whispered under his breath. “That is why it is called an unknown disease genius! I’m not going to tell Lord Rose he lost another family member just because you did not learn how to cure unknown diseases in medical school” Watson screamed at the man making the other doctors stand still. “Take the most prominent symptoms throw them in a cocktail or figure out what they might be and administer any drug that will do more good than harm” Watson ordered. When all the doctors grabbed a book and held a meeting of the brains in the study Dr. Watson walked to the bedside holding Katarina’s hand, “We will find out what is wrong with you”. “Doctor, sorry to disturb” Dr. Cartor, the first female to be allowed to study medicine even though she is not allowed to work on a patient without a male doctors present or administer drugs without his okay, came into the room cueing him to come to her. “Excuse me sir. The maids just returned from town they say there are 30 peasants infected since this morning and it seems the Roses was its first victim. Looking at the spreading rate and the spread area it covered I think it is save to conclude that is not an air born disease, since it was only Betty and Katarina effected by it while no one else in the house has fallen ill yet” what she was saying made Dr. Watson feel uneasy that they have no way of protecting others. “So we will call it the Rose illness. Run whatever tests you think will give us answers” Watson replied. “But sir I’m only allowed to work on patient with a male doctor present” Cartor seemed uncomfortable talking back to the head doctor like that. “And still you gave me more answers then any of the other eight doctors” Dr. Watson opened the door slowly. “The Rose illness. That is sadly ironic since the illness makes them bleed. Their blood reminds me of a scarlet rose” Her comment made Dr. Watson look down at the ground and walk out, “you just named your first illness Dr. Cartor” the door slammed close. “He trust you with everything my dear” Katarina’s soft voice made Dr. Cartor jump. “What is your name sweet heart?” Katarina’s bleeding eyes looked sincere and full of pain. “My name is Abigail Cartor my lady. I’ll do my best to make you feel better”. “Even if I die it is an honor to help a lady like you make a name for our fair gender” Katarina took Dr. Cartor’s hand in hers. Katarina’s grip loosened and she was unresponsive to Dr. Cartor calling her name. Dr. Cartor jumped up and screamed out the door for the other doctors to come help. Katarina’s pupils seemed to be responsive to light however she seemed to have shut down. “What have you done? Get out!” the first doctor through the door shouted and the following two grabbed Dr. Cartor carrying her out to door.
