Picture of Taylor j. CoyStanding in the airport brings back so many memories.
As I stand near the back of the crowd I watch Taylor hug and kiss his mom's cheek, whispering in her ear as she sobs uncontrollable. She didn't want to lose another one of her boys.
Mrs.Coy just lost her second oldest son about a year ago, then her husband in a car accident. If she loses Taylor too....... I don't think she's going to make it.
Taylor looks over at me and makes a small smile, but I don't return it. He makes his way to his little brother Cody, who is standing near me trying to hold in his tears. Cody is the youngest of the Coy boys. Just a junior in High school and had already faced more death then most.
"Hey bud." Taylor says pulling Cody into a hug, I can hear Cody start to sniffle and I know that this isn't going to be pretty once Taylor can't see him.
"Come on Cody, I'll be back, I'll be ok. Just watch I'm going to come back here in a few months because they wont need me and we will be sitting on the couch playing Halo just like old times." Taylor said smiling, but I could see the small seed of doubt in his eye's.
Cody sniffled some more and Taylor carried on his happy talk of when he gets back.
"And will go to the fair and check out hot girls, then Krisa will get mad at me and we'll laugh about it. Then I'll help you fix up that old car you want to badly and we will take it for a ride at midnight into town blasting the music and eating way to much junk food. we will go to the lake and jump of the rope swing, we will get so sunburned mom will be cursing at us." Taylor's voice fades off a little bit, "And I'll be back to see you find the girl of your dream, I'll see you get married and have little Cody's making mischief," Taylor hold's Cody a little tighter, "And I'll help them drive you nuts."
"Taylor." Cody mumbles into his brothers chest.
Taylor pulls back and looks at his little brother who knows that there is a big possibility he wont get to do all of those things.
"You better come back here." Cody glares at his brother, "You hear me? you better come back here and do all of those things with me, you have to come back and do all of them with me, you have to come back and marry Krisa who has been so freaking patient with an idiot like you." Cody said looking over at me, Taylor followed his glaze and I looked at him.
Yeah I have been patient with this idiot. for so many years I've been by his side, but his girlfriend officially, but also not just a normal friend. We are not friends with benefits if that's what your thinking, but we are not brother and sister zoned either.
Let's just say its complicated.
"Ok." Taylor laughs and pats his brother on the head then walks over to me.
I look down and unfold my arms.
"Krisa, don't act like that." Taylor teases and wraps his arms around my waist.
"Act like what Taylor?" I say a little harshly because he doesn't have to see all the things I'm going to once he is on that plane.
"Like this is the last time you'll see me, that I wont get to do all the things I said I was going to do with Cody, that I wont come back here and marry you." Taylor holds me a little tighter.
"You don't want to marry me Taylor, you didn't even want to make me your girlfriend." I say wrapping my arms around his neck and standing on my tip toes.
"I thought that was already a given." he laughs a little, "I'm going to miss you Krisa." He whispers leaning his head against mine.
"I'm going to miss you too." I whisper back fighting the tears burning in my eyes. My chest tighten with fear and worry and the thought of losing him breaks my heart just thinking about it.
"Taylor you remember our promise." I say turning my face into his neck, his hot skin brushing against my nose.
"I remember." he rubs one hand up and down my back, while the other holds me against him in a bone crushing embrace as if I'm the one leaving.
"You don't break promises with me Taylor." I state with a shaky voice.
"I know." his voice is a little shaky now too.
"Now boarding flight 367 to A......" Hearing those words echo in the airport make my body stiffen.
"That's me." Taylor saids now for other people to hear. But he doesn't let go of me, I stay completely glued to him as he holds me as other people come up to him and pat him on the back and wish him luck and say different things they will do together once his back.
Taylors best friend Craig comes up and pats him on the back, they laugh about old times and then talk about the future, "Taylor you better make Krisa a happy wife once you get back here, She has been so patient with you." he laughs and pats my head then walks away.
"Geez." Taylor says after a few other people leave.
"What?" I ask, with my face still facing his neck.
"I have really put you through a lot haven't I? almost everyone said I got to come back and make you happy and then how patient you've been with me." He leans his head back against mine.
I laugh a little, "Yeah while 19 years of being by your side is a long time Taylor." I say readjusting my hold around his neck. He some how manages to hold me even closer to him and tighter.
"Yeah it is. I'll be back Krisa, I promise and I promise I wont make your patients go to waste." Taylor says then pulls back and kisses my temple.
He smiles at me again then kisses my cheeks, "See you soon."
I watch him walk to his mom who is crying even harder and his brother who is looking at him with emptiness in his eye's.
With those few more little goodbyes, Taylor goes to his flight.
Leaving us behind to see him walk away.
Maybe for the last time.
Before his mother and brother can see I wipe away the tear that rolls down my cheek.
Taylor knows I hate goodbye, yet he made me say one to him.
The ache in my heart never failed to remind me how much it hurt to see him walk away, to worry if I will see him walk back to me, and the hope that I wont have to attend another funeral.
