As I went through the dense forest I couldn't get rid of the feeling I was being followed, but no matter how many times I turned I never saw anyone. Finally getting fed up with the feeling I threw down my stuff at the base of a tree and climbed. Arriving at one of the higher branches I leaned back and looked down at my stuff trying to sleep.... unsuccessfully. Eventually I gave up and just watched the ground.
Just as I was beginning to drift off, movement caught my eye. looking closer I could just see them. A blonde haired, bronze skinned, drop dead gorgeous girl, in the arms of a sandy blonde haired, tall, tan-ish, boy just at the edge of clearing. The girl was asleep and they guy seemed to be keeping guard. Still, after years with your only "human" company being the Sickly and the Crazed and occasionally a Psychotic who could blame me for going defensive? Needless to say I climbed down and quietly strung my bow. Walking up behind them I could see the only weapon they had was a pocketknife and they had tons of battle scars. Instead of just shooting them I drew back on my bow before saying,
"You know, dude, if you're going to keep guard you kinda have to pay attention to the greatest threat."
in response he stood quickly, grabbed the knife and faced the point of my arrow bravely, pushing the now awake girl behind him. Then, with confidence said
"You're human?"
"Duh."
"Ok, well, um, I'm Jace and this is" then the girl interrupted him
"I'm Riley. Who are you?"
"I'm Willo. How long have you guys been out here?"
"A few months. You?"
"Year or two, I don't know."
"Well, Willo, nice to meet you." With this she turned to Jace and whispered urgently in his ear, he responded,
"I don't know sweets." again she whispered and he said
"Fine, I'll ask her." then he directed his attention to me."Hey um, Willo. I know we'll probably slow you down but I , we, were wondering if, maybe, we could, you know."
"No I don't "
"Well tag along."
"......I don't know, let me think about it."
"Ok." They answered in unison
With that I walked back to my stuff and climbed the tree, putting in another sleepless night...
