I climbed down from my tree, waking the others as I went "Come on. I want to get to the Lab quick."
Riley woke up... eventually, and helped me wake up Jace. As soon as they could stand up straight we were gone. Heading straight towards the Lab.
When we got where we could see the building I stopped to look, making sire so we wouldn't walk straight into a horde. The buildings, or what was left of them, were three stories tall, blockily shaped, and had a off-white popcorn stucco on the walls. Flat roof, hearing and cooling systems that..... "What is that?" I asked
"What?" They said quietly in unison
"Listen." At that we all grew silent.... and sure enough, there it was. The air conditioners were running....
"We need to get out of here. Now Willo." Jace stern. After we'd heard the air conditioners we'd set up camp to debate whether or nor to continue the mission. For the record I thought we should.
"Like I said, they might just had gotten left on during the evac."
"Then how did they make it through the Blackout?"
"Duh. Back up generators." Riley. Me and her were on the sane page, in sure for different reasons but hey. We worked well together when it came to arguing.
"No way."
"Yes way. My dad used to have some."
"And how did that work out?" I answered him with a glare
"That was uncalled for Jace." Riley, soft.
I stood. "Fine, you do whatever you want. It's not like I have to stay and babysit you anyway!" With this I turned towards the Lab and started walking quickly and as soon as I was out of sight I felt like I had become a Quarterback from before the Blackout. Because I got sacked behind the line of scrimmage.
I immediately started throwing punches and kicking, all the while thinking *dang it. Make it this far just to get killed by your temper... nice.* Eventually I realized that the thing I was hitting wasn't screaming but was taking the beating silently... and that was very un-sickly-ish of it. I stopped hitting it, no, him for a second. All I could see was his hair, dark brown, straight, long-ish. But seeing as though he was trying to rip my guts out I figured he was human. He slowly lifted his head and I saw his eyes. At first I thought they were just a funky color of grey, but then I realized that his eyes were swirling with the color blue...... the sickly blue. He takes a deep breath right as I'm about to waylay him again and it brings me up short.
"Stay down. Or they'll see you." He said, his voice slightly raspy.
"Who? Who would see me?"
"Shhh." Then he looks back into my eyes, almost with a look of pleading in his eyes "Help me."
And then he goes slack and I sitting there just trembling.
After taking a few shaky breaths I work my way our from under him, I stay on all fours to heed his warning. Then I slowly work my way back to the temporary camp, dragging him with me.
As soon as Riley sees me she jumps up and down like I brought her chocolate, then she turns to Jace "Told you she would come back!" Triumphant.
"Shhhhh!" I whisper yell. The Riley's eyes widen as she sees the person I'm dragging. She comes over and whispers "What's wrong with him?"
"I don't know, but he asked me to help him and I think he saved my life."
Jace is now standing over us "Looks like he was poisoned."
"How can you tell?" Me, wondering.
"Blanching in his fingers."
"Ooookkkk. Can you help him?"
"Maybe, but he'd have to be awake."
I hesitate slightly, *What if his eyes set then off and they kill him?!?*
"Ok. I'll wake him up. Riley, can you draw some cold water?"
"Yeah sure."She walks off right before Jace
"Ok, ok, ok." I mutter under my breath as I try to think of ways to wake him up... yelling Is out of the option, obviously shaking won't work, I just dragged him ten yards......... I slap his face, hard. He jolts awake, his strange colored eyes dialating.
"Hey."
"Where am I?"
"I'm trying to help you, my friend says you've been poisoned. Is this true?" He shakes his head vigorously in a no.
"Then what?;
"I'm a expirament."
"No way. Humans wouldn't still be doing this, not now."
"Never said they were human...."
This silenced me. *What is going on.?!?!?!?*
"Then tell me how I'm supposed to help you?"
"Stop it."
Stop what?"
"The virus."
