I scrunched my eyebrows together.
"What virus?"
"Help, please. I don't want to be one of them...." He responded, not looking at me.
"Tell me what your talking about." I order. My temper shortening.
"The tests. They won't quit. We have to stop them..."
"Tests?"
"In the lab. They're there. They took us, all of us. And then they started changing us..... I think I'm different. So I got away, you have to stop me from changing!"
"Changing into what?!?"
He looks at me like I'm asking what color is the sky on Monday and shakes his head slowly.
"Into them. Something like the Crazed. But different."
"Different?"
"I just know it took me longer to change than the rest."
"The rest? There were more of you?"
"Ten of us."
I nodded my head, a question forming on my lips as Jace steps back into the clearing, Riley on his heels.
"Hey. He told me he doesn't think he was poisoned."
They didn't respond. They were staring at his eyes.
"Guys. Guys! Look at me." I said forcefully. "He's not one of them, not yet. At least, I don't think so."
"You don't think so!?!" Jace, I can tell he's angry. "I don't give a frack what you think, you're not letting this thing come with us. We should just leave it here."
"NO. You can't leave me here. They'll find me, and then they'll know you're in the area and send one of the others after you."
"Others? You mean there's more?" Riley says before looking around frantically
"They're all in the lab though, probably not for long."
"See, I was right Willow. If we'd gone in it'd been bad."
"Oh? And here you are, yelling your head off Jace. While, not even a hundred yards away is a lab full of unknown killing creatures."
Riley looked back and forth between us. "You are both yelling so stop. We have to decide what to do with... him."
"We can't just leave him here. He's still somewhat human. Maybe we can reverse it."
"Reverse it? Are you crazy? He will become one of them. I say we just kill him now and move on." I looked Jace squarely in the eye and shook my head.
"We're not leaving him here. He's coming with me whether you like it or not." Then I whirled on my heel and walked over to the half-Crazed person.
"Thank you, so much." He says grabbing my fore arm.
"You don't have to thank me, just you trying not the eat me will be thanks enough."
At this he smiled before falling victim to an involuntary tremor. When his body stopped shaking I helped him stand up and saw Riley and Jace arguing quietly.
"So... what's your name? I mean we can't just walk around calling you It."
"My name's Ryker. Yours?"
"Willow. Nice to meet you Ryker."
