- Chance -

It's Monday morning and I decided to skip out on school today. I wasn't ready to face Ethan just yet.

I know what we did. I may have had quite a few drinks that night, but I wasn't completely drunk. I still remember the party and how it went.

During the time of the party, I overheard Ryan talking with Ethan. Drunken words are sober thoughts. That may be true, but I thought I could prove them wrong. It probably wasn't the best way to prove them wrong, but I know what I wanted. I also knew that Ethan wanted it too.

I still haven't told Ethan that I was "sober," enough to remember the night. I know he thinks that I don't remember anything.

I head downstairs to make myself some breakfast. I was hungrier than ever. I started grabbing all kinds of food. It was crazy on what I was eating.

After eating, I decided to spend the rest of my day in bed watching Netflix.

As I get comfortable in bed, I hear my phone go off. I look at it to see I received a text from Ethan. Oh great.

Ethan
- I was hoping to see you at school today. I've really been needing to talk to you. I guess I can wait until you get back though. Call me if you can. Xx

I don't know what built up inside of me to decide to call Ethan right now, but I called him after reading the text.

I sat there nervously as the phone rang. It felt like an eternity just waiting for Ethan to answer.

"Hello?" I faintly hear his voice.

"Uh, um.. hi." I finally say.

"Hey, Chance, it's great to hear your voice." I imagined the faint smile that was on Ethan's face after saying that. This boy definitely had a way with his words at times.

I blush, happy that he couldn't see it happening, "Yours too. So, um, why did you want me to call you?"

"I, um," Ethan starts, "I just wanted to call and see if you were still mad at me or something."

I shake my head, then realizing Ethan couldn't see me, "No, I'm not mad at you. I think the party really helped me out with getting over being mad at you." Oh gosh, why did I say that?

"The party?" Ethan questions immediately.

I had to find a way to play it off, "Yeah, the party! Being surrounded by people and getting a bit of alcohol into my system really helped. I think I just needed an escape, you get me?"

"I totally understand. I know I was a jerk for thinking it wouldn't hurt you if I was with Mary. I really am sorry for that." Ethan apologizes.

I smile, "It's okay. I know I'm confusing and can send off mixed signals at times."

"Chance," Ethan faintly says.

"Yeah?" I answer, my heart kind of racing.

"Would it be alright if I came over after school today? I really need to show you something, and kind of ask you something." Ethan says.

Ask me something! My heart began to race again. What did Ethan want to ask me?

I nod my head, "Yeah, it's fine if you do. But, don't you have football practice today?"

"No, coach gave us the day off. Not sure why, but he did." Ethan explains.

"Alright, well, I'll see you later then. Bye Ethan." I say.

"Bye baby." Ethan says then hangs up the phone.

Baby. Even if we aren't together and are barely getting on good terms again, this boy always knew how to leave me smiling.
