The clock read 5 AM, and the dark sky outside began its gentle transition into a deep sapphire blue, tinted with hints of purple along the horizon. Inside the cosy living room, the soft glow of the TV flickered, casting warm shadows on the walls as an episode of Love Is Blind played in the background. You found yourself wearing a well-worn, soft t-shirt, handed by Eren a touch of him lingering in the fibres. Eventually, you both sank into the plush couch, the cushions moulding to your bodies, and without realising it, you drifted off to sleep, lulled by the soft conversations of the show and the quiet companionship that filled the room.
You were nestled in his arms, your face gently resting in the crook of his neck as he rested his chin on top of your head. A single throw wrapped around both of you, barely large enough to cover your bodies, but being cuddled in his embrace provided enough warmth for him.
As intimate and reassuring as this was, your dreams didn't represent this moment. You found yourself losing him, the very ground beneath your feet disintegrating as he faded away, leaving only the haunting echoes of his promises to always be by your side. This sparked a relentless ache in your heart, a deep-rooted fear of losing the one you held most dear.
You couldn't help but cry at the realisation that you had no one. No one to tell you everything was going to be okay. No one has been by your side.
"Y/N,"
You could hear Eren's voice, but you still thought that you were dreaming.
"Y/N,"
Eren shook your shoulders lightly, and you slowly opened your eyes.
"Why are you crying?" He whispered.
Your soft sniffles and gentle sighs woke the man next to you. Your cheeks felt wet, and they started to feel cold from the air.
"Because I can't shake this feeling off my heart. Like this never-ending doom," you were only able to crack a whisper. The dread made you sick; it turned you weak. You wiped your blurry eyes.
"I can't see you," you whisper.
"Baby, I'm right here."
"I don't want to lose you,"
"You're never going to lose me,"
He gently reassured you, his warm thumb gliding across your cheek to wipe away the tears that cascaded down. As your fingers curled around his wrist, seeking comfort, Eren pulled you closer, drawing you away from the edge of the couch. His soft, steady touch continued to brush away your tears.
"Whatever it is, I won't let you go through it on your own. I'll always protect you, I promise," he uttered, kissing your forehead.
Suddenly, everything clicks; the scattered fragments of his words and the nuances of his behaviour come into place. It's as if your life flashes before your eyes, each memory vivid and electric. You can see the expressions on his face, the way his eyes sparkled or darkened, and the hints of his true intentions. In that moment, the weight of realisation settles heavily upon you, awakening feelings you didn't know you had buried deep within.
