Bex's POV:

"Cammie! Go! Run!" I yelled through my ear piece.

I was hiding behind a tree next to the road, keeping watch in case Operation A goes wrong. Cammie was in the middle of a huge plain with only a tall chain link fence separating us. This was no Cover Ops mission however, this was real. What is our mission? That's classified information that needs level 5 clearance to be obtained.

"Bex, chill. I've got this," Cammie responded calmly, "I'm only twenty feet from the building."  I watched as she took off running and ducked behind a few barrels that laid forgotten on the ground.

Once it was clear, she rushed to a another barrel before stopping again. That's when I saw three helicopters flying  over the plain. The first one stopped, hovering over Cammie's hiding spot as the other two took position: one near the building we're suppose to infiltrate and the other closer to where I am, near the road.

"Cammie! Go! Run! Now!"

But she didn't move. That's when I heard the static in my ear piece. I took it out and threw it onto the ground, crushing it on the pavement.

The helicopters must be using something to jam the signal.

Without a second thought I rushed to Cammie's aid, climbing the fence before sprinting across the field to where Cammie stood oblivious to the man creeping up behind her. The man had come from the helicopter above, taking a rope and sliding down it to land a yard or two away from where Cammie was hiding.

"Cammie!" I scream again as the man lunges for her.

She spins and side steps out of his reach.  I continue running towards her, but before I can reach her I feel something hit the back of my leg and I go down hard. Black spots dance in my vision before it becomes all I can see. The last thing I feel is arms wrapping around me before I'm lost to the darkness.

Cammie's POV:

"Bex!" I screamed, accidentally giving away my cover.

The guy who previously lunged for me pulls himself off the ground. He lunges at me again, this time grabbing my arm. But I know this move and I know how to counter it. I step back and grab the arm grasping mine before using his momentum against him and flip him over my shoulder. He hits the ground and I take off, running to where Bex fell. I reach her and scoop her into my arms before examining her.

Tranquilizer dart to the back of the leg. Must be strong to cause unconsciousness.

I continue to check Bex over before realizing that the tranquilizer didn't cause her to pass out.

Concussion

I only get a moment to process that Bex is injured before I feel something hit me. I reach back and feel something protruding from the back of my neck.

A tranquilizer dart

I fall backwards, releasing my grip on Bex. A man comes into my line of sight and I watch as he grabs Bex from my lap before throwing her over his shoulder in a fireman's carry. Before he leaves he smiles down at me as says something I can't quite hear. He walks off with Bex as I lay there teetering on the edge of consciousness, unable to do anything to save my best friend.

"Cammie!" I hear someone yell from in front of me. Liz is by my side of a matter of minutes followed by a rescued Zachary Goode. "What happened?"

"They took Bex," I whisper, my vision wavering in front of me. "Tranquilizer dart to the neck." I glance down to my hand still holding the dart. Zach takes it from me before handing it over to Liz to examine.

"We have to get her back." I say as my eyes start to close.

"We will Cammie, we'll get Bex back."

That's the last thing I hear before I know no more.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I hear voices around me as I slowly emerge back to consciousness.

".... can't let them go, it's too risky."

"You know they'll go anyways, Joe."

"We could alwa-"

"We're not locking them away until we find her!"

I open my eyes to find myself laying in a hospital bed.

The "Nurse's office" my mind provides.

In the doorway stood my mother and my professor, Joe Solomon.

They're arguing..... about Bex...... she's gone.....

I watch as my mother glances over at me before coming to my side.

"Hey, sweetie, how are you feeling?" she ask as she runs her hand through my hair. Something not a headmistress but a mother would do.

"Bex," I mutter, turning to face my mother. Her smile falters as I meet her eyes. "We have to find her and rescue her."

"I know sweetheart," my mother cooes. "We will, Joe and I are already getting packed to head ou-"

"No."

"What?" She asks as she steps back.

"No. I'm going to find her, with Liz, Macey, and Zach"

"Cammie, you can't-" Professor Solomon tries to speak but I won't let him.

"You can't stop us, you said it yourself." This gives both my mother and Solomon pause as they glance at one another before looking back at me.

"Alright," my mother sighs. " The four of you have to leave her by six sharp tomorrow morning. I'll pack your bag while you get some rest."

As my mother leaves she bends down to kiss my forehead and turns off the light as she walks out. Mr. Solomon closes the door behind the two of them and I slip back into unconscious with a small smile on my face.
