gabby »it's been two weeks since the waterpark. two weeks since ive talked to hayes. today was the first day of school, first practice too. i wore black leggings with a black and grey cheetah top, complimented by a jean jacket and white scarf. the jacket made it look so casual, i liked it. after curling my hair and putting on some mascara, i walked down stairs. jasper sat at the table, as mom and dad talked about their first days of highschool and how jasper and i were growing up, when i revealed myself, jasper shot up. "gab! let's go." my mother laughed. "we haven't taken pictures yet." jasper sighed and walked back into the house.
after 20 minutes of pictures, jasper finally got us out. i laughed as we slid in his car and he drove us to school. it was my little brother's first day of school, my first day of highschool, and jasper's first day as a senior. it was a very- emotional day for my parents.
jasper and i walked into the school, he led me to the office and said goodbye. "name?" the secretary asked, sweetly. "gabriella cullins." i smiled. "oh! you're the new quarterback! my son plays on your team, he says you're good?" she reached for some papers. "eh." i shrugged, and giggled. "well, you're the first girl to be on our highschool football team. all the teachers are talking about it. we're all looking forward to the game, friday night." she handed me some papers and i smiled, "i am too."
i followed the papers to my locker. i saw some guys from the team, they all greeted me. i unlocked the locker and stuffed my football bag into it. i sighed. the locker beside me opened and i jumped. "oh, sorry. haha, im shawn." (a/n: i know, shawn is from canada, but it's a fanfic so hush.)
"gabby," i laughed. "i know, you're on the football team, everyone's talking about you. especially hayes and you," he shut his locker and looked at me. "there is no hayes and me, just friends." i sighed. "ah.." he nodded. "what's your first hour?" he asked. "math with mr. trovia," i read. "great, that's close to mine, walk with?" i smiled and followed beside him.
people stared and smiled as we walked down the halls. "even the seniors are talking about you." shawn said, "that's good, right?" he nodded. "yeah, just... avoid taylor caniff," (a/n: lmao i love myself) i nodded. "who is he?" he laughed. "just the biggest fuckboy you'll ever meet. he's been talking about you too," i eyed him. "what are you? the ears of the school?" he laughed. "pretty much. well, this is it. maybe we can eat lunch together?" he asked. "yeah, but i need to look for my friends, so ill find you." i laughed. he nodded. "see you around, running back." he smiled and walked off. i walked in the classroom, once again, eyes on me. some people smiled. some just stared, what the hell?
"you must be gabriella! welcome." a man said. "hi." i said simply. "your seat is here." he pointed to an empty desk. "okay." "ive heard good things about you, i hope they're true." he smiled before returning to the front of the class. "i'm maxxie." a girl beside me shook my hand. id seen her around 8th grade, but she had longer hair and didn't wear makeup. "im gabby. do you know why everyone's staring at me?" i scratched my neck awkwardly. "uh. you're the hottest girl in the school, plus you play football. you're the talk of the school. all good things of course. you're a perfect freshman who plays sports that involves running in tight pants. the guys obsess over you." she said. "and rumor has it, hayes grier is into you, so all the girls'll give you some glares too." she laughed. "thanks." i said simply. that explains it, well enough.
when lunch time came, i already found my two best friends rose and hogan. we walked to lunch together, i totally forgot to look for shawn, so we just walked to an empty table and talked. i broke my phone at the beginning of the summer and just got a new one. and hogan was on vacation so we hadn't hung out in forever.
"i hear you're on the football team, i didn't know you were serious about it." rose giggled. i shrugged. we all compared schedules, realizing we had the last three hours together, cool. hogan started talking about how she has a huge crush on hayes, i just kept my mouth shut about us.
after lunch hogan had to go to her locker, so rose and i walked to class together. "why didn't you tell hogan about you and hayes?" she kind of whispered. "i didn't want to hurt her." i said, when i got my phone back, i told rose about hayes, she's the only person ive told. "okay, well. she's going to find out soon. you should be the one to tell her." she shrugged. "whatever, i have time. i haven't even seen him today." just then, i saw him. standing by his locker, flirting with girls. half the football team was behind him, follow the leader much? "never mind."
when hayes saw me, he pushed through the girls and walked beside me. i sighed. "why have you been ignoring me? i said sorry. i thought you forgave me." he was now walking with us. rose remained quiet. "because, hayes. it's just like middle school. you don't settle down with one girl. and i already told you i can't date you." he sighed. "i know-" i cut him off, "ill see you at practice." luckily, my class was right there, rose and i walked in.
"good job." she smiled. "ha, thanks." i sighed.
