"keep it dry miss Saphrine" the nurse smiled at me and turned to pick the scattered bandages from the mayo stand.
I got down from the stool and went out from the hospital room to my waiting friend.
As I went out, I saw her laughing with the new boy at which I smiled. She always was the social one, always wanted to be date etc.
If I looked back now, it was weird how we became friends. We were poles apart,her being the social butterfly and me being the silent snail.
"All fixed?" She asked as I walked down to her car.
"Yup.." I said and opened the car door.
"You should take care of it really... I mean since I won't be here for sometime..' she started, looking at me through the mirror.
"What do you mean?" I asked her.
"Got to grow now lady bug, can't babysit you anymore" she smirked at me and jokingly looked at Mathew.
"Zip it turtle" I smirked back evilly.
"Ugh that's name-" she scrunched her nose.
"No but really..where are you going now?? Do your parents know?" I questioned.
"We will be back before anyone knows" mathew chirped.
"Wow ... So my bff is going somewhere with a stranger she just met and doesn't care to tell me..." I accused.
"Don't put it like that." She started the engine.
"Am no stranger!" Mathew said,his eyes as big as an offended bull.
"Umm ..dude I know she likes you and all but plzz just don't come between us right now." I shut him up and looked at my friend who was now trying to kil me with her eyes.
"Saphrine we need to talk" she said and turned off her engine.
"Yes thanks" I got out and went with her to the nearby tree,away from the new boy.
"What is wrong with you!" She screamed.
"Me?? What's around with you?? Going alone with some you just met this morning.!" I shouted.
"I know him since one week!"she reasons.
"You STALK him since one week." I corrected her.
"It's not the first time though and you know it" she folded her arms and looked at me pointedly.
"And.. I would have known him better if you had not creeped out and started screaming about some girl on fire!" She exclaimed and started pacing here and there.
Hearing her I was shocked
I thought no one heard me screaming about that coz no one asked anything but here she was knowing everything.
"Girl ..what girl? I don't kn-" I tried to lie.
"Shut it! I know whatever happened has effected you a lot and I know you have been hiding in your house because of that" she tried to sooth me but I backed away.
"That's just shock... No need to be worried" I turned aways from her.
"You can share anything with me you know lady bug, I know you are not okay" she came to face me and smiled.
"I am fine! There's nothing I need to share..." I smiled back, clearly lying and she knew it but chose not to press further.
"Okay ..since you are alright so there's nothing to worry about then now is it?" She said and shrugged.
"Yeah" I said quietly.
"I am going with him then, since you are fine." She turned to go.
"Emma!" I called her.
She stopped to look back.
"I don't trust anyone right now, look at the Town's safety! there's a murderer on loose!!! What if he is one? Like what if he hurts you. You need to stay here" I tried to change her mind.
"Come one Emma! I will be fine plus Mathew here is no ordinary name. He is the heir to that shipping business we worked in last year." She broke it down.
"But..." I was worried for her, how can she just go with him.
"Loom Saph, I will be fine and if something does happen I will text you the address. We are going to the Mani island. There's a party. Plus I have my self defense kit.
Now let's drop you home if you are satisfied"
She won't listen now, that's what I was sure off.
"Promise me you will text the moment you get there and then i will call you" I grabbed her hand.
"Fine promise" she laughed.
"Now come-on let's go to your house" she urged but I didn't wanna go
"I will walk home, want to feel the breeze." I smiled at her and she nodded understanding.
"Take care!" She said and I nodded at her.
I watched her sit in the car and if she went towards her way.
As I stepped towards the exit gate, an ambulance rushed in.
The horns blaring, and then the back doors to it opened in rush. Two first responders got the stretcher down which was covered in white sheet.
"Get the body inside before press arrives!" The doctor yelled.
And that was my que to go but suddenly
"Hey ! Girl!" Someone yelled at me.
"Who me??" I asked.
"Yes!! Will you help with main doors,we don't have time" the ward boy asked.
"Okay" I shrugged and went on.
I held the door as they pulled the stretcher through the doors.
I watched as they got the body in but just as I turned to get out of the way the man carrying the body bag at front slipped and all of a sudden the sheet covering the body moved a little, showing me the face I dreaded seeing.
"Ahh!!!!" I couldn't stop myself .
She scared me, how much her face got messed up. I saw her before her death in a painful condition but at least this was not what she looked like then.
This was just pure horror.
"Shitt! Cover her face, get her out of there" the doctor screams.
"Mam, plz no need to be scared it's okay." The nurse rushed in to sooth me.
"It's just a human body..." she would look at me and then towards the stretcher that was now going away from us.
"Yeah.." I contained myself.
"It's horrifying you know, I know you got scared but that's not even the half she must have felt when dying." The nurse seemed distant,rather heart broken at the girls condition.
"What happened to her" I asked trying to know what they found.
"I can't tell you that here but let's change the bandage on your hand it's all torn" she pointed and right she was, it was all muddy.
"The post mortem reports said she was tortured and starved," the nurse Katherine said as she unwrapped my bandage.
"Woah that's an ugly burn!_ she exclaimed and started cleaning it all over.
"Did anyone see anything?" I asked, praying that no one did, fearing for my life.
"No but-" she said
"But?"I cut her off.
She looked up at me from the wound.
"There was some foot prints that went towards the jungle." She said and moved her hand all over.
"But it can be of anyone!" I said more loudly.
"Yes same they thought,them officers."
"If you ask me I think someone was there, how can it be so back of the main crime scene, it nearly looked as if someone hid there." She said and I just looked in the space blankly.
What if they caught me? A mere old nurse thinks this much of that foot prints.
What were those officers thinking and importantly what were those murders gonna think the minute they get a whif of this.
"Is it done?" I asked her hurriedly not wanting to be with her anymore.
"Yes there you go dear!" She smiled warmly.
"Thankyouuuu" I genuinely smiled back but stopped when she called my name.
"You can come to me any time,I will give you latest tea on the case and in return a good friend is all I need" she said, smiling ear to ear.
"Alright" I said and walked back home.
Today was no daily day. It was something my life was going to be like for sometime that's what I was sure of.
