There has never been a prettier sunrise falling upon Lydian's eyes in forever.
A quiet morning, an emotional one.
Because whenever someone would step foot outside of their house they, they ask the first person they lock eyes with if they got any news from the palace.
Nothing was confirmed to them. Not yet.
The gate remained closed and most of the guards went back into their positions as if nothing happened.
It was not about remaining loyal to a dead king but more about trying to do what was agreed by the majority.
And since all of the knights followed Elmer, everyone else had to do the same.
The maids were already cleaning the throne room.
The workers repairing the burnt space, the Gardener watering the red roses.
The cooks making breakfast.
Everything in the palace seemed to be going as usual but every little thing was an order from their new king.
Elmer went out of his way to wipe out any confusion his people had and it seemed to be working.
It was scary to live with Leo's death, some people did not let go of all the horrible experiences they had with him around.
It felt like he could come back at any moment and make their lives worse if they ever decide to follow someone else.
But since Ezra and Theon followed Elmer all the other knights had to.
Since Clair and Violet felt safe around him, all of the captured girls had to feel the same.
Since the trainees and guards obied his orders without a second thoughts, there was no doubt left in anyone's eyes.
The maids were terrified by the amount of blood in the hallways before getting a chance to take a look at the throne room where everything happened.
The moment they kneeled down, they could not move as if fear was everything they knew.
Getting themselves from Leo's mercy to yet another prince's one.
For those souls who lost faith in the royal family, those who never got the chance to know Elmer, it was pretty scary.
"Prince Elmer"
Betty smiled through her teary eyes, standing in disbelief.
She could not remember the last time she was able to see Elmer, that year went by in a weird way.
Sometimes days felt so slow like there would be no end of it.
Other times they went by fasters.
But she could see the growth in his eyes, the hurting and the shining parts all of him.
"Betty"
Elmer smiled back while walking towards her.
The way he made himself look like he was not scratched at all, the royal walk and manner did almost take the best of him but he had to look a certain way in front of his people.
She did not need to see the crown, she knew she was standing in front of a young king.
"Your majesty"
Betty corrected herself while bowing down.
The moment he hugged her shoulders, bringing her in closer, She knew that he made it and managed to come back alive at a costey price.
