"So what's gonna happen to Callie?" Jude asked as he stabbed his steak with his fork.
"Well Shes gonna be in there for a few weeks but she'll be home soon." Lena smiled. "But..." Lena started her voice sounding in doubt.
All the kids eyes looked to her.
"But what?" Brandon replied back instantly.
Out of all of them Brandon was the most worried. Jude was terrified at first but after realising she was ok and she was going to be ok, he settled down.
Unlike Brandon. Since he first saw Callie in hospital he had spoken. He was constantly worried. He hadn't slept for two days. His eyes were dark and his hair was messy.
"Stef has work tomorrow and I can't look after Callie so we have to give her a day to herself."
"I can go look after her. I mean, I can miss one day of school."
"No Mariana. We'll, we'll work something out. And besides Daphne said she'll be there around 1."
"But she'll be alone for like...six hours." Mariana protested and raising her voice.
"I understand Mariana. It's not fair, I get it. But-"
"What about me?" Brandon interrupted. Everyone's eyes shot to him. "We're in the same year we can study together. She needs to get caught up with school. A few days won't matter."
"Yeah. I'm pretty sure after being shot she wants to study."
Brandon sighed.
"Come on mom. She needs company." He said.
"I'll think about it." She said spooning mash potato into her mouth.
"Ok" he whispered looking down at the plate.

Brandon sat on the staircase that night and listened to his mom talk to his mom on the phone. He listened to her speak and agree and the final decision was that at 7 he was going to drive to the hospital and spend 6 hours with her until Daphne came and Brandon was going to go back to finish school.

Brandon had gotten to the hospital about an hour after Stef had left.
He remembered the room she was in so he didn't go to ask a nurse or the reception.
The hospital was pretty empty when he got there. There were a few people sitting in the waiting room and a man wearing his work clothes complaining about his arm. It had just past seven in the morning.
He opened the door to her room and snuck in. Callie was still asleep but he sat down in the seat next to the window and tried not to wake her.
He sat facing the window looking out over, what Mariana had described as dirt, and watched it.
The sun had just risen and the sky was a light grey with large clouds.
He didn't know what it was but for some reason he was compelled to look over at Callie.
It was weird. Him being there for her. But just being around her filled him with light.
Slowly but carefully he turned his head around and looked at Callie sleeping in her bed.
He bit his bottom lip then stood up and made his way over to her.
He set himself down in the seat beside the bed.
He could hear her slow breaths and her symbol of life stand out. He couldn't help but smile.
He looked away and then pulled a magazine from the small table.
He heard movement from the bed and when he turned to look at her, he could see her weary eyes flicker open.
When she saw him she gave him a confused look then set her head back on the pillow and closed her eyes again.
"What are you doing here?" She mumbled in a morning tone.
"Moms had to work but you're stuck with me till lunch." He replied back with a small friendly smile.
"Why you?" She mumbled again. Her voice a bit louder and awake now.
"I volunteered." He replied back as he stared at a cake recipe in his magazine.
Her eyes opened again and she licked the inside of her lip.
As she tried to sit up she let out a groan.
Brandon quickly stood up and grabbed her elbows as she gripped just under his biceps.
"Easy Callie." He said softly as she fell back on to the bed.
"I can just lay here all day long. It's not like there's much else to do." She smiled as she wiped sleep from her eyes.
Brandon's eyes shifted to a remote control dangling from the bed. He grabbed it and studies it.
"I think you use this." He said.
He clicked a button and the bed began to rise. "This goes up....and this goes down." He said as he clicked another button and the bed began to lower.
He clicked the button again and the bed began to rise.
"Brandon, really?" She said looking across to him.
He giggled a little as he clicked the stop button. "Done. You're welcome."
Callie smiled.
She was now sitting up in her bed and the blankets pulled down to her waist revealing her hospital gown.
He looked away aching at the sight of her being hurt.
There was an awkward silence and then Brandon spoke again
"I brought you something." He said as he pulled as guitar case from his side and pulled out a guitar.
"No way." She giggled.
"Yeah, it's pretty hard sneaking a guitar into a hospital." He laughed softly.
"Play me something." She said as she looked at him again.
By now Brandon held the guitar across his lap and was Tuning the strings.
"Like what?" He asked as he strummed at it.
"Uh, I don't know. Written any songs lately?"
"No, not really." He strummed again.
She yawned.
The door opened and a kind looking lady walked in with a food tray and a dish in it.
"Here you are Hun." She said sliding it next to her. "Enjoy." She looked at Brandon then back to Callie and smiled suspiciously.
"You know he's the right guy when he visits you in hospital. Am I right? Hun." She winked.
The room fell silent again. More awkward than ever. Some random nurse just suspected Callie and Brandon of being boyfriend and girlfriend. Yeah. It was pretty awkward.
Callie's mouth fell open slightly and Brandon did that confused pout he does.
She ignored it and lifted the lid off her meal.
"Eww." She mumbled.
"What is that?" Brandon asked with a disgusted look on his face.
"It's like porridge or something."
He smirked. "You know normally when you don't know what it is you shouldn't eat it."
She laughed. "Yeah."
"Do you want me to get you some actual food? Coffee? Cereal? Mars bar?"
"Uh, yes please." She replied.
He slapped his knees gently and stood up.
"I'll be right back."
