Chapter Four- Something Real

I'm lost, Faye concluded as she wandered the House in search for the grand hall. Though the outside of the building may not have looked like much, there were multiple stories that had been built underground. A little after Chris had left her in her room, Ace had informed Faye there was a Fight Night beginning in an hour. Why he wanted her to show up to this was strange, but Faye wouldn't want someone taking an interest in the better things she had to do than watch ranks fight.

Fight Nights were just werewolf ways of proving their strength, anyone could be challenged, and the winner would take the loser's position if he was a level higher in the pack. It's a violent way of finding more suitable ranks for the packs.

Knowing full well Faye had no chance of finding this 'grand hall' on her own, she ducked into a room where she heard whispering voices. As Faye gently opened the thick wooden doors, she glanced around and noticed she had entered an oversized library. Faye stepped in, catching the attention of two younger girls that seemed to be dusting and gossiping. One was standing on a rolling ladder while the other held it in place, their faces showing they were no more than fifty-six years of age. Which would be eight in human.

"I'm looking for the grand hall..." Faye trailed off, taking note of the shocked expressions on their faces. They were obviously servant girls, but even in the presence of an alpha, they shouldn't have been too speechless. "Is everything okay?"

The girl holding the ladder quickly stood up straight, letting go of the ladder to place her hands professionally behind her back. "I can show you to the grand hall," Her small voice replied wearily.

Faye gave a minuscule smile, trying to figure out why they were so on edge. The girl walked cautiously to her side, then slowly, but very carefully walking passed her. Faye threw up her hands, "What is going on!?" She maybe asked a bit too loud. The girl now in front of Faye hit the ground, shielding her face as if Faye would hit her. Yet before Faye could go to help her up, the girl on the ladder screamed.

Faye quickly turned to find that the ladder had fallen to the ground, however the girl was still hanging on the bookcase, about ten feet off the ground. Faye ran towards her, lifting her hands in assurance that she would catch her. "Let go!" Faye beckoned, but the girl shook her head, small tears falling from her cheeks.

"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to," The girl sobbed, why was she apologizing? Just as Faye was about to try and calm her down, the bookcase began to lean forward. Though she was indeed a small girl, the weight of any werewolf was twice the average since her additional muscles had already started developing.

The girl realized what was happening, she slipped off, forgetting for a moment why she had been holding on. Faye caught her in her arms, turning her back towards the bookcase that was already inches from collapsing down on them. Faye’s eyes shut knowing that she couldn't escape the inevitable pain coming next.

Chris heard a clamorous crash and bolted into the nearby room unsure of what had just happened. As he rushed in, Chris noticed the bookcase had fallen, and a small servant girl crying out. "What's going on?" He asked, bending down to look the girl in the eyes, then glancing towards the fallen bookcase.

"She's under there! Rosie's under there!" The girl pointed to the mess, and Chris sprung into action, lifting the heavy bookcase up off the ground and setting it back to it's standing position. He looked back at where the bookcase once lay and stepped back when he saw her.

"Are you alright?" Her voice cracked, the pain obvious, but she unwrapped her arms from Rosie, giving her a look over.

Rosie wiped away her tears with her shirt sleeve and she sniffled. She then ran to the other servant girl who embraced her, leaving Faye without a reply. They cried, this time thankful.
