_〆(。。) CHAPTER FOUR

"WHAT?" I scrambled back away from Sasha. "You have certifiably lost your mind. No one can time travel."

Sasha looked hurt. "Look, you got to believe me! Do you have any other explanation? Look where we're at!" Tears slipped down her cheeks.

She was right. The streets were unusually quiet, but this was obviously a crowded city. Where are all the people?

"Then where are we?"

"I don't know." Sasha wiped a tear off her face, smearing the ruined mascara.

I sighed. I could never stay mad at Sasha, even if the problem was as outrageous like this. Time travel?! You have got to be kidding me.

"I need proof of where we are, and if you can time travel, right now."

Sasha sighed. "Fine, come on."

She led me through a maze of dark alleyways, all uninhabited.

"Do you know where we're going?"

"Nope."

"Oh." I was distraught inside. What would happen to my family. Will they call the police? Realize that I have disappeared from the face of the planet?

Finally Sasha stopped short. Little streams of light peeked through into the dark street, but the silence still lingered. I soon found out why by stepping out into the lit streets of Manhattan.

Everything was stuck in time. Nothing moved. Not even the hands of clocks.

"It happens all the time. Don't worry, it only lasts for a bit. Things will return back to normal."

I gaped at Sasha. How can she not be surprised?! Time freaking STOPPED.

"Here, come on. I have something to show you." Sasha pointed at a newspaper stand.

No way.

I stared at the date on the newspapers.

August 27, 1993.

"Here we go." Sasha pointed at a small, dark alleyway. "Bedtime. Shall I tuck you in?"

I rolled my eyes as I walked into the little corner. "In your dreams."

As we settled down, questions bubbled ip in my head. I started with the one that mattered the most to me.

"How are we going back? And when?"

Sasha frowned. "I have no idea. For all I know, the experience is completely random."

"What?! How are we going back then?" I put my head in my hands. I would do anything to take back my life, even if it meant every day was a Sunday.

Wait, that wouldn't be that bad.

But this was a million times worse than a Sunday. We had no clue when we could go back. We might never go back.

"Does time still go by while we're here in present time?"

"Nope. At least I don't think so."

"Does anyone else you know have this ability?"

Sasha knit her eyebrows. "There is a chance. But how would the human race not have found out by now?"

"I guess we'll find out. And we're going back someday right? So maybe it won't be as bad as we think."

Maybe, just maybe, we have a chance. We'll go back.

We have to.
***

I opened my bleary eyes to the bright morning sun. My bones were stiff, and I was in a highly uncomfortable position, perched against a hard brick wall. Sasha slept next to me, her hair mussed and tangled. I winced as I stood up and turned to be greeted, yet again, with a face.

It was a girl, around our age, who had sleek blonde hair and hazel eyes. Something about her was so familiar, but I couldn't place my finger on exactly what. She, on the other hand, was bewildered and tense.

She pointed at me. "Who are you?"
