It's been four days since I last saw him. Four days! After dinner on Saturday he just disappeared, without even saying goodbye. Is he always like that or did that fight with his dad really affect him?
However, it doesn't make much sense that he's upset with his dad because Trisha told me yesterday that Yaser went on a business trip this week, and Zayn was going with him. That's why he hasn't come to class these past two days and today.
I'm slightly mad at Zayn. I mean, I understand that he was upset last Saturday for whatever happened and didn't want to talk during dinner, but he could, at least, have said goodbye if he was going on a trip. After what happened in his room, I don't know, I didn't have expected him to be so... closed. He didn't even look at me when he came from talking to his dad.
Suddenly, I hear the teacher dismissing us and I gather my things and make my way out of marketing class. I didn't even notice the class begun, fuck.
"Excuse me!" I hear loud footsteps coming from behind and then, I feel a hand on my shoulder. I turn around and see a guy standing in front of me. He has blond curly hair and a pair of beautiful blue eyes. He's wearing a green t-shirt and blue jeans.
"Hey- uh you dropped this in the hall." He says handing me my red notebook that I didn't even notice I was missing. I take it from his hand and smile.
"God, I didn't even notice. Thank you hmm-." I say, waiting for him to tell me his name. He smiles widely, showing his perfect white teeth and his dimples. He has freckles all over his cheeks, which make his smile adorable.
"I'm Bret." He introduces himself shyly. He's not English, I can tell. His accent sounds more American.
"Well, thanks Bret. I'm Beth." I say smiling.
"Yeah, I know." He answers, an amused expression on his face.
"Oh... you do?" I ask.
How the hell does he know my name?
He seems to sense my confusion and chuckles.
"I'm in marketing class too, I sit behind you, but you probably haven't noticed me cause you're always so into the class." He says and I laugh awkwardly.
Ha, if only he knew where my mind was today... Yeah, not so into the class.
"Hey, um do you want to grab some coffee, I mean, if you don't have any plans or classes now..." He asks with a hopeful smile.
I think about it for a moment. Marketing was my last class and I haven't got any plans with anybody, but I don't know. Bret seems like a very nice guy, but I can't help but think what Zayn would say if he saw us.
Then, I realise that, what the hell? Zayn and I are nothing, but friends, maybe? It's true that I may feel attracted to him and that I enjoyed the kiss, but it's not like I can't hang out with other guys. Hell, even if he was my husband he couldn't tell me who not to hang out with.
Suddenly, I feel a pinch of anger in my stomach. I'm not angry at Zayn, but at myself for thinking that way. No man is going to control my mind like this, not even unintentionally, like Zayn has clouded my thoughts.
I look at Bret and smile sweetly.
"Yeah, I'm free. Let's go." I say and we make our way outside the building.
"So, Bret... Where are you from?" I start the conversation.
"California, but I moved here for college two years ago."
"California? That is so cool! I've always wanted to go there!" I say as we enter the coffee shop.
"Yeah, the weather is great and the beach is sick, but I had always wanted to come to Europe so... here I am." He laughs and I join.
"At first, I didn't cope well with the cold, but after two years of living in Bradford you get used to it." He adds after we order our coffees and head to an empty table.
"You've been two years here already? How old are you?" I ask.
"I'm twenty one, but I changed my major last year. What about you?"
What is with everybody changing their majors? I've always had it clear that I'd be a lawyer.
"I'm nineteen, it's my first year in Bradford, so I didn't have time to change my major yet." He laughs.
Like my dad would let me do that. No, don't think so.
"You're not from here either?" He asks.
"No, I'm Spanish." I say taking a sip from my coffee.
"Yeah? I speak Spanish, well a bit." He says and I laugh.
"So, what are you studying?" He asks.
"Law." I say looking down at the coffee.
"Wow, a medal for the enthusiasm, yeah?!" He laughs and I snort. "Maybe you will change your major too. But, Beth want some advice?" He says and I look up at his blue eyes. "Don't wait two years."
The thing was that I never thought about what I really liked, or if a lawyer was what I really wanted to be. I just thought that I'd follow my dad's steps and I know for sure that he would go crazy if I told him I changed my mind.
I decide forget about it and I change the attention back to him.
"What about you, what are you studying?"
"Well, I entered college with a sports scholarship, but last year I discovered my true vocation. I'm studying to be an actor." He says and I notice the way his face lights up with excitement.
"Wow, that is so awesome! Maybe someday you'll reach Hollywood, yeah?" I say.
"Yeah, maybe." He laughs. "But I'm doing marketing also, in case it goes wrong."
"What about your sports scholarship?" I ask.
"Oh, I lost it when I changed, but I still play in the college team."
"What do you play?"
"Football." He says.
"Oh, are you any good?" I ask and then shake my head in realisation. "Never mind."
For fuck's sake Beth he had a scholarship.
He nods and laughs and I join again.
"Maybe you could be the judge of that. You could come watch a match if you want." He says taking a sip from his cup.
"Yeah, that'd be cool." I say. "Just let me know when you play." He nods.
Then I look up at him and burst out laughing when I see his face.
"What?" He asks.
"You have a milk moustache." I say laughing harder and handing him a napkin.
"Oh!" He laughs too. "And why all the laughing? You don't think I'm hot with a moustache?" He asks jokingly while I continue laughing.
"Um, no. I think the word you're looking for is ridiculous." I say and he brings a hand over his heart and gasps, faking an offended expression.
We both still laughing till I hear my name being called from behind.
"Beth!"
