"The life of the dead is placed in the memory of the living."
~Marcus Tullius CiceroChandler grabbed a black tie from his closet and he put on his black coat. "He was so young, it's not fair it's just not fair! He can't be dead!" Chandler said as he sat on the bed and began to cry.
"Hey, don't cry, it'll be ok," Kinsey said rubbing his back trying to comfort him.
"No one will ever know how he actually died! Not even his family!" Chandler said.
"I know, but no one can ever know the truth," Camella said.
"They deserve answers Camella! They deserve them!" Chandler pleaded.
"Come on, get up," Kinsey said helping Chandler up. Kinsey was wearing a black dress with little ruffles at the bottom and black high heels and she curled her dirty blonde hair, she also had on a silver necklace. Camella wore a silk black dress that came to the knees, she had on black Sandel high heels, she had a little black jacket that covered her shoulders and she had her blonde hair straight. Lastly, Chandler had on a button up white shirt, a silk black tie, a black suit jacket, back dress pants and black shoes. As Chandler, Camella and Kinsey was about to leave their room Chandler folded a piece of paper and put it in his pocket. When the went out Alyssa had on a black dress that was like Camella's but different, she had silver earrings and a silver necklace to match the earrings, she had her hair up in a bun and she had black heels on. Patrick had on a blue suit with a blue tie and blue shoes.
"I'm not having this!" Chandler said and he pushed Patrick in the room, picked out a decent pair of pants, khakis, and blue shirt with a blue tie and he pulled out Patrick's black shoes.
"What was that for?" Patrick asked, "I looked great."
"No you didn't you looked tacky! This is my best friends funeral, show a little respect," Chandler said. "Oh my gosh, your hair."
"What's wrong with my hair?" Patrick asked.
"It's terrible, I'm going to fix it," and Chandler got to work, he grabbed a comb and a brush and some gel, her combed his hair flat then he put some gel in the back then the front to make the front end stand up. "That's better," Chandler said. "Ok guys lets go!"*********************
When they arrived at the church Chandler was told to go to the fellowship hall and wait with the family and the rest was to enter the church and wait until the funeral starts. So Chandler got out of the car and headed for the fellowship hall, while Patrick parked the car. When they went into the church the woman at the piano was playing 'In The Arms Of An Angel' by Sarah McLachlan. Then she played Amazing Grace, Nearer My God To Thee, and Haven Of Rest. Then she stopped and the family started to walk in.
*********************
Chandler walked into the fellowship hall and Riley's family was there waiting. Chandler hugged Riley's mom, then Riley's dad, then Riley's two older brothers. "I'm sorry for your loss," he said to them all.
"I'm sorry you had to see it, your best friend die in you front of your eyes," Riley's mom said to Chandler.
"Yeah, it was sad, the University is sending me to therapy," Chandler said.
"Well at least you're getting help," she said.
"Ok everyone line up, remember Chandler needs to be on the front row, so Chandler you'll be behind his brothers," the funeral director said.
"Ok," Chandler said.
They walked out of the fellowship hall and into the church. They put a little table behind his casket and in front of the pulpit and on it was pictures of Riley there was pictures of him and Chandler, him and his family, and just him. As the preacher got up to the pulpit he said, "we have a treat with Chandler Bumgarner, Camella Church, Alyssa King-Vello, and Kinsey Elder, they are going to sing a few songs. None of them knew about it, on Alyssa, because she was the one to play the piano. They got up there and Alyssa pulled out sheet music it was, 'In The Arms Of An Angel' so Alyssa began to play the piano, but Chandler decided to hop on the organ and play and sing. Alyssa and Camella sang Alto while Kinsey sang Soprano, and Chandler sang Baritone, which was fun to experiment with because the song was recorded by a girl. After they was finished Chandler was to play his saxophone but he stayed on the organ, and Kinsey played her flute wile Camella sang Nearer My God To Thee. After they was finished, the girls went back to their seats and so did Chandler. The preacher got back up there and he asked Chandler to come back up there. So Chandler went up at the pulpit to begin to talk,
"The moment that you died,
my heart was torn in two,
one side filled with heartache,
the other died with you.
I often lie awake at night,
when the world is fast asleep,
and take a walk down memory lane, with tears upon my cheeks. Remembering you is easy,
I do it everyday,
but missing you is a heartache
that will never go away.
I hold you tightly in my heart,
and there you will remain.
Until that joyous day arrives,
That we will meet again." He said with tears running down his cheeks, he kept looking at the paper for a few minutes then he flipped it over. "Me and Riley was friends since kindergarten, a friend that was meant to be. We grew apart but in third grade we came back. I'm glad I got to spend his last months with him, but it's sad to see your best friend dying right in front of your eyes, and you can't do anything to help them. We had our good times and bad times like we all friendships do, but we are always there for each other through thick and thin." He said with tears coming down. "I'm going to end on another poem.
We've done a lot of things that we'll never regret;
The good ones or the bad ones moments I'll never forget.
It's hard for me to cheer up, because I am feeling blue;
By accepting the fact that, my life's never the same without you.
You've been here with me, through my ups and my downs;
You'll be willing to walk on by the outskirts of all times.
Just to help me get through, my problems all along.
Now that you are already gone, I guess I'll have to be strong.
I'll miss you buddy, pal, best friend, goodbye, but not forever," Chandler ended stepping down while crying and going back to his seat. The preacher got up there, said a prayer and began.**************
When they were ready to take Riley to the airport it was raining, so the grabbed their umbrellas and they all decided to walk. When they got to the hearse, they decided to do it as if Riley was being buried, the preacher said a prayer before sending him to the airport where Riley would be flew to North Carolina and during the prayer, lighting struck. They closed the metal thing that the casket is placed in and everyone went their separate ways. Chandler's ride home was silent and filled with a lot of sniffles, Chandler went invisible because he wanted to be alone. When they got back to headquarters he went into the auditorium and started punching holes in the walls he screamed in anger, he was beginning the second stage of the grieving process, anger.
