"I'm very proud of you Lucy! When you first came here you were saying that moment was the most beautiful moment of your life and now you're realizing that it was bad to do such a thing." Dr. Drake said fondly.
"Well, it wasn't just bad. It was horrible! I know why my parents hate me!" I said with try's running down my face.
"Lucy I don't think they hate you!"
"Dr. Drake, stop lying to me. I hear the staff talking about how bad they feel for me. They say my parents shouldn't hate me because I wasn't in the right mind."
"You weren't in the right mind, but I think you may be in the right mind now. We still have one more test to do but I think you're ready to enter society again." Dr. Drake said proudly.
"Society?" I said with fear in my voice.
"Yes, why? What's wrong Lucy?"
"What I did was all over the news, social media and they put my picture. People will recognize me and remember me as the baby killer."
"That was years ago Lucy."
"So? It doesn't matter if it was six years ago or if it was thirty years ago! Somebody will still recognize me! Can't I just stay here?"
"No, you can't Lucy. Someone who doesn't have psychological problems should not be here."
"Fine." I said sadly.
"Now it's not a certain that you'll be released. You have to pass this test but I'm quite certain you will pass. Now Lucy I want to remind you that the charges were dropped by the Federal Court."
"I still don't understand why the charges were dropped. I killed Mrs. Sons, I wrongfully accused Sally's dad, I destroyed Hazel's fingers and killed my little brother." I said truthfully.
"Well...I shouldn't tell you this."
"Tell me what?" I asked Dr. Drake.
"No one pressed charges and asked the cases to be dropped. Your parents were the first that dropped the charges, then a family member of Mrs. Sons, then Sally's father and then Hazel. I like to add that Sally's father didn't get off the hook because he did have sex with a minor."
"Is he out now?" I asked.
"Yes, he only got five years." Dr. Drake replied with disgust in he's voice.
Then there was uncomfortable silence. I could tell that Dr. Drake knew I was glad that Robert was out of prison. Dr. Drake obviously wasn't glad. I was only glad because I tempted him with something he was deprived of. It was my fault that the name Robert Mayer reminded people of a married guy who had sex with a girl who was mentally ill.
"Should we do the test know?" Dr. Drake asked, breaking the silence.
"Yes."
Dr. Drake pressed the call button for the nurse. She came in and Dr. Drake told her that I was ready for my test. She nodded and walked out. She came back five minutes later and handed Dr. Drake a paper bag.
"Thank you. You can leave now." He told the nurse.
She walked out with a nervous glance at me. Was the test that bad? If it wasn't bad then why'd the nurse give me a nervous look?
"Are you ready?"
"Yes."
Dr. Drake reached inside the paper bag and pulled out a paper plate. He placed the paper plate on he's desk and then reached inside the paper bag again. He pulled out a vial of blood and dumped the blood on the paper plate. He walked over to me and put the plate in front of me.
"What the hell?" I asked in confusion.
"How do you feel?" Dr. Drake asked.
"Grossed out. Where the hell did the blood come from?"
"It came from a dog that passed away."
"Awe! That's horrible!"
"Yes it is. I'm glad you see it that way." Dr. Drake said breaking into a smile.
"You've passed Lucy!"
"I did? That was a dumb test. I hate blood now." I said recalling my hallucination a few days ago.
"Well I'm going to make a few calls and we can get you out of here tomorrow." Dr. Drake said gleefully.
"I don't mean to be rude, but how am I supposed to live? I don't have a house or money."
"I'm going to call your parents."
"There not going to help."
"We'll see."
Dr. Drake pressed the call button again and asked for a nurse to come and escort me back to my room.
"Why do I need an escort?"
"Just because you're sane doesn't mean everyone here is." Dr. Drake replied.
A nurse opened the door and ushered me to follow. I looked closely at his face and realized it was Barry. I stopped in my tracks and glared at him.
"Come on." Barry said with a charming smile.
"Fine." I said reluctantly.
"So I heard you're sane again..."
"Really Barry? Small talk?"
"What? What did I ever do to you?" Barry asked.
"Well you were completely cold the last time we were together."
"I was having a mad day."
"Yeah right." I snorted.
"I was!"
I didn't reply, I just kept walking. The way he kept glancing at me but I ignored him. When we got to my door I walked in without a word to him and I slammed the door in he's face.
For the rest of the day I went with the normal routine and then I went straight to bed. I tried to get rest but I was so anxious to leave so I barely slept. Finally, around three am I fell asleep, but it felt like I had just fell asleep when the nurse was waking me.
I looked at the clock and saw that it was six am.
"Why are you waking me up so early?"
"Well we have a surprise for you and you're parents are coming at seven-thirty." The nurse replied.
"What's the surprise?" I asked.
"Well first of all new clothes and a make-over!"
"Really?!"
"Yeah, all of the staff pitched to get you new clothes and makeup, but some of the clothes are second hand. The suitcases are second hand too."
"I don't care! This is amazing, thank you!" I said hugging her.
She lead me to the bathroom and gave me so undergarments and a beautiful white sundress to wear. Once I was done changing she put on the makeup. When she was finished I looked in the mirror and gasped. I looked like a normal person...with messy hair.
"Well, we need to do something with that hair." She said laughing.
She put my hair in a beautiful bun with strands of hair out in the front.
"Thanks...Kim" I said looking at her name tag.
"Your welcome! We better get going though. Your parents should be here in ten minutes."
We walked to The lobby and I say down. The nurse put my new bags with me and said goodbye, then left. Right when the nurse left Barry walked in. He looked at me and gasped. He saw me looking and quickly composed himself.
He was about to walk toward me but Dr.Drake got there first. Barry casually started talking to the front desk lady instead.
"How do you feel Lucy?" Dr. Drake asked.
"Great! How did those calls go?"
"Surprisingly well. I think your parents were so clod because they didn't know how to handle your situation."
"That's very true." Said a voice.
I whipped my head to the door and saw my parents standing there smiling.
"Lucy, we are so sorry for all that we've done to you and we're just glad that you're better now!" Daddy said.
"I forgive you and I'm so sorry for what I did, it was horrible to do such a thing and it's my biggest regret."
"Well you weren't in your right mind. Why don't we go home and talk more?" Mama said.
"Okay."
"Wait! I have a surprise for you!" The front desk lady said.
She reached under her desk and gave me a shoe box. I opened the box up and inside were cream coloured heels. I thanked her and hugged her, then turned to Dr. Drake.
"Well I'll see you in two months for your appointment." Said Dr. Drake.
He gave me a hug and my parents, Dr. Drake and I walked out. I glanced back and saw Barry watching my parents and I.
"Honey? Let's go." Said my parents.
"Ok I'm coming."
When I got to my car door and my back was to Dr. Drake Mama glared at me.
"Keep smiling and pretend everything's alright or your father will stab you." She harshly whispered.
I nodded with frightened eyes as I saw Daddy's knife and I forced myself to smile. I got into the car and saw Barry walk out. Daddy started the car and drove away. As we drove I saw Barry arguing with Dr. Drake.
After an hour of silence we finally arrived at the house. It looked disgusting. The lawn was dead and the porch was rotting. The house looked as if someone had tried to burn it down and there was vines growing on the house.
"You like it?" Mama asked.
"Like what?"
"The house you stupid bitch!" She yelled.
"It's....great." I said.
"Don't lie...it's a mess because of you. Your father and I don't live here anymore. We used to but we moved after we got it like this. I got like this because we were both to depressed to do anything. Finally, after three years we got back on our feet, but now you're going to ruin that if you stay with us." She snarled.
"I'm not!"
"Oh but you are. So here's what's going to happen if you want to live, you're going to get out of the car and stay away from us. We were generous enough to bring you here. No one lives here so you can. I think the water still works but if it doesn't, what do I care?" Mama said.
"But..."
"Get out of the car and take your bags." Daddy said.
"Mama...Daddy..."
"Get out and never find us you slut!" Mama screamed.
I silently stepped out of the car with my bags and watched them drive away. I walked up to the rotting porch and sat down on it.
"What the hell am I going to do?" I sobbed.
As I said that a car pulled up to the driveway. The windows were tinted so I couldn't see who it was. The door opened and out stepped none other than Barry.
"What the hell are you doing here Barry?" I said exhausted.
"I'm here to help. I noticed something strange happen with you and your mom so I followed you here."
"So your a stalker?"
"If you don't want my help that's fine." Barry said turning away.
"Wait Barry!" I yelled.
"I do want your help."
"Okay, then get in the car. By the way my real name is Trent. Barry is my middle name, I use it when it comes to work." Trent said.
I scrambled to get my bags and ran to the car. I put my bags in his trunk and got in the front seat.
"Where are we going to go?" I asked.
"My place. You can live with me. You can look for a job, make some money and then find your own place if you want." Trent replied.
"Yes! Thank you!" I said hugging him.
The hug latest for a minute and I tried to pull away but he pressed his body against me harder. I had to admit it felt nice. It was some of first body interaction I've had in years because while at the hospital you had to keep your hands to yourself.
He finally let go but has you let go his hand brushed my breast. I got chills and shuddered. It felt really nice, the last guy to touch me was Robert. He looked at me seductively and started to drive.
