ZELENIA
I never left Jace's side the whole time he slept while his body healed. Yes, we moved him along with us because we knew it wasn't safe as the Skin-shifters were still out there looking for us - well me.
No one still wouldn't tell me why, why they were obsessed with taking me to their queen, The Witch.
Every time I asked I was met with closed mouths and glaring eyes; the eyes were always from Lyris.Obviously they weren't suppose to tell me but I wanted to know.
After hours of walking and keeping our tracks covered we had come to what Hareem told me was a clear stream, but now, it was only a stream of black mud that bubbled and hissed.
"When is he going to wake up?" I said, as I wiped at the sweat that beaded Jace's forehead and neck.
"He'll wake when he does." Hareem replied.
I frowned. I wanted him awake now, walking around and talking, being his usual self.
Not here lying on the ground, shaking and sweating. Looking as if he was in a world of pain.I didn't like it. One bit.
Hareem came over so we could get a look at the wound in Jace's back. After all he seemed to know what he was doing.
There around the wound was a huge red circle that felt like fire. Thankfully it had stopped bleeding and was healing very nicely and quick."He's almost healed." Hareem said, recovering the wound with the paste and leaf.
"Okay. So why isn't he up?"
"That my dear, I do not know." When he saw the panic in my eyes he rushed to clarify.
"No no, I don't mean it as a bad thing. It's just I know nothing about your blood except that it has pure healing properties.
"I do not know how it works, how quick and what it does to the one being healed."He stood up and looked down at Jace with a blank face. "Some persons, after being healed say that they get to relive their best or worst experiences, some say they dream about their worse nightmare while others say it's just a dark abyss. One they're dying to awake from."
"Jace," I looked down at him and took his hand in mine. "He could be going through any one of those?"
"Yes." Hareem said, putting a reassuring hand on my shoulder. "But don't worry, I've seen what your blood can do. He'll wake up."
As I nodded I kept my eyes on Jace. "And the bonding?"
"It's rare." Is all he said and walked away.
Bonding.
After Lyris had told me they were betrothed I had felt like my heart had broken, but sitting here beside Jace while he fought to come back to us made me feel even worse.
I just wanted him awake, it didn't matter if he was to marry someone else. As long as he was alive to do it.
"How is he?" I dropped his hands and turned to see Lyris walking towards me, her eyes on Jace.
"Hareem said he'll be okay. Just needs rest."
She nodded and kneeled down beside him and took his hand in hers. My chest burned but I told myself he wasn't mine, he never was.
That however did nothing to quell the burning, especially when she brushed Jace's hair behind his ear.
Biting my lip I ignored it. "Can I ask you something?"
She sighed deeply and gave me her side eye. "I already told you I cannot tell you the answers you seek."
"Oh no." I shook my head. "It's not about that. I wanted to ask you about Jace," she shot me a wicked glare. "Well about his mom."
