I got my bags and made my way to Caitlin’s. Then Lucas called me on my mobile.

“Hey bub, I haven’t heard from you in ages” I was so happy to hear from him.

“Hey beautiful, how are you” he said, like he would back in primary school.

“Where are you?” I asked

“Actually, I’m on my way to Caitlin’s too, I’m sleeping over to say good bye to nick” he said

“Oh My GOSH! Ahhhh I can’t wait to see you” I was so excited. I haven’t seen him for about a year and a half, he has been living in Melbourne for a while now; he is going to a very good university there. He is studying something to do with computers; he is really good at that stuff. Hey always has been.

I remember in grade 6, he was one of my best friends. I absolutely adored him, not that I had a crush on him or anything. We were both the people who everyone turned to for technical support. We both ran for technology captain of the primary school. He and some other got the job and I got environmental captain. I remember him say “I wish you were technology captain with me”

“Actually the whole group is getting back together to say good bye” Lucas interrupted my thoughts.

“Are you serious” I was so excited

“Yer, it’s gonna be great” he sounded just as excited as I was.

“Ok bub, I’ll see you then” I cried excitedly.

“See you then” I don’t think he ever liked me call him bub. I always called my little brother and sister bub and so I started to call my “sortove brothers and sisters” that too. I remember in primary school how much it annoyed Lucas when the popular girls would call each other babe and put on a fake American accent, Lucas would mimic them at weekly parties our group held.

I hung up the phone and patted ILY that was on my lap. Yes she is still alive and she’s got at least 6 more years in her. She is getting old, she’s 9 yet still chasses birds in the back yard.

When I arrived Caitlin was sitting on the front porch.

“Did you hear, there all coming” her face lit up.

“I know I brought some champion” I said handing the $47 bottle of bubbles.

“Ahhhh, there’s Lucas” she cried.

I saw Lucas’s face, it hasn’t changed one bit, besides the facial hair. He pulled up in the drive way in his hire car, just happens to be a convertible BMW. Caitlin and I ran up to him as he got out of the car. I was so excited; I had missed him so much.

“Hey beautiful” he said giving Caitlin a hug. He always had been slightly taller than her.

“He Georges” she replied, kissing him on the side of his check and then returning the hug.

“Grace” he said moving towards me.

“It’s so good to see you” I said holding him tight.

“God, I missed you guys” he said resting his head on shoulder.

“I brought bubbles” he exclaimed.

“You didn’t have to” Caitlin said claiming the bottle.

Shortly after, Ellen and Tia arrived in the same car, they live together so. Ellen rushed over to Lucas; she was always really close to Lucas. Tia came over to me and Caitlin.

“Hello” she said in her usual crazy voice, pronouncing the O very well. She leaned over and gave us both a kiss on the check

“Hey bub” I smiled.

“I brought some chepo Champaign, knowing Lucas he probably has already brought the expensive stuff” she joked her jokes like she always has. She’s been one of my best friends since grade 3. I remember in grade 3 she had this horrible rusty scooter that she absolutely loved and the stand on it has given me a big scar, I still have it and it makes me smile and think of the good old days. I also remember, she was the life of the party, she would dance on Ellen’s trampoline and we would all make jokes about her, at first she would laugh but then say “I don’t get it” in her crazy ascent. I loved her so much. In grade 5, we did some sort of music project and we watched 2 music clips to see how they made us feel. The first music video was the earth song by Michel Jackson and I cried my eyes out, the second was fire flies by owl city and then Tia cried her eyes out. She put laughter into my life.

Tia went over to Lucas and Ellen came over to Caitlin and me.

“I got the job at David jones” she said excitedly.

“Congrats” I said wrapping my arms around her.

We saw a big red truck pull up in the drive way with a sticker label on it that says “Smart Alex personal training”. It was Alex, in year 6 the whole group would call him a smartalex instead of a smartalec. He ran up to Lucas instantly wrapping his arms around him. Alex was the shyest in the group. He wasn’t gay; he had a beautiful girlfriend, my old neighbor. Her name is Isabel. He then came up to me and game me a usual awkward hug.

“Hey bub” I said

“Hey” he said then moved on to Caitlin passing her a case of beer, now we have enough for a party.
