Elphaba Thropp angrily wiped away the tears the threatened to fall down her face.
"Hey, Artichoke, I heard Fiyero got a new girlfriend. Guess he gave up on the gross green bean."
Those words stung. Elphaba always hid her feelings under witty and sarcastic remarks.
But this time, she was done. That fire that burned inside of her burnt out. They taunted her everyday, and their painful words began to crawl their way into her mind.
The only other option besides crying was to walk away, but Avaric had other ideas.
"Hey, green bean, why don't we see if you're green under all those clothes. "
He smirked at his friends.
"Who knows, maybe she is purple or something. Come on, brocolli, come to my room."
Elphaba turned around and shot him a death glare, causing him to slightly recoil, but he didn't back down.
"So do you and Galinda have fun in your dorm room? Say, I wonder if she is even a-" before he could finish, she kneed him in the groin and almost laughed at the face he made.
His expression went from pain to anger within seconds.
Elphaba, being the smart girl she was, quickly ran as fast as she could away from him.
"You aren't getting away from me now." She threw down her bag and ran to the alley that separated the school and the dorms from each other.
She heard Avaric's grumbling, so she stayed as quiet as possible. After a few minutes, she let out a sigh of relief and started walking back to the school.
"Where do you think you're going?"
Her eyes widened and she tried to make a run for it, but Avaric was faster.
Her grabbed her wrist harshly and pulled her close.
"Now, artichoke, you are getting what you deserve."
He pinned her on the ground and beat her.
When he finally finished, he spit on her.
"You should just kill yourself. Everyone would be better off without you."
He walked away.
Elphaba stayed there, not moving a muscle. She stared into the sky, trying to ignore the throbbing pain in her body.
Everyone would be better off without you.
"Fae!"
She didn't even stir at the sound of his voice.
She felt him pick her up.
She looked up into his eyes, not really seeing anything.
What she did see, however, was love and concern.
She kept her face deadpan, and she could see that worried Fiyero.
Whenever she got hurt, whether physically or mentally, she would always mutter a "i'm fine" or something along those lines.
Elpaba wanted to say something, but she couldn't.
Everyone would be better off without you.
Yes, they would. That's why she let go of her feelings.
What followed, however, shocked her to no end.
Fiyero kissed her. It wasn't just a little kiss on the forehead or the cheek like usual, it was a passionate kiss full love. When he pulled away, she cocked her head at him.
"Fiyero, you have a girlfriend."
She muttered, her voice strained and coarse.
She saw him wince at that.
"I never loved her, Fae."
She looked away.
"Just leave me here to die, Yero. I'm done, ok? I am just an artichoke. I don't want to be here anymore."
She said, her voice strangled.
Fiyero hugged her so tightly she couldn't breathe.
"Fae, who in oz made you think this? Because whoever it is, i swear to-"
His eyes darkened.
"Avaric."
Elphaba didn't respond.
Fiyero hugged her tight and sobbed into her shoulder.
"I can't live without you, Fae."
She looked up at him.
"Of course you can."
He looked at her incredulously.
"How could you possibly think that?"
She shrugged.
"When you started dating Paloma."
He cringed.
"She didn't mean anything to me.
"She's not green."
"And that's why I don't love her."
Elphaba stayed silent at that.
To Fiyero's surprise, she leaned in and kissed him.
"I love you, Yero My Hero."
He hugged her tight.
"I'm never letting you go again."
