Chapter 3: Bitten

It was getting dark now. We had almost finished setting up everyone's new beds. Mine was in its usual spot, in fact most people had kept to the same areas except for Thomas who had decided to move to the left a little. He was more towards the centre of the room now annnnnd... (I mentally wiggled my eyebrows) he was closer to Caitlin's corner. Mitch was still across from me which I liked. His bed was done and he was sitting on top of it with his back against the wall looking all smexy like. Stop Sarah geez! You're so weird! I yelled to myself in my head. He had his gazed fixed on the floor and his amazing jet black hair hung slightly over his face. His arms were crossed in front of him and he looked lost in thought. *Sigh* He's so dang hot... I thought and then retaliated no Sarah! Shut up! I quickly dragged my eyes away from him so that I couldn't drool over him any longer. I noticed Xanna who was sitting by herself and realised that Madi was downstairs making us dinner still. My stomach growled at the thought of dinner and I glared down at it as if intimidating it would make it stop. My hair was still down and it was annoying the crap out of me. I think when that DF grabbed it he broke the hairband. Damn it! It sat on the back of my neck irritating me and I couldn't put it back up. I noticed that Caitlin had taken her hair out as well but hers probably wasn't nearly as annoying as mine, what with it gracefully flowing down to her waist and all. Then there was Madi. Her seriously short hairdo made me a little jealous, it would be way easier and less irritating to have mine at that length. I sighed realising how bored I was. We seriously needed to raid the library or something. Maybe I could suggest that to Xanna tomorrow. I laid back on my own mattress bed. Man it was so much better than the floor. I could fall asleep right now in these sheets and blankets and a pillow which was like heaven under my head. My eyes closed but as soon as they were I heard Madi call everyone downstairs. She had suggested that we eat in the dining room from now on because there were still some tables and chairs left in one piece. I groaned and flung the warm covers off of me. I saw the others get up and start going downstairs and so I followed them. I saw that Madi had an evil grin on her face as we entered, what was her deal? Then I saw the table which was nicely set with plates, cutlery and even some flowers in a vase which she must have picked from the gardens outside. A few candles lit the table casting shadows. I didn't know why they would waste them, the power was still on meaning we could just use the lights but whatever. I got closer and realised another thing, the seats were all labelled with names. Did she assign us places to sit? I found my name towards the end of the table and sat down. The seat on my right was the end seat and I watched as Miles sat down in it. Across from him at the other end of the two tables pushed together was Solomon. Okay... Then I saw Caitlin sit down in front of me and glance at Miles to her left. I thought I saw him give a little smirk as he turned away from her. What made her go really red was Thomas who sat to her right. I giggled a little now knowing what Madi was doing. She was trying to play matchmaker. Olivia sat next to Thomas with Hayden on her other side. Hayden was next to Megan and then Solomon was at the head of the table next to her. I glanced at the empty seat on my left. Madi wouldn't would she? It would be so awkward... As I feared, Mitch saw his name and sat down next to me. He gave me a little smile and I tried to stay calm as I smiled back and quickly turned away from him. Curiosity got the better of me and I turned back to check who was sitting beside him. Dean was to Mitch's left, Brooke next to him, Madi next to her and Xanna on the end between her and Solomon at the head. I glared at Madi and she cracked up laughing, guilty as charged. I rolled my eyes. Once madi had finished laughing she got up and went to the kitchen to grab our dinner. She came back a minute later with a tray full of roast meat and other with vegetables. I scooped some up and dropped it on my plate. I wasn't usually a fan of plain roasted meat and veges but I was too hungry to care right now. We dug in as soon as everyone had some and I was thankful for something that could make my stomach stop growling. I glanced towards Mitch who had finished and was staring at his empty plate. Caitlin smiled at me from across the table and I smiled back. The sound of forks dragging on plates filed the room and I only now realised how awkwardly quiet everyone was being. Thomas cleared his throat making it even more awkward and causing a few people to glance in his direction. I noticed Caitlin blush a little as she turned to glance at him too. A few more silent minutes went by before Madi and Xanna stood up and took their plates to the kitchen before heading upstairs. Solomon, Megan, Olivia and Hayden did the same. I expected Mitch to get up and go too but for some reason he just sat there staring at his plate. Caitlin was finished too but she stayed there glancing at Thomas every few seconds. Dean got up and took his plate but instead of then heading upstairs, he came and sat down next to Tom. 'So... did anything interesting happen today?' he asked, finally breaking the silence. I forgot that Dean hadn't heard about the whole "Sarah nearly dying" incident. Miles and Thomas made eye contact as if deciding whether to tell him all the things that happened today or not. Then they both turned to me and I just shrugged. Miles took a deep breath out and opened his mouth to speak but was interrupted by Mitch. 'Nothing much other than a large pack of DFs wondering the village green oh and Sarah nearly dying...' he seemed to scowl at the last part. Brooke and Dean looked at us in shock. 'You didn't tell me that you nearly died!' Brooke exclaimed.
