Deaf + Blind

The Text

      The bell rings twice and I bolt out of the classroom and into the girls bathroom. I pull out my makeup bag and apply a new layer of mascara, smother on a coat of foundation, and apply a clear lip gloss. Wait, he’s blind, he can’t even see me! I look down at my watch, shoot I totally just wasted 5 perfect minutes! Why am I such a dummy! I walk out to the car rider pick up and see him leaning against a tree, his black Labrador sitting at his side.

       “Hey, you took forever.” Blind people scare me sometime, how the freak did he know it was me! I walk closer and stand beside him, “How did you know it was me? I was at least 5 feet away!” He laughs softly, which makes my stomach flutter. He is so perfect. “I recognize your footsteps, your steps are soft and quite. Like youre walking on a frozen lake, that could crack at any moment.” He smiles and I blush, good thing he can’t see. I can’t believe he actually noticed my footsteps! “That is so awesome! What's your dogs name?” The dog looks up at me and sticks out his tongue, “His name is Blake, I’ve had him since I was two.”  I smile, but then it quickly fades. It must suck not being able to see your own dog, or parents, or siblings.

     “Do you have any siblings?” His lips don’t move and he stands still, I regret asking that. “Uh, I used to. My brother and sister died in a car accident. I was the lucky one, the only thing that was injured were my eye’s. The crash caused my eye’s to deteriorate and cause permanent blindness. I miss being able to see...” I look down and circle the tip of my shoe in the dirt, I didn’t understand everything he said, but I knew enough. “I’m really sorry.” without  any warning I wrap my arms around his chest and hug him, then I quickly pull away. Why did I just do that, I feel like a complete idiot! “Thanks, you're a great hugger!” He laughs again and I laugh too this time, I guess i’m not a complete idiot!

        Eli starts to pick up his stuff. “I gotta go, here’s my number. Text me tonight!” He waves bye and runs to his car, I look at the piece of paper and laugh. I got a guy’s number! I spin around in circle and keep laughing, this is the best day of my life! I don’t even care if I look like an idiot! My mom pulls up in her black Nissan, a confused look on her face. I just hop in the car and keep smiling, not bothering to tell my mom about my new crush. I'll tell her sooner or later.

I skip around my room and sing on top of my lungs like a lunatic, i’m so happy I could die! My phone buzzes and I quickly pick it up, it’s him! I read his message and text him back: 

Eli: Hey Destiny!

Me: Hey! 

Eli: Watz up? 

Me: Nm, wait how r u texting if you can’t see!

Eli:  My phone reads ur messages and all I have to do is speak and it types 4 me...

Me: I’m totally jealous! U don’t even have 2 move ur thumbs!

Eli: Yep! Ok, random thought, what if being devoured by animals was a death penalty option...and you got to choose the animal. What animal would you choose? 

Me: Wat type of question is that! Idk I guess I would choose an alligator, it would be a quick death.

Eli: Hmm good choice, but i would choose a fish! It would die before it could devour me.

Me: Wtf no one would be stupid enough to let you choose a fish!

Eli: Whatever! Your just jealous because i’m smart! Ok, I got another question. Would you like to go to a concert with me this weekend?

I spit out my water and scream, Is this a date?! I hold my purple pillow up to my face and scream into it. He asked me to go to a freakin concert with him! 

Me: Of course I’ll go! :p 

Eli: Yay! Well i gtg, meet me tomorrow in front of Mr. Lesters room!

Me: Ok, bye!

Eli: Wait don’t go yet!

Me: why?

Eli: Because I haven't given you a virtual hug yet, I owe you! * gives you a hug * Ok now you can go :D

Me: ROFL your crazzzzzy :p

I click my phone off and twirl around the room, yep i’m officially the happiest girl in the world!
