If Searing went to JMA...
"Uh, looks like I'm in the Silver Winglet," I noted, going through the list. I went to my assigned cave, one with two beds. One was sandy, and one was a bare rock ledge. I sat on the one with sand, because it was mine now. I heard voices out side my cave.
"Come on, Peril!" hollred Clay's voice. "You'll love your clawmate!" Peril, I thought. I'd been dying to meet her. Unlike others, I could touch her. This was because of my curse. I also had something for her.
"Clawmate?" asked Peril's voice. "Are you sure I won't kill them?"
"This SandWing is immune to fire," Clay explained. I peaked around the corner to see Peril's startled expression. Smoke filled the passage way. Peril was in the door way, staring at me.
"Go on, say hi," Clay suggested, nudging Peril.
"Hello, Peril," I greeted. Peril stepped into the room.
"Hi," she said shyly. I decided to reach out to hug Peril, and she flenched away, but then hugged me. A strange prickling feeling accompanied me hug, marching up under my scales. I let go and I looked at Peril's face. Never had I seen a SkyWing look so nervous or unsure of herself. She rung her talons together awkwardly. Most SkyWings I've seen looked tough and ready.
"I'll leave you too to talk," Clay said, and stepped out of the cave. Peril sat down on her bare rock ledge, and made herself as small as possible. I hopped up on the rock ledge next to her and smiled. She shied away, curling her tail close.
"It's okay, Peril," I reassured. I tilted my wings in her direction. She wouldn't meet my eyes. A few moments of silence pasted. "You know, Peril," I began. "The same dragon that left an animus curse on my egg also enchanted something that could help you." Peril perked up and listened.
"Go on," she said.
"Well, the way he lost his soul was enchanting seven necklaces that allow one dragon to appear as another tribe. The SkyWing chain turns any non SkyWing to appear as a SkyWing, plus it allows fire-born ones to not have fire-scales. Plus there is invisibility enchanted in the necklace to." I jumped down from her bed and went to the opposite wall, my bed, and got my bag. I searched until I found it. Here it is: the SkyWing chain. "Wait," I said, turning to Peril. "You must be loyal to me if I give you this."
"Deal," Peril replied immediately. I placed the necklace over her horns, and it settled around her neck. The smoke on her scales dissipated. I lay a talon on hers. It didn't feel hot. "Ooo, brrr," Peril shivered. "I'll have to get used to this."
