One year after I Spy:
Where do I hide it? Where do I hid my egg? My egg wasn't a normal Sandwing egg. Oh no, it's was not. For one thing, it would probably be animus, as my brother told me about my curse. Next thing was, it wasn't a Sandwing. It was going to be a hybrid. The father would most likely be Minnow, one of my Seawing friends. I angerly paced back and forth on the beach. I chose a small island away from my queen's camp, and told Minnow to come. I continued pacing. A few minutes passed. Finally a Seawing surfaced, and I stared talking immediately.
"Minnow! You won't believe this but-" Wait this wasn't Minnow. This one was dark green with light blue underscales. Bubble. Minnow's sister.
"What?" Bubble asked. Then she noticed my egg with a gasp. "Oh, Searing! You got an egg," I nodded slightly. "Oh," Bubble continued. "Who's the father?" She flickered her tail at my silence. After a moment she whisperd, "Is it my brother? Minnow?"
"Yeah," I said slowly. "I mean, I think." Bubble breathed slowly in and out. Finally, another Seawing came out of the water. This one was greenish blue with deep glints of light blue and cobalt blue underscales. Minnow. I ran up to Minnow, and gestured to the egg.
"What?" Minnow whispered, looking a bit embarrassed.
I looked into his deep blue eyes and said, "It's yours." I heard Bubble let out a snicker at Minnow's dramatic face. Minnow put his talons on his head and buried his face in the sand.
"Oh Minnow, don't be like that," I said, trying to comfort him. I wrapped one wing around him. See, Minnow and Bubble are the only Seawings who knew about my animus touched curse. He knew the symptoms. His child would be animus. Bubble couldn't hold her amusion. She burped out a gale of laughter, sounding quite like a walrus. Some friend she is. Bubble was usually so nice. What happened? Bubble had finally calmed herself, although a chuckle appeared every now and then through the awkward silence. Minnow lifted his face. Sand went tumbling off his snout.
"Your curse is going to cause our child to be animus," Minnow asked solemnly. I nodded Minnow threw himself back on his haunches and said, "Knew it!" sadly. I stepped up and put my wings around him. Bubble lashed her tail.
"Pst," she caught Minnow's attention. She flashed the stripes on her side, snout and tail.
Do you really want a child, squid head? You're 10 years old!
Bubble didn't know I knew some aquatic. Minnow flashed his small, non royal spirals a few times then gestured with two claws.
Might aswell let it live.
After a silence, Minnow looked up to me and said, "We need to hide our egg. If anyone finds it it will be smashed." He was right.
"Okay, where?" I asked.
"Give," Minnow stated. "I'll hide it underwater so only Seawings can reach it."
"Oh, but, then I won't be at the hatching, and then what if there's no gills?" I said. Minnow though hard about this.
"Then bury it and dig it up at the hatching," he mused. I chose the only palm tree on the island and dug a hole near it. I placed the egg inside.
"Hmm," breathed Bubble.
"Oh!" I exclaim, looking at her.
Bubble shook her head and then added, "Your secret is safe with me."
A few weeks later
Day 42 of my secret. Better check on it. I was on the little island where my egg was. I shoved sand around, digging for it. No. It wasn't there. I dug all around the tree. No, this couldn't be.
"NO!" I hollered.
"Loose something?" said a voice behind me. I whirled around to find Yowie staring at me with his one ebony black eye. He lost the other eye in the war. Yowie was a Sandwing in Blister's army. He was one of my best friends. Could he of took my egg? How could he of known?
"Oh, um, yes. But it's not important," I cooed. Yowie flicked his tail.
"Mmhmm," he purred. Yowie spread his wings. "Seriously, Sear. What'd you loose?"
"Its not important," I blurted, shaking my head. Yowie let out a sigh.
"I should help you find it," Yowie suggested with a shrug.
I did not want Yowie finding out!
"I have some friends who might know." I told. I spread my wings smoothly and lifted off, wondering if Yowie would follow, and he did. Yowie stretched his light grayish sandy scales and light caught on the deep brown flecks along his spine and wings. I turned and beat my wings onward. I soared into the Bay of a Thousand Scales. To my luck, Minnow was where we like to sit at night and watch the stars. There was another Seawing, this one blue green with green underscales and bits of emerald here or there in the sunlight. That was Kraken, a Seawing in Minnow's class. I dove down and landed behind Minnow, nearly giving Kraken a heart attack. Minnow whirled around just as Yowie landed.
"Searing!" Minnow gasped. He wrapped his wings around me, and behind Kraken, Yowie looked disappointed.
"Seawings?" Yowie stated. "You're friends with some Seawings? How awful!"
Minnow shot Yowie a glare, and Kraken whirled around and noticed the other Sandwing with a gasp. Yowie let out a chuckle, and just as he did, I nudged Minnow with my wing.
"Psst, Minnow," I whispered as he looked at me. "I should talk to you in private."
"Why," Minnow asked.
"This is important, Minnow, trust me," I whispered. Minnow turned and flashed his stripes at Kraken.
Girlfriend problems. Ugh, see you in a bit.
Kraken gave a shocked face and flashed back.
Girlfriend?
Minnow let out a chuckle. "Come on, Searing. Let's go," he said.
"Can I come?" Yowie spoke, suddenly. I shook my head. "No, go back to the camp," I told. Yowie let out a snort.
Minnow and I flew down and down to a cave. We dove in the water for a short moment and resurfaced in a small, underwater cave. Even as a Sandwing I loved water. Yes, it was strange, but water was my life.
Minnow sank his claws in to a boulder and scrabbled up on it as soon as he was out of the water. He watched me do the same with his sky blue eyes.
"So," he began with a scratch of his gills, "is it, um, about our egg?" I paced around Minnow so he was between me and the water.
"I didn't think you'd guess," I said smoothly. Turning my head away I add, "It's gone, Minnow. Our egg wasn't there when I checked on it." Minnow drew in a frightened breath.
"Bubble was the only one who knew about it," Minnow blurted. Anxiously tapping his claws, Minnow added, "Let's ask Bubble, she's the only one who knew about it. I swear I didn't touch it." Afraid I suspected him, Minnow held up his claws innocently. I shook my head, telling him that I didn't suspect him. Minnow appeared relieved. "Where is Bubble, by the way?" I questioned with a tilt of my head.
"Conducting buissness in The Deep Palace." Minnow said.
"Drat, I can't help you. Unless,"
"Unless what?"
"My emerald necklace!"
"What's so special about it,"
"I told you, Minnow, it's one of my nine animus touched objects,"
Minnow looked startled a bit and added, "Wow, Searing, I completely forgot about that,"
Minnow dove in the water with a huge, wet splash.
Scrabbling toward him, I stop him and say, "You can't follow me to Blister's camp. Stay here."
Minnow let out a sigh and back stroked to the cave wall where he leaned all the way back and spread his wings. I went under. Soon I was out of the water, out of the cave and to breathing.
I flew north and then east to the camp. I saw a small gathering of carpet tents of sandy yellow, blood red, deep purple and off white. There. I dipped down, down, down below and landed near the large, colorfully red tent in the center. That was my Queen's. It was silent except for the tap - tap of claws on sand. I was suddenly and swiftly attacked by a grayish sandy and brown dragon.
"Searing!" it howled.
"Um, Yowie?" called a light, airy voice. A golden sandstone dragon with brown diamond patterns emerged from behind the large, colorfully red tent. Even though Yowie was on top of me, I could see the dragon. That was Chinchilla, Yowie's girlfriend. Yowie flung his head around to look at Chinchilla. She looked worried.
"Why are you on top off her?" Chinchilla mused, sounding offended.
"Well," Yowie tried, "I thought she was going to die and um, errrr..." He trailed off. Yowie got off of me and told Chinchilla the story of how he followed me, that I lost something, and about the Seawings. Chinchilla looked intrigued.
"Oh, Sear," Chinchilla said, coming closer. "You lost something? Let me help you find it." I curled my poisonous tail close to my body and sat up next to Yowie. I wasn't sure what to say.
Finally I say, "Um, no I just came to get something that would help me find it." Chinchilla made an amused noise.
She must remember my animus touched objects. I scratched my scales. "So, I'm just going to go get it, bye." I step to turn around toward my tent when Yowie spoke.
"Whoa, whoa, whoa, hang on," he hissed. Yowie took a menacing step closer. "You're acting really strange, Searing." He stepped up and got in my face, "What's going on."
I turned and ran. I knew I could fly better than either one of them. Do this the smart way. Lose them first. I let them catch up for a little while. Yowie was definitely chasing me, although I was unsure about Chinchilla. So at least one. I dipped down into the ocean, allowing my claws to skim the surface. Rocks were up ahead. I ducked in front of one, swerved to the next and went under another. I stayed in the shadows until I saw a silhouette past overhead. Time to go back.
I snuck out of the shadows. After a flight I reached the camp again. I ducked into a bright blood colored tent next to the Queen's. Mine was much smaller, containing only two rooms. I ducked in and saw my home. The first room had a table facing one wall. Dried prey sat in bowls on the table and in shelves next to the table. A dark red flap hung from the back wall, showing the entrance to the next room. I lifted up the flap. In the far corner was a raised dias for a bed. On the wall near me, hung from a metal hook, was a bag. In that bag were my powerful animus objects.
Wait, I thought. There was something in the shadows. I turned and saw Chinchilla step into the light. She hissed.
"You're hiding something, Searing," she snarled. Two other dragons came from behind me. They were Mirage and Sunset, Blister's body guards. Mirage was golden sandstone colored, like Chinchilla, but she has a lighter crest, while Chinchilla's was the same. Sunset was a grayish color and had a dark brown crest with brown diamonds on all her scales.
Sunset stepped up. She lept on me, while Mirage grabbed my tail before it could strike. Chinchilla stood over me.
"This is a bit extreme," I say, oddly calm.
"Tell us what you're up to, Searing," Chinchilla growled. She had a sweet voice, and her anger made it sound funny. I laugh. Chinchilla scowled. (She's kinda like Sunny but less hopeful and more feisty) She took a meanacing step closer. I sucked in a frightened breath. I didn't want to hurt my friends. Some part of me still wanted them dead, though. Use your fire, I told myself. I shifted under the weight of Sunset. Then, I snap my neck around. Before she could even register what was happening, Sunset was blasted, scorching her left wing. However, the webbing didn't tear, injured, but not scarred for life. Sunset screamed. Beating her wings, she danced around my room. Mirage let go of my tail in surprise, and Chinchilla jumped me. I moved, letting her whisk past and hit Mirage. The two roll on the floor, snarling and hissing. I turn and see Sunset on my bed, desperately trying to fix her wing. I jump to grab my bag of animus objects, when I hear Chinchilla growl.
"Get off me you big oaf!" Chinchilla screamed. Mirage ducked her head and rolled off. Chinchilla was up in an instant, or less. I had a wing around the bag. Chinchilla was up on me like Minnow was up on me the night he got me with egg. She grabbed me and, using all her strength, which wasn't a lot, forced me back. I stumbled and fell. I was dazed for a couple of seconds when my head hit the floor with a hard thud. When I realized what was happening, Chinchilla had ripped the bag from my talons, and flung it behind her.
"Mirage," she said, "gaurd it with your life!"
Mirage fumbled the bag for a moment before turning and looking all soldier like. This was bad, I thought as soon as Chinchilla flung her head around.
"Alright, Searing," she sang, threateningly. "Time to expell your secrets."
"This is a bit violent, Chinchilla,"
I muse. "Why?"
"For Blister!" Chinchilla howled. "She doesn't take secrets lightly in her camp, and betrayal is punishable by death."
"Woah, Chinchilla, you need to chinchill," I half smile while Chinchilla's claws death grip around my neck. "I know, I'm hilarious,"
"You're a traitor," Chinchilla snarled, shaking with anger. "A traitor to Queen Blister!" Chinchilla screamed. These words had an instant effect on me. I snapped.
"Relax!" I yelled, forcing Chinchilla off of me. "All that's happened is that I had an egg with a Seawing." The three dragons in the room gasped.
"A Seawing?" mumbled Mirage.
"Horrible creatures, and she did one," Sunset murmured.
"Tratior!" Chinchilla blasted at top volume. She started crying in a loud, high pitched noise. I lept on top off her and clasp my talons around her snout.
"Shh," I began, "Her Majesty will hear you." Chinchilla whimpered softly. "I don't want Queen Blister to hear about this," I stated to the other dragons. "I really should go back to talk to the Seawings." I leaned over and grabbed my bag.
"Let's go, Sunset," said Mirage. Sunset lept up and followed Mirage out the door. On the floor, Chinchilla was breathing heavily. I turn to leave when I hear her voice.
"I'm taking a nap on your bed," she said.
"Fuck you," I responded.
"Aight," Chinchilla said.
I walked through the tent, with my bag, of course. Outside I catch bits of a conversation.
"Who betrayed me?" whisperd one voice. I instantly recognize Blister's voice. Uh-oh. My stomach dropped.
"No one, Chinchilla was just being dramatic because Searing had an, um, egg," said a different voice. That couldn't be Mirage. It was. I didn't want to hear anymore. I lept away into the sky. I was stopped by Yowie before I left the camp.
"Let me come with you, I'll keep you safe," he had said to me. I agreed to let him come.
After a short flight, I make it back to the place where Minnow is. The thing is, he wasn't inside the cave. He was outside talking to another Seawing. That was Kraken! And Mermaid! Mermaid was a sky blue and emerald green dragon. Mermaid was also in Minnow's class with Kraken. She was at the top of the class. I didn't like the way she looked at Minnow as if she wanted him. I swooped down and heard Yowie behind me.
"Three moons, there's more of them," he complained.
I landed next to Minnow and bumped his shoulder. He saw me and smiled.
"Got the stuff," I told.
"Good, let's go," Minnow whispered.
"Minnow? What's going on? Why do you have a Sandwing stuck to you?" Minnow looked at him, stood up, posed, and flashed his stripes. I recognized one pattern as girlfriend. Kraken gasped and Mermaid, who had her nose in a scroll looked up, confused.
"What?" Mermaid exclaimed.
"Eh, I'll tell you later," Minnow explained to Mermaid. Minnow turned to me, smiled, then flashed his stripes. Let's go! He took off. I followed.
I noticed Yowie, Kraken, and Mermaid flapping along with us. Yowie stopped me by tugging on my tail. I glared at him.
"Can you actually understand their stupid flashing stripe language?" he whispered very low. The Seawings were a few wing beats ahead and didn't hear.
"Yes," I admitted. "I just picked up some hanging around them so much." Yowie shook his head and turned to fly away. I shot after him, soon being next to the leader, Minnow.
After quite a bit, Minnow signaled us down on a small island.
"Huddle up team," Kraken said. We sat in a circle: me next to Yowie, with Minnow on my right, on Yowie's left was Mermaid, and in between Mermaid and Minnow sat Kraken.
" Okay," Minnow began. "Mine and Searing's egg has been stolen so I have a plan to get it-"
"Wait, you and Searing had and EGG?" Yowie interrupted. He turned to me. "Do you have anything to say about this missy?"
"Love is love, snails-for-brains," I defended.
"When Blister hears about this," Yowie breathed. I hit him hard with my wing, earning a satisfying yelp.
"Tell Her Majesty and I'll skin you alive," I snarled.
"Ay, sandtails, quit it," Kraken said. I turned to him.
"STAY OUT OF THIS," I hollered.
"Kraken is right," Minnow mentioned. I hit Yowie with my wing one more time and leaned over and murmured,
"Listen to Minnow," in Yowie's ear. He cursed under his breath.
"Okay, now that that is settled," Minnow began. He turned and put his claws on top of mine. "My love's egg has been stolen. And if you have a problem with our love, you can go eat your tails. Anyway, here is the plan."
"Question," Mermaid interjected. "Why did you have eggs with her. I'm very confused. That's tainting Seawing blood."
"Who cares," Minnow snapped. "I love Searing and that's all that matters. No more interrupting." Minnow cleared his throat. He started to sketch in the sand. "Okay, so our target is Bubble, since she's the only other Seawing that knows about the egg, and we must find her." The drawing resembled a palace of some sort. "Bubble is on kitchen duty in the Deep Palace as we speak. Kraken, Searing and I with go down there and drag her out." He poked a hole in the sand palace drawing.
"Question," Mermaid interrupted. Minnow shot her a glare. "Why and how are you letting a Sandwing in the Deep Palace?" Mermaid was getting on my nerves.
"Well, you wet cunt," I began. I heard Kraken oooo in the background. "There's a simple explanation. The main reason is he trusts me, the second is that I have an animus touched object that'll turn me into a Seawing, and I have another one that'll kill you." Mermaid recoiled as if I had just murdered her. She bared her teeth.
"You fish fried fuck!" Mermaid snapped.
"Girls, girls, girls," Minnow tsked.
"We get it, your both pretty, but Searing is prettier."
"Ohhhh!" Kraken exclaimed, then hit Mermaid with his tail.
Mermaid proceeded to let out a yelp, and growled and Kraken.
"Enough!" shouted Minnow.
"This is very important to me and Searing, so every body please shut the up." Minnow scowled at every body but me. "Sandwing," Minnow pointed at Yowie. "What's your name."
"Yowie," he replied.
"Alright, Yowie, you stay here. Mermaid keep an eye on him." Mermaid was surprised about this, to say the least. "Searing, Kraken, come." Minnow dove in with out another word. I dug in my bag until I had my emerald necklace. I placed it on. A feeling of death devoured me. Next thing I know, I'm deep blue green with pale green underscales and emerald glow scales. I looked at Kraken gesture for me with my new deep blue and grey eyes. We splashed in and followed Minnow lightning fast. Use the currents, commanded my thoughts.
We eventually stopped, and I looked up. Through the water, I could see a giant rock formation that looked like a dragon skeleton. Minnow stopped me.
Are you Searing? he flashed.
Yes, I responded.
Kraken, is this Searing? Minnow illuminated.
Kraken flashed back, Yes.
Wow, you look good as a SeaWing. Minnow flashed to me.
I simply smiled in return.
Come on, Kraken complained.
Minnow gestured for us to come and swam off. I followed with Kraken close behind. He stopped.
Watch out, Searing! We're about to enter the current, Minnow warned. He angled his wings, and shot up ahead. Kraken did the same. Okay I can do this, I thought. I angled my wings and shot along. In a few moments, a beautiful coral reef palace stretched out of the cannon in front of me. It was absolutely swarming with Seawings. Minnow lead me down and down through the entrance way. A beautiful statue of Queen Coral loomed in the center of the room. I stuck close to Minnow's tail. He lead me into a corridor that twisted up and around. After a few minutes, we saw a balcony with a few Seawings on it. They sliced fish with their claws, carried bowls of kelp, and put seasoning on various seafood. The muffled sound of clattering plates and shells carried through the water. Minnow went up to the closest on, who was placing dead shrimp in a clam bowl of seaweed to make a salad. This Seawing greated Minnow with a smile and a wave. Minnow smiled back. Hey there, Minnow. We're kind of busy, wanna help out? she flashed.
No, um, just wondering where Bubble is. Did she come to work today? Minnow responded. The other dragon shook her head.
No, I'm afraid not. And right before the party for the Queen having a surviving daughter, flashed the seawing. She gave a sad look. Minnow looked angry.
He turned to me and Kraken.
Come on, let's go.
We swam out and back to the main room. Minnow pressed his talons to his forehead.
Let's split up. He flashed. Kraken, you go look at the lower part of the palace, and Searing and I shall look in the upper part.
Kraken nodded and swam off. Minnow gestured for me to follow him, and we searched. And searched. Bubble was no where in the deep palace. We meet up with Yowie and Mermaid on the beach. Mermaid was pacing angrly around Yowie, who looked calm and not afraid of the Seawing. Every few steps, Mermaid would cast an angry glance at Yowie to make sure he was still there. They saw us land. Mermaid looked releaved, however Yowie seemed startled to say the least. Minnow started walking toward him and shook his head.
"No, no, nope," he worried. "Bubble is nowhere in the deep palace." Minnow pressed a worried talon to his forehead. I took off the necklace and felt my scales move and shift. I was Sandwing again. Kraken sat with a sigh.
"Well, we look for her!" I hollered. I wasn't giving up my egg. "We search until we can't search no more!" Minnow turned and looked at me.
"Alright, Sear," he sighed. Mermaid paced over and got in between Minnow and I.
"I'm spending no time looking for a moons' cursed hybrid egg," she spat. Minnow seemed hurt and angry.
"Leave then!" he snapped back.
"Fine, I will!" Mermaid growled.
She spread sky blue wings touched with deep green webs between the fingers of the wings. Mermaid took off with out another word.
"She'll probably tell Coral, ya know," Yowie said to me.
"Queen Coral won't care," I hoped out loud.
"Yes, she will," Kraken protested. "And it's Queen Coral, Yowie." Minnow nodded in agreement.
"Yeah, Sear," Minnow mumbled. "We might not be safe any more. Let's fly around and look for Bubble." Minnow spread his wings, and I saw his glow scales glisten with a grayish emerald green. Minnow looked solemn, as he lifted off, with me and Kraken and Yowie behind.
We searched for hours, and the sun was going down soon. Hope was soon lost. Until... wait? What was that, down there on the edge of the cliff. "Talons of Peace," Kraken spat, suddenly angry. "There camps down there. Hideous, awful dragons." Kraken and Minnow both growled to themselves.
"Let's get out of the sky, above the camp. They'll see us." I shuddered at the thought.
"Afirmitive," Minnow stated. We soared down to watch the camp. We were between two rock crags, in a valley of some sort. The camp was on one side of the rock crag.
"Now I don't know what Bubble looks like," Yowie began, "but there's definitely a lot of Seawings in that camp."
"Yeah, I hoped I saw a dragon in the same shade of emerald as her," Kraken said. Mine and Minnow's faces lit up with hope.
"Okay, team," I blurted. "Here's the plan." I pull out one necklace from my bag after a few moments of consideration. The Skywing chain. "Okay, so, I go in disguised and look for Bubble." Yowie and Kraken nodded. However, Minnow shook his head.
"A wonderfull idea by any means, but what if you get hurt?" he said.
I sighed.
"Minnow," I began, "I must go in alone." I saw his face fall. I put on the necklace and felt my scales shift. I was now who I called Avian. Deep rust colred scales with deep bright red underscales. I spread my new massive wings and took off. I soared down to the camp. Landing at the camp, only a few dragons turned there heads. One of the Skywings grunted. Think, Searing, er, Avian. Skywings. Burn. Joined the Talons of Peace. I stepped carefully over to one Sandwing.
"Psst," I murmured and the Sandwing turned her head. "Um I'm kinda new hear, and, um, don't know where to go to." She grunted
"I'll take you to Nautilus, Skywing," she snorted. "Follow me."
"Uh, oookay?" I said. I followed the Sandwing a long way, deeper and deeper in to the camp. I eventually reached a cliff over the crashing ocean below. In the last rays of the sunlight, I saw a Seawing sitting on the egde of this cliff. He was a nice green color, a few shades lighter than Bubble's scales. He had black patterns on his scales that caught the fading sunlight. They sparkled like a black gem.
"Hey!" the Sandwing suddenly shouted. "Nautilus!" The Seawing turned around. "We have a new member!" The Seawing turned and came over towards us. He silently inspected me.
"Welcome to the Talons of Peace," said the Seawing, "I am Nautilus. Why did you leave your tribe for us?"
"The war," I silently replied. "Its awful. They killed my father." I put on an expression of pure fear and wrung my talons together so they would buy my acting. I looked deep into Nautilus's lime green eyes. Fear, went my mind. Fear the war.
"So basically like every other dragon here?" Nautilus asked. I widened my orange eyes. "Oookayy." Nautilus walked back to the faded sunlight. I stepped around the Sandwing.
"Wait, soldier," she said. "My name is Dustdevil. I fought for Burn before. Assuming you did too?" She laid a wing around me. "Let me be your friend." I sheepishly nodded. "Want a tour of the camp?" I shook my head.
"No, no. I'm sure I'll figure it out,"
I replied.
"Very well," said Dustdevil, "come to me if you need anything." She flew off. Time to look for Bubble. I paced through the camp, carefully eyeing every dragon, looking for Bubble. I past dragons of every tribe, with the exception of Rainwings and Nightwings. I've never meet any member of those tribes. Suddenly, I felt a talon on my shoulder. I spun around. Friendly golden eyes stared into dark orange eyes. I saw washed out red scales with raw, bright, red underscales. Wait... Something is familar. Elevation!
"Avian!" Elevation hollred.
"Oh, uh, hello," I said sheepishly trying to remember how I acted around him the first time. Maybe the Skywing chain wasn't the best idea. I ran worried talons through the chain. Elevation wrapped one wing around me.
"Hey, Avian," he said lovingly. "I've missed you so much! Where'd you go after you disapeared from the Sky Kingdom? How long have you been here? I've been here for several years, passing information on about the Skywings." He sounded excited, and his words where rushed together. I needed to shut him up, and now!
"ELEVATION," I declared loudly and sarcastically. "You need to shut it, and now." He recoiled and, with his head hanging low, slunk away. I turned. Walking around the camp, I finally saw her. Talking to a dark red and light orange Skywing was Bubble. I sunk closer and picked up bits of there conversation. "Yeah, like it?" Bubble whispered. "I stole it from an idiot Sandwing named Searing." This caught my attention. I stepped over there. I walked over to the Skywing.
"Hey, Skywing, why don't I know you?" I asked. He turned his head. Gold eyes inspected me. He grunted.
"I didn't live in the palace," he responded. "My name is Wildfire."
"My name is Avian," I responded. I smiled, then frowned when my eyes fell on Bubble. "Why are you talking to a Seawing?" Bubble frowned back at me.
"This is Bubble," Wildfire said. "Bubble, tell my trusted Skywing friend here about your ingenius plan."
"Are you sure?" she replied.
"Come on, Bubble," Wildfire murmured. "We need alies if this is going to work." Bubble sighed.
"Fine," she complained. "Okay," she suddenly looked serious. "So, I stole an egg from a Sandwing. That's not all, the father is a Seawing." She studied my expression for a moment and then went on. "And the dragonet will be animus!" I shifted my facial expresion to surprise, though I knew all about this. "Yeah, so we sell the animus egg to Burn for her weirdling collection." I gasp. "We sell this egg and another egg to her. We move out tommorow at midnight." I had so many thoughs on this. What other egg? Selling an aninus hybrid egg to Burn? I litterally can't even right now. After a silence, Wildfire spoke.
"Wait, what other egg?" he asked.
"Our egg," Bubble breathed. Wildfire looked shocked. "I'm about to lay an egg, stupid." Bubble finished after a moment. I pretended not to be so shocked, but I couldn't help appearing startled. "So, uh, Avain," Wildfire said into the silence. "Want to help us?" I decided this would be the best way to get information, so I nodded. "Good!" he exclaimed.
"So," Bubble began diplomatically, "here's the plan." She lowered her voice. "Alirght, so in about... three midnights time, I'm more than likely to lay an egg. We take that egg and the animus Sandwing egg and sell to Princess Burn for a price. Avian." She turned to me. "You'll be here then, right?" I nod. "Alright." Bubble starts to snicker. "Searing is going to kill me." Damn right, I thought.
"I'll bring some back up from the Talons if you want, Bubble," said Wildfire.
"Good," hissed Bubble. "Remeber, Avian, three midnights time." I nodded. "Alright team, dismissed." Bubble waved. I turned and flew off at full Skywing speed. I landed next to Yowie, right were Minnow could see me. Before any of them could notice a Skywing, I took off the necklace. I then felt my scales shift and blend. The rust color faded and was replaced by my natural grayish sandy color. My wings shrunk. Minnow let out a squel of delight at seeing me. He ran up to me.
"Searing!" Minnow hollred. "You're okay!" Minnow pressed my talons in his.
"Yeah," I mumbled, recalling what I had just learned.
"Searing?" Minnow wondered. "You don't seem okay." Minnow wrung his talons together. Kraken cut in.
"Alright, Searing," Kraken interupted. "You must know something."
"I do," I replied, and heard the Seawings gasp. Yowie seemed bored as he studied his claws. I told them of Dustdevil, of me finding Bubble, and of everything she said. Minnow was the only one to have more of an 'I expected that' reaction.
"Lets all meet back here in three midnights time," I order. Minnow and Kraken flew towards the Deep Palace. Yowie and I flew towards Queen Blister's camp. I decided to tell Blister that I had an egg. The only part I'd leave out was who the dragonet's father was.
"Well," Her Majesty hissed. There was not a hint of emotion on her face or in her voice. "Seems like an animus is just what we'll need in a war like this. You sure you don't know who the father is?" Queen Blister tapped her chin.
"Yes, Your Highness," I said with a bow. "I have absolutely no idea."
"Slut," I heard Queen Blister mutter under her breath. I looked down at my talons. "One thing I don't understand." Queen Blister hissed after a silence. I looked up. "How does a Seawing know about your egg?" I simply shrug.
"I don't know. Maybe she saw me lay it and knew who I was," I defend. Another silence. What was going on in that marvelous brain? What thoughts were behind that emotionless face. Behind those dark eyes?
"Alright, Searing," Queen Blister finally said. "Dismised."
Three midnights passed. Slowly. Finally I found myself standing in the same place as three nights before, waiting for the Kraken. The other dragons were here of course. Mirage, Sunset and Chinchilla had volenteered to help me. Yowie was here to. And Minnow.
"Hey!" Called Kraken's voice in the distance. We all turned to see a small winglet of Seawings flying in. "Mermaid is helping and wanted to bring some friends." Kraken said as he landed. There were about five Seawings besides Kraken. One I immeditaly reconized as Mermaid.
"I thought you didn't like me," I said to Mermaid.
"Well," Mermaid began. "Heard this egg was animus. And it was going to be sold to Burn. We want this dragon on our side don't we, soilder?" Mermaid tipped her head at me. I smiled back.
"Alright," I said to everybody. "Does everyone know the plan?" Every one nodded then Mermaid adressed me.
"Oh, Sear," she adressed. "I forgot to tell you their names. This is Scylla, Stream, Abyss, and Saltwater." She pointed to each of them as she spoke.
"Nice to meet you guys," I replied. "And this is Mirage, Sunset, Yowie, and Chinchilla." Mermaid bowed her head to the Sandwings.
"Alright, now that we've introduced," Minnow interupted with a wave of his talon, "Lets go find that egg." We all flew around the camp, so we wouldn't be spotted. Eventually, Minnow spotted Bubble and Wildfire at the edge of a cliff, a few moutains away from the Talons' camp. I landed next to Bubble and curled my tail menacingly. She turned and I saw two eggs in her talons. One deep blue. And one pale yellow and sparkley blue. Mine.
"Why, hello, Searing," Bubble hissed. The rest of my team landed behind me. "Glad you could join us. Although." She tapped her chin. I knew what she was going to say.
"Remember Avian?" I snarled "I'm Avian, thanks to animus magic." Wildfire sucked in a surprised gasp, but Bubble didn't stop looking threatening.
"Oh, Searing. So I guess you know what we're about to do," Bubble purred. She flicked her tail. "ATTACK!"
Several Mudwings and Skywings and a few Sandwings flew up and around. One Skywing, who was dark orange, flew up to me and shot a bolt of flame which I let engulf me. The flames past and I was okay. I snicker and lash out with my claws. The Skywing clutches its flaming scars. I go to hit my tail which gets held back by a Mudwing. I claw him in a rage of fury, but the Skywing was back on me. I flip over, hitting them both with my tail. They crumple and fall. Another Skywing came towards me. But green talons wrap around my throat and pull me away. I lashed around and saw Bubble, pulling me out of the melee. Bubble snicker as she tossed my egg from one talon to the other. Minnow was down there too. Watching her next to me.
"Want it?" she hissed. "Come here, Minnow," and he stepped closer. With one swift motion, she yanked his left wing completly out of socket, and threw the egg off the cliff. Minnow went tumbling after it.
