Heat of the moment

Meghan's. P. O. V.
"Your killing us!, please!"
Ricks voice lingered in the air for a moment before we all started to turn around. Before we even took a step the doors lifted and a blinding light was visible. I pulled Alex's body up on my hip as i held him and we all walked in amazed that our safe heaven was real.
We looked around aimlessly until a tall blonde man came out with a pump shotgun in his hands. Thumb on the trigger.
"Who are you?" He asked no one in particular.
Rick, being the leader, spoke first.
"My name is Rick grimes, and this-" he waved his hand out towards all of us "is my group now if I may ask, who are you?"
"My name is dr. Edwin Jenner, now what do you want?" He asked slightly putting his gun down.
"A chance." Rick said letting his words sink in. The heat of the moment was resting on all our shoulders as we stood at the gates of the shelter.
"That's asking a lot these days" Jenner replied. Shifting from foot to foot.
"Please" I spoke. Not sure why I spoke I knew I had to say something as the attention was on me. "We have kids. We're worn out. We've been on the road trying to survive. We've lost people... Just... Please..." I finished and looked into Jenner's eyes pleading for all of our lives.
"The price of admission is a blood test" he said. "But once those doors close, they won't open again"
Some of our group went to retrieve our bags and such as some of us stayed by door.
"You stay here, I'll get our bags" Daryl had told me.
He's so kind.
Once Daryl finished bringing in our bags I set Alex down and pulled my backpack on then I placed Alex back on my hip and we started into the building.
Our entire group went into a single elevator, but as the elevator doors shut, I saw the metal sheets going down in front of the door. Locked.
"I'll have to keep and eye on you" Jenner said pointing towards Carl sending patches of light laughs thru out the packed space. Carl's face lit up and the mood seemed to lighten as we descended further and further into the building. I stood closer towards the back with Daryl behind me. His chest barely touching my back and the laugh vibrating on my lower back sending chills throughout my body. As we made it to the final floor we all walked into a big spacious room with computers everywhere and the ceilings high in the air. It was cool inside and everyone ,I'm sure,was grateful to not be outside in the Georgia heat.

We all gave a sample of blood for our admission but as Andrea stood up she almost tipped over. Jacquie quickly went to her side and helped her stand.
"She hasn't eaten in days, none of us have" she said with Andreas arm slung over her shoulders.
"I think I have something that may help" Jenner said with a small smirk on his face.
