When I was in middle school (just graduated out of 8th), I was usually dropped off early. So, to help pass the time I'd make these comics in notebooks that I'd let my friends read as they came to school. I made several separate comics, including one called Rebel (that's a whole 'nother story). In Rebel, there were these feathered dragons that had feathers that glowed in the night, and they came in all sorts of colors.
This is a scene showing three characters from my Rebel Series, in the forms of Drakes of the Night. (Only two of them are actually humans- the third one to the right is a griffin.)
