Chapter 1: A regular day
The trees were all around me, most of them were oaks that made me think this wasn’t the right city we were suppose to go to, but a jungle of big oaks and houses instead. I kept staring at the window of our black BMW car.
“I’m hungry dad” I said.
“Just wait a little longer son, we’re almost there” my dad replied, or that’s what I think he said.
Suddenly there was a big ‘boom’ and my dad threw me out of the car and I landed safely near the bushes. I waited for help, scared. Suddenly I blacked out. When I woke up, I was in this room and I had bandages on my head so I figured I was in the hospital. I heard voices coming so I pretended to be asleep.
“Is he conscious already?” a male voice said.
“I don’t think so, let’s just let him rest” said a female voice then they left the room.
I felt weak and fell asleep again. When I woke up, my mom was beside me, she must’ve came home from the Philippines when she found out I was in the hospital. I asked her where dad was and she began to cry, I didn’t understand why she was crying until I was discharged from the hospital.
My mom got me dressed in an all-black outfit. We arrived at this place, I saw this bright copper coffin, and when I took a peek, I saw my dad. Tears came rushing down my cheeks, I ran to my mom and she gave me a big hug.
“It’s okay Josh, it’s okay” she told me.
Then everything went black, there’s this sound piercing through my ears, it sounded relatively like my alarm clock.
“Phew! It was just a dream” I thought when I woke up, sweat dripping from my forehead.
I was only 7 years old then, now I’m 17. Years had passed but I’m still having that nightmare. I got ready for school, doing the usual daily routines.
“Good Morning young master” one of our maids greeted me.
“Morning” I said.
I ate breakfast with my mom. After that, I bade goodbye.
“Bye mom” I said
“Bye Josh, take care”
“I will” I said as I rode my silver Porsche car. I was walking up the stairs of the famous school, the Oakwoods High School, I saw my best friend, Marie Avery walking.
“Hey Marie” I called out to her.
“Sup dude.” she answered me.
Marie and I had been best friends ever since I moved to Oakwoods 10 years ago.
We walked to our class together. When it was recess time, we went to our lockers and when I opened mine, a large heap of papers were piled up there.
“Fangirls?” Marie asked.
“Yep, as always” I answered.
Ever since I got into that school, no girl, except for Marie, has never given me letters, love letters to be exact. And to tell you the truth, I kinda got used to it. I started reading one of the letters, the one on the topmost.
Dear Joshie,
You do know that you are the cutest and most handsome guy I’ve ever met. So have you considered my proposal of us going out on a date? Hihi. I’ll be waiting.
Xoxo
Veronica
“Phew, no thank you, she just wouldn’t stop” I sighed.
“Lemme guess…That blonde gal that always asks you out on a date? What was her name again? Umm…Veronica was it?” Marie curiously asked.
“Who else do you expect?”
Veronica was one of the “populars” in the whole university. The other ‘populars’ are Rafael, Mika, Carlo, and the twins Louise and Angela. People look up to them, maybe because they’re rich and came from wealthy families. It is very rare for them to give offers to become part of them. Unfortunately, I was given one. I didn’t accept it though, but despite the turndown, Veronica still stalked me, which I find to be irritating.
“Krriiiinnnnggg~~” the bell rang which means recess was over.
Marie and I went to Physics class, and in the middle of the quiz we were taking, Mrs. Johnson, our principal, announced something.
“Announcement to all. Classes today are suspended due to an impending storm, students are advised to go home immediately.”
There was a loud murmur from the students. Before going home, I went to my locker to get some books, and once again, a large pile of letters were there.
I was walking to my car and I saw Marie and called out to her,
“Hey Marie, come here and I’ll just give you a lift” She was hesitant at first, but ended up coming with me because rain started to pour.
“Good thing you came or else you’ll be soaked when you get home” I said while stopping myself from smiling.
“Tch. You are sooooo lucky I’m not one of those annoyin’ gals” she bluntly said “Oh why won’t dad allow me to have that blue Porsche I have my eye on. Merde. ‘Sides, I love the rain anyway.”
I dropped her in front of her house and escorted her up to the door, covering her head with my leather jacket.
“Merci and by the way, I’d prefer to be drenched than to be with you, hey, I’ll go to your house later, okay? Au revoir mon meilleur ami!” She told me.
I came home, a little drenched and went into my room to take a shower.
