Chapter 4: Raccoon
(Marie’s Point of View)
I was walking to school when I saw Ellyna. I ran towards her as fast as I could.
“Ellyna!” I shouted.
She turned around and waved shyly.
“Hi! So I heard the ‘populars’ picked on you yesterday? I’m so sorry I wasn’t there”
“O-oh! I-it’s okay, Josh was there…”
“Aa, okay. Don’t worry, I’ll make them pay for what they’ve done.”
“Huh? W-why?”
“They think that they rule the school.”
“Oh, Y-you don’t need to do that…”
ahh “Nonsense. We’ll make them eat their words”
She looked at me, confusion evident in her face.
“Di nila alam na half-pilipino kami ni Josh”
She was shocked and I just laughed my head off.
“H-half pilipino k-kayo?”
“Oui”
(Back to Josh’s point of view)
I decided to walk to school today, maybe because I saw Marie and Ellyna walking together to school. I became curious so I decided to join in the conversation.
“Heyyo guys! What’s up?” I enthusiastically said
"I just said we are half Filipinos" Marie told me
“Ahh ganun ba? Great. Ayy oo nga pala, Ellyna, I’m sorry that I didn’t tell you yesterday na half Filipino ako”
“Okay lang yun” Ellyna said
"Hey Josh, why'd you choose to walk today?" Marie curiously asked me
“Umm, nothing. Exercise?”
"That rarely happens"
“Well—Hey Ellyna, why are you so quiet? And why isn’t Jack with you?” I said as I noticed her, well also to change the subject
I saw Marie smirking at me but I just ignored her.
"W-well, h-he goes with his new friends..." she told me shyly
“Sigh” Marie sighed
“What are these?” Ellyna asked
“Well, they’re letters. I get a lot of ‘em, I dunno why” I answered naturally
“We got used to it” Marie said
“Ohh, is that so? Uhh, we better--, we better go to our class already” she said
Marie glanced at her watch
"Merde! Five minutes left!" she exclaimed
The three of us went to class, running as fast as we could. We came just on time and Mrs. Waterson came in and we started Physics class. After Physics class, we had Economics, then History then lastly Geography. The bell rang and it was lunch time. Marie and I decided that Ellyna should have lunch with us so we invited her and she gladly accepted. We went to our usual spot in the canteen. Marie sat beside Ellyna and I was in front of them two.
“So, why don’t we buy some lunch eh?” I asked them
“Sure, you go buy me some bacon sandwich” Marie told me
