Seungcheol seemed to have found himself tangled within an inner turmoil.

He juggled his choices accurately and carefully measured his actions so that everything would unfold the way he'd wanted.

Seungcheol didn't have the time or the patience to wait for something to happen—no. He constructed scenarios and angled them precisely, like a pool ball falling into the right hole.

Measured, perfect and efficient.

He was fairly young for a vampire, naive, uneducated and relied heavily on undeveloped instincts. There was still so many things about his kind that even he didn't know of.

To be fair, you can't really learn much in 65 years.

But that's beside the point.

He didn't come to the imperial palace simply to play 'servant and master' like some kind of maid for hire. That was a human activity... and somewhat degrading and damaging to a vampire's ego and principles.

Just like usual, Seungcheol waltzed into the palace with a plan. A very carefully constructed plan that he had spent days making and preparing for.

You see, Seungcheol was running from a curse. Well, more like a vampire which was the embodiment of a curse.

That vampire wasn't very happy.

He had gotten into some trouble with his old clan and was now classified in bloodied vampire history as "The Great Betrayer." They had painted him as a putrid traitor overnight due to an ancient scroll found in the depths of the 'Restless Forest.'

In the scroll, was a prophecy.

The prophecy said that "a vampire born from human parents will be brought up in a clan of pure-bloods. He will soon overtake the strongest known vampires in ability and escape the clan, deciding to mingle and roam among the mortal races."

"He will make the existence of vampires known to a human. It will inevitably end in betrayal."

It seemed that the rest of the scroll had been ripped off and taken as the prophecy was unfinished and unsigned.

It could've been a prophet—most likely. But vampires hated the idea of divine presence residing on the land they walked on and decided to strongly believe that it was the Elder One that had written the prophecy.

The first vampire.

Fortunately for Seungcheol, he matched the description down to every detail that was written on that wicked piece of worn-down paper.

He was an anomaly in the community. Nobody knew how it was even possible for an immortal being to be born from two humans. Some thought he was a disguised deity but that was soon brushed aside when he had committed his first sin.

At the age of 5, when his fangs had first developed... he ate his parents.

He was found at the foot of their bed by his mother, munching on his father's neck, chewing away at the chunks of skin until he reached a vital artery.

Blood spewed everywhere.

She stood in disbelief.
In fear.
In disgust.

Because how could her precious baby boy be eating the flesh of his own father.

"It must be my delusion," she murmured, her voice cracked and frayed at the edges. Focused so hard on the bloodbath in front of her to attempt to create another coherent sentence.

Seungcheol didn't bother to turn in her direction. He just, ever so slowly rose to his feet, and wiped off some blood from his mouth.

Like it was just another Tuesday.

As he stumbled towards his mother who seemed to have her feet welded to the floor, he took a moment to think.

How did this happen?

He had walked in to his father's room to wake him up for breakfast when a sudden pulse pushed him to pounce.

It almost felt like his heart had stopped beating when he tore the first bit of flesh from his chest.

But as the realisation had settled into young Seungcheol's head, instead of grief and guilt... he felt exhilarated.

Like he was on a high.
Like his thirst for blood wasn't abnormal or out of the ordinary.
Like he wasn't killing his own father.

And now his mother stood with wide eyes. Red from staring, bleak from fear.

Because she knew she was next.

Seungcheol—the saint, decided to shed some mercy on his mother, snapping her neck first before prying her neck open with his fangs.

He did it at the speed of light so that she wouldn't feel any pain.

Because how could he ever eat mummy dearest alive? Unlike dad, she had a purpose. She was pretty and made him yummy food.

Dad just lounged around and hit him and his mother when he was drunk and pissed off.

Mother also used to beat him often when she got angry and annoyed.

But at least she made good food.

So no. He couldn't eat his mother alive. It would be a crime to hear her screams.

It's better when she's dead so she won't feel a thing.

So Seungcheol feasted in silence, digging in to the glorious taste of organs and blood like a Sunday meal.

Of course he ate with mum and dad, it was a tradition.

Except, they were the main course.
