Ariel & Caesar

I haven't watched Paper Towns yet but I really want to. I've read the book though. Enjoy the chapter. <3 -Planetary

We sat in different rows. I sat with Caesar, above Bruce, Jade, and Jack. Carrie and Adam were just below the rest of us.

Caesar and I sat in silence the whole time. He would offer me popcorn once in a while and halfway through he said "Cara Delivigne is the best." I just nodded in response and ate my share of popcorn until the movie ended.

Once the movie ended, the credits rolled and the lights switched on as everyone crowded to the doors on the sides of the room. We got up, brushing popcorn off our laps and throwing cups and bags of popcorn in the trash. Once we were outside, everyone chattered about the movie.

"Remember that part when they wore the shirts? Because they were naked under the robes," Carrie giggled.

Everyone laughed and swayed as we walked. We were tired and barely knew how to walk at this time. Almost like we were drunk. I felt giddy and flirty.

I was walking next to Carrie when I saw in the corner of my eye, Adam putting his arm around Carrie. I saw Carrie blush and I couldn't help but say something.

"Aww," I said without looking at them.

"What?" Carrie asked.

"Nothing," I breathed as Caesar put his arm around my shoulder. But it felt normal, like he was allowed to. I smiled.

Finally, we all piled into our separate cars. This time I went with Caesar and Jade. Adam, Bruce, and Jack had gone in Carrie's car because their houses were closest to hers.

We sat silently in his car. Jade had fallen asleep during the drive and me and Caesar just listened to the radio. 'Don't stop believin'' by Journey was playing.

When we arrived at his house, we got out of the car and I waved them goodbye.

"Ariel!" Caesar said, stopping me in my tracks. I turned around and saw him running up to me.

"I'll walk you home," he said, out of breath. He turned toward his house and yelled to Jade, "I'm walking her home!"

"Whatever!" She yelled back as she unlocked the front door of her house and trudged inside.

He turned around and smiled at me. "You know what that movie makes me want to do?"

"What?"

"I feel like I want... no, could do something spontaneous. Like in the moment... y'know?"

I laughed. "Yeah, me too."

"Do you ever look up at the stars... the sky at night and think, wow. We're really really really small. The universe is huge and we're smaller than a speck."

"I do. It's pretty amazing actually. And I wish I could explore it all."

"Me too."

We were at my doorstep now. And he was looking down on me. His lips inches away from mine. I looked up at his eyes, inspecting them. They were beautiful and I'd never noticed they were, until now. Suddenly he leaned down and pressed his warm lips against mine. His lips tasted of peppermint and popcorn. My eyelids shut as my hand went up to his neck. His hands were in my hair as he kissed me. He pulled away and grinned.

"Spontaneous," he whispered as he stepped back and started down to his house. "Goodnight, Ariel."

"Goodnight, Caesar," I whispered as I unlocked my front door and stepped inside.

The warm air impacted my sleepy self. I blushed as I lazily walked to my room and let myself fall on my bed. I couldn't stop thinking about the kiss. The moment replaying in my head as I kept feeling his warm lips on mine.
