Ariel & Caesar

When I had woken up this morning, I wasn't ready to leave the house for school. My mind was still in a deep pool of thoughts. The pool contained every memory of what had happened last night.

"Ariel? Are you alright?"

As fast as I had dived into the pool of thoughts, I plunged right into reality. "What?"

"You've been staring at your bowl of cereal since you poured the milk. Now the cereal is soggy. Oh and hurry, you're gonna be late for school."

I look down at my soggy cereal and decide to throw it away. I grab a granola bar instead.

"Don't forget to put away the milk," my father said as he tapped the milk carton, "you'll make it go bad."

I smiled as I placed the carton in the fridge. I was glad he was talking to me. He was actually making an effort and I didn't.

I waved goodbye on my way out of the house and unwrapped the granola bar I had brought with me. I chewed on it as I walked down the street towards school.

"Ariel! Wait up!" It was Caesar. I heard his footsteps get closer and then an arm around my shoulders.

I smiled. "Hey, Caesar."

"What have you got there," he pointed to my granola.

"A raspberry granola bar."

"Sounds delish."

I laughed and look at him. He was grinning at me. "Delish?"

"It's short for delicious."

"Whatever floats your boat," I split the granola in half. "Want some?" I offered the half.

"Is that your breakfast?"

"Yes but it's fine. I can deal until lunch."

"Then no. I don't wanna steal half your breakfast. Don't you get hungry from only eating that?"

"Yes. But I didn't have time to eat breakfast today. It's not like I'm going to do it everyday."

"Okay, Ariel."

"You say my name a lot."

"I like it."

"I like the name Caesar better."

We were nearing the school building now.

"I like hanging out with you, Ariel."

"We should plan something. Go to the park?"

"Maybe we could go stargazing."

"Maybe."

We were walking inside the building now.

"See you in Geometry." He leaned down and planted a light kiss on my cheek and walked away from me, towards a hallway. I blushed as I walked down a separate hallway, towards my first class.
