Mara

She died.

The same words were spoken over and over and although they were for my own comfort, their sorrows dripped from their lips like venom. "I am so sorry for your loss" or "May she rest in peace" only reminded me of my best friend's poor choice even more.

Found at the bottom of a bridge, pills coursing through her veins.

I didn't leave my house for a month. The vibrant reminders of her passing seem to find me where ever I went. It was almost as if Ally wanted me to be haunted by her ghost; she always did like horror movies.

Her family has chosen to remain private about the tragic event.

We met in kindergarden.  We were best friends ever since, and we would still be if she hadn't  done what she did. When we entered high school she  hated her family because they never understood her, they never could connect to their only daughter which began her problems.

May her soul be remembered forever.

The bell at the top of the door jingled as I entered Mama Mia's Diner for what felt like the one thousandth time. It was Halloween and I was the only one working besides the chef, Big Dave. Sending Dave a small wave, I head to the counter to tie my apron and start wiping the tables. The diner is almost empty besides an old couple enjoying coffee and a slice of pie.

It was rare to have many customers during the Holidays which was a blessing and a curse for me. I applied for the job as a waitress about a year ago when everything happened. I needed something to distract me, and next thing I know I am here working at Mama Mia's. A faint smile traces my lips as I wave a goodbye to the couple and welcome them to come again.

The bell at the front door rings signaling another customer has come, or should I say customers. A group of four men walk in and take a seat at a booth. From afar I take notice of their appearance. They looked no older than twenty five yet no younger than eighteen. All dressed in black and confidence practically radiating off their bodies, they look extremely intimidating. As a scan them individually, my eyes make contact with another pair.

Blue, they are so blue.

Falling out of my trans with the stranger, I quickly break the stare and look down. My cheeks heating up as I slowly head over to the table to take their orders.
