Chapter 16

I sat in the huge lit up room that was the Long Beach Country Club's hall. The crystal floors and tiled walls shone brightly from the light that came from the over sized chandeliers that hung above. Women's diamond jewelry gleamed in reflection. Around me sat over 200 well dressed people, women, men and children wearing their best dresses and outfits for the occasion. Everyone was sat around circular tables with white table cloths draped over them. Huge candle stick holders stood in the middle of them, with burning citrus and apple scented candles in them. Dinner had just been served and desert was on its way. Many women sipped their coffees from their bucket sized mugs and men drank strong looking whisky. I flicked my eyes around the room, and still sitting at the top table with him mother and father to the left of him was Tristin, looking bored pretending to be interested in his fathers conversation. On the other side of his table sat Destiny's mother and father, and to their left sat Destiny. She wore a small dark blue dress that matched Tristin's tie, and about a ton of diamond jewelry stacked around her neck. She was looking under the table at  her lap, clearly texting.

As I was about to avert my eyes Tristin looked up at me and met my gaze. His dull expressionless face turned in to a cheeky smile as he winked at me and pulled his iPhone out of his pocket. I saw him look down at my lap and I waited. Sure enough, my phone bleeped.

"Having fun?-T xxx"

"I guess xxx" Was all I could reply, as to be honest the night had been a bit of a drag so far. Tristin had been occupied with important professional looking adults making polite conversation all night. I hadn't managed to even say hello to him after the way we were quickly ushered in to the club's lobby.

"Wanna turn that 'guess' into a yes? Meet me in 5 at the gazebo-Txxx"

I looked up from my phone and across to him. He had a mischievous look across his face, and I couldn't wait to find out what it was about.

The chilling evening wind bit my skin as I walked out of the large patio doors from the lobby into the garden area. I could see at the end of the gravel path stood a cream gazebo lit up in white fairy lights and a tall dark figure stood facing towards the ocean view. He was there.

The gravel crunched beneath my glittery heals as I did my best to get to the gazebo with out falling. It was a relief to step off it and on to the stone floor of the beautiful little out door building. As my heels made a clapping noise Tristin spun round, a smile already plastered on his face.

"I've been expecting you!" He said with a small nervous chuckle.

"Haha." I replied sarcastically. I went a lent over the small wooden wall of the structure that faced the glimmering turquoise sea. Tristin soon followed and went back into the same position as before.

"It's some else, isn't it?" He asked

"What the view?"

"No, this whole thing. The gala, I mean it's just an excuse for people to get dressed up and flaunt their wealth to others. To be honest I always think these things are sub-consciously a 'who's the richest' contest. Its just so pretentious. Like, I must have had over 50 meaningless conversations tonight, with over 50 meaningless people, and only now towards the end of night am I talking to the most interesting girl in the room."

I could feel my cheeks flushing as I smiled to the floor at his compliment. I looked up for a second, then down again, feeling too faltered to speak.

"Let's go." He said taking my hand.

"Where?"

"You'll see."

We walked to the very back of the garden area and instead of a deep drop to the beach there were crumbly looking stone steps down to the sand. I gripped Tristin's strong muscular hand tightly all the way down, afraid I was going to fall, when finally we reached the bottom and I could take my shoes off and walk properly. I held my heels in my hand as Tristin un-did his smart looking shoes and rolled up the bottoms of his trousers. He then used his spare hand to hold mine and we walked along the shore, where the tide met the sand just listening to the sound it made.

After about two minutes Tristin spoke up. "So, Kate. I've been thinking and, well.."

"Oh god. You're going to break up with me, aren't you?"

"What?" He said, stunned.

"I mean I know we're like not even officially together, but you know, it feels like we are. Well.. to me anyway and I get it if you don't feel the same-"

"Kate!" he said laughing. "I'm not breaking up with you! In fact I wanted to do the opposite. I wanted to ask if you'd.. well.. be my girlfriend?"

I bit my lips fighting back a smile. Had Tristin really just asked me out?!

"But what about Destiny, I mean if she finds out she'll, she'll. I don't know, but I hate to think!"

"Ok, well... would you like to be my secret girlfriend then? Just for a while, I'm sure she'll get over it eventually."

I'm not so sure I said to myself. But Tristin being the Mr Optimistic he is, I had to admire him.

"Well, in that case, I'd love to be your girlfriend." He stopped in his tracks and turned and stood in front of me. He grabbed both of my hands and smiled.

"Really?"

"Of course." Then he lent down a bit, cupped my face, and gently kissed my lips. He tasted of vanilla and coke, once again, but now that was my new favourite taste. He then used one hand to delicately put a loose strand of my hair behind my ear, then he gripped my face tighter and put the other hand on my lower back. The delicate kiss soon turned into a passionate make-out session. He trusted his hips on to mine at he rand is hand along my back. And with the strength of both of us pushing our selves on to each other, we soon lost balance and toppled over into the sand. All of Tristin's weight pushed on me and he ran his hand down the side of my body and I ran my hand down his cotton shirt, feeling his abs faintly underneath. As I faintly opened my eyes for a second I noticed that even in all his fancy clothes, Tristin still had his earring in. Bad boy.

But all of a sudden we were stopped, by a noise that sounded like someone in the distance. We both shot up and looked around and over at the steps. Nothing. We got up and made our way back over them, realising people would soon start to realises we were missing. But as we got closer to the steps we noticed a third footprint trail, one that defiantly wasn't ours.

Someone had been there, watching. And they'd seen everything.

Ooh, who do you think was watching? Comment bellow who you think.. or you know.. don't because no one ever seems too. Anyway I am ridiculously sorry about the late update. But I have gotten over my writers block and I will be uploading again this weekend. I know where this story is going now. Finally!
