“…another child went missing in Toledo, Ohio, yesterday after 11 am. The boy was taken from his high school right after he finished his lunch. Eye witnesses state that the boy was being carried away by a man in a black ski mask. We believe that this kidnapping is involved with a series of kidnapping that are linked together, if we are correct, then this is the ninth child missing so far.  4 girls, and now 5 boys, seeming to spread out across America. Each child is from a different U.S. state...   The boy who was kidnapped yesterday in Toledo is named Thomas Cole, if you see this person-“ a picture of a boy who looked to be the age of 18 danced across the screen.  “Then please contact your local police immediately.  Back to you John” the news reporter Kim Huang ended her little segment. I clicked the remote to turn the TV off. Toledo is only 45 minutes away from where I live. I could be next, and knowing my luck, I will be next. I stood up and cleared my mind completely. I always made everything a big deal, even though it isn’t.

I won’t be kidnapped. Clear that thought. I won’t be kidnapped.

I walked away from the living room and put my cereal bowl in the sink. Noticing my mom standing in the doorway I flitted to her side and gave her a hug.

“I’m scared mom, what if I’m next?”  I mumbled into her warm purple sweater.

She pushed me back and held me at arm’s length, scanning my face to see if there was any real fear… which there wasn’t, I’m not feeling the school mood at the moment.

“No.  What’s the likelihood of him coming to your school?  Pioneer High is not going to be the next target.  He is only hitting small town areas where people would least likely expect it. Plus why strike twice in the same week? No, same twenty four hours?” I nodded at her logic and scooped up my backpack and scuttled out the door.

“I love you!” she said loudly.

I waved my mom goodbye and began walking to school. From my house, my school was less than ten minutes away. I plugged in my headphones and started to listen to ‘Today’s Hits Radio’ on Pandora radio. On my walk, I saw all the familiar landscape I see everyday. Same tree, same houses, and the same University of Michigan football stadium. As I passed the football stadium, I approached Pioneer High School’s parking lot. Today, the parking lot was crowded. There was a car in every spot. Without warning, my clique ran up to me and starting showering me with gossip. I smiled at every person who spoke. I'm what you considered popular. That's only because of my boyfriend, but hey, you don't see me complaining!

My boyfriend, I bet, was the biggest player in the state of Michigan. He’s the star quarterback of Pioneer’s football team, a star on the track team, and he is the most popular boy in our grade. By dating him, that automatically made me the most popular girl in our grade.

A wanna-be girl named Erin came around to my side and linked her arm around mine. I looked into her cold green eyes and she gave me a toothy grin, then began to talk about a boy in her Spanish class. Together, we walked into our high school and she walked me to my first hour. I waved Erin off as I headed into my Math class. I dragged my feet to the back of  the class. I slung my bag over the back of the chair, as I slid into my seat next to my best friend Quinn.  She gave me a smile.
