~Leight's POV
I slowly sculpted my loose bun in the mirror, strands of my light brown hair falling around my oval-shaped face. Slowly putting my hands down, I turned myself around scoping out how I looked. My navy blue and teal varsity hoodie and teal skirt with black leggings underneath looked rather good on me if I didn't say so myself. I nodded at my reflection, satisfied, and walked out of the bathroom.
I went into Victoria's room and plopped down on her bed watching as she stuffed her clothes into a suitcase. By her sluggish mannerism and the grimace on her lips anyone could guess she was loathing to go anywhere near her parents this weekend.
"What do you think the witch has planned for us?" I asked, thinking some conversation would keep her from being so irritated.
She stuffed more clothes into the bag. "No doubt something that'll help her control my life as she just lovessss doing."
I smiled. "Okay we both agree that your step mom needs a new hobby, but there's no way I'll allow her to control my best friend's life."
"My hero," Vic laughed lightly.
"Hey, it's what I do!" I said shrugging playfully.
Vic closed down her suitcase and began zipping it up, when the zipper became jammed. "Hey, hero, get over here and help me."
"No probs." I crawled over and sat on top of the suitcase. "Who knows," I started as she zipped, "maybe it won't be too bad. Maybe your brother really does miss you and we can hang out with him."
She scrunched up her nose in disgust. "That brat? All he cares about is video games; I doubt he even realized I'd left."
When she finished zipping, I climbed off the bag and she picked it up, setting it upright on the floor. "Well we'll jus have to take it a day at a time. On the bright side, it's technically a free vacation!"
"Yeah, to the worst place on earth," Vic scoffed. She rolled her bag out into the living room planting it beside the sofa. "Alright, checklist."
"Right," I said taking the checklist out of my back pocket.
"Toothbrush?"
"Check."
"Underwear and socks?"
She looked at me confused. "Um, duh, check. Who forgets that?"
I shrugged and continued. "Phone and phone charger?"
Vic paused and pat down her pockets looking around for her phone. Coming up empty, she went back into her room and returned with her phone and its charger, putting the charger into the front pocket of her suitcase and the phone in her jeans pocket. "Check and check."
"Alright, glasses?"
She gave me a look of surprise and shook her head. "No way, I'm not taking those!"
"Why not? The only thing to do on that long ass plane ride is read and you need your glasses for that. Plus you look super cute in 'em!"
"Stop lying, you know I look like a total dork when I wear those. I'll just sleep the whole plane ride."
"Are you even sleepy?"
Vic hesitated for a moment, averting her eyes to the side. "No... But that's beside the point!"
I gave her a look of disapproval. "Vic, come on."
She groaned and dragged herself over to the dresser in the living room in which the lamp sat upon and took out her black glasses case from the bottom drawer. "Fine. You happy? Now, how about you? You got your retainer?"
"Hey I don't even need that anymore, so don't bring it up!"
After having a laughing fit, we finished both our lists and called up a taxi. The taxi drove us to the airport downtown and Vic and I split the bill as we usually did before going inside.
"What's the flight number?" I asked as we made our way through the crowd to the screen in the middle of the room that showed the flight statuses.
"Flight 305."
We both looked up, scanning for our flight. "There it is," I said seeing it flash onto the screen. "Boarding in 20 minutes," I read.
"Let's go find a seat in the waiting area until it's time," Vic suggested.
We walked over to a pair of seats and sat down with our bags. "Hey you want something from Starbucks?" Vic asked after a while, jabbing her thumb in the direction of the cafe behind us. I thought for a moment and decided to just get a piece of pumpkin bread.
"Alright, you just sit pretty and I'll be back in the sec."
"Nah, I'll come with you," I said, about to stand.
"No need," she said stopping me, "it's not like I'm gonna get lost."
"You sure? I mean sometimes you get a little-" I circled my finger around my head and made a ca-ca face.
She laughed. "Shutup! If you leave with me, there'd be no one to watch our bags. So stay. I'll be back."
With that, Vic left, disappearing into the crowd around us. I dug into my bag, getting out one of the books I'd brought and began reading. I was starting to get pretty far into the book, when I realized Vic wasn't back yet. Looking at the clock on the wall, it was nearly time for our flight to board.
I looked around towards Starbucks, but couldn't spot her out of the hundreds of people that clouded my view. "If she seriously got lost," I muttered under my breath as I closed my book and stuffed it into my bag.
I gathered up our bags and headed toward the cafe as I fished my phone out of my pocket and dialed Vic's number. Looking up from my phone, I saw Vic standing a few feet in front on me with a cup of coffee in one hand and my bread in the other. I sighed, canceling the call and started walking toward her.
"Vic! Hey, where were y-?" I stopped short in my tracks when I saw who stood in front of her. "Oh my god why now of all times?" I muttered when my eyes caught sight of Jeremy.
