AUTHOR'S NOTE - OKAY 2 CHAPTERS IN ONE DAY! WHAT IS THIS MADNESS! Okay i just wanted to get caught up and sturf. ONWARDS

Rythian and I had become quick friends after that day. I had even become the mage's apprentice, learning everything he knew. My life was perfect; I had forgotten about my old life, I had a new friend and no fear of dying. This continued until she decided to come and ruin everything.

At first Zoey had seemed nice and sweet. I had been overjoyed that Rythian had found someone to love, even if I couldn't properly meet her.

Then I started to lose Rythian to her. My once close friend had been stolen from me. He focused all his time on teaching Zoey, leaving me alone to do my own thing. He had once said that they would be friends forever, but now all he cared about was keeping the mushroom girl happy and content.

I put up with it for months, believing that Rythian would remember me, but one night I cracked.

That night was like any other night. I was sitting on my bed with my nose in a book about science, I had finished learning all the magic books could teach me, when I heard the door to my room creak open.

"You could knock you know," I laughed, not looking up from my book. "What are you reading," Rythian said coldly. "Oh I'm sorry did I make you break your streak of ignoring me," I mumbled sarcastically. "I'm not ignoring you," He said angrily. "Mmmh-hmm," I responded. Rythian was obviously trying, and failing, to not get angry.

"What. Are. You. Reading," He said through gritted teeth. "Oh, it's just a book about science I found when I went for my daily walk," I said nonchalantly. "SCIENCE! YOU ARE READING ABOUT FREAKING SCIENCE," He screamed. "Yeah, I am. Because you got soooo caught up in your relationship with Zoey you forgot all about me, your ex-best friend, and I had to teach myself everything you forgot to. Eventually I ran out of things to study, so I when I found a book I hadn't read 1000 times it was a jackpot," I responded.

I could feel the anger rising in my chest and it took all of my will power to keep it down. "Molly give that here," Rythian spat. "No!" I said, defiantly hugging the book to my thin body. "GIVE IT," Rythian screamed. I felt a strong wind start to whip around the room and she could tell Rythian was going out of control.

"No," I said louder, hugging the hardcover tighter. The wind picked up and I could feel the ground start to shake. My room was a mess. Rythian's wind was blowing all of my notes, books, and clothes everywhere and the shaking had knocked over most of my furniture.

Rythian flew over to me and sneered at the tears threatening to fall. "A real mage doesn't cry," Rythian laughed before starting to claw at my arms. I winced in pain when I felt his grip tighten around my arm and start to pull it away from my shaking body. "Rythian! Stop, please! You're hurting me," I cried quietly, but my words had no effect as Rythian pulled the book from my grasp, causing me to fly backwards.

Crashing against the wall, I felt a new wave of pain hit me as I tried to sit up. Suddenly I felt my body leave the ground and turning my neck I saw my old friend using his magic to make me levitate.

"Rythian," I questioned quietly, fear overtaking my sobs. The man's eyes had no pupils and his mask had flown off. Where the purple mask covered was scars, so many scars. The area around his mouth was slightly black and his maniacal grin was full of sharp pointy teeth. I couldn't get a better look because I was thrown into my bookcase. Another round of sobs overtook my body and the last thing I saw before blacking out was Rythian's face returning to normal and, upon seeing what he had done, fill with horror.

When I had woken up I already knew that I was leaving. Rythian wouldn't make eye contact with me and I was covered with bruises. I collected my books, notes, and clothes and shoved them into my worn purple alchemical bag along with some supplies.

I clicked on my flying ring and before turning to leave I gave Rythian a quick hug and whispered, "Goodbye old friend." I flew out of the door and gave the house I had been living in for the last few months one last look before flying away.

Rythian's POV

That night after she left I had burst into tears. She had been my first friend. She had been right about everything she had said the night before and I myself for what I had done. I had hurt her, I had promised myself I would never do it, but I had. I held the book I had taken from her that horrible night to my chest.

I had taken it from her out of worry. I didn't want her to end up like me. I didn't want her to die the same death my parents had. Science at first was something I put up with. Now I didn't want anything to do with it at all. All it brought me was pain. First it killed my parents, then turned me into a monster, and then it had stolen my friend right under my nose. After that night I only had Zoey. Without her I would have seen no reason to continue.

That night I had left the house of bad memories. I built a terrifying mage tower out of nether brick. I thought no one would able to stop me. I had isolated myself from everyone. I couldn't hurt anyone else. I couldn't let anyone go through what I had put Molly through.
