The Pessimists Guide: On Being A Hero

Chapter 2

I woke up, face looking up at the ceiling, and my head surprisingly not throbbing at all! I silently made a pact with myself that I was to never use electronics with wet hands ever again, and slowly got up.

Now you're probably wondering, "Hey! Doesn't this kid have parents? Where were they when a scream and a thud came from upstairs?" Simple answer is, they weren't home yet. Which was lucky for me because I would have had quite a bit of trouble explaining how my hands were burning through the carpet like an iron.........   

Errrm it's pretty obvious Zac, you're a super!

"No I'm not!"

Are too......

"Am not!!"

Yhh you're confused again. Basically, my town is just dead. As in, nothing ever happens. At all. You'd think that since every town and city near us has at least 5 supers, that we'd have a couple. Apparently, the good lord said no. Firmly. In this town, if you get super powers, everyone wants to be villains for some reason! Every time out town gets saved, it's by the next town's avaliable hero, and quite frankly, it gets annoying.

Anyways, there was bigger problems than that to sort out. The government had basically had enough of everyone in our town turning evil, so they set up a military department especially equipped to take out supers. They had experimental weapons, but also had a tracking device that could pick up new supers so they could take them out before they turned evil. You'd think that was a good thing, but unfortunately this department had a policy of shoot first, ask questions later, which lead to a lot of innocent, well meaning supers disappearing. And I don't want that happening to me, do I??

Nope!

S. C. R. E. W. E. D. (Super Conflict and Repression Equipped  With Experimental weaponry Department) would have their hands full looking for me. I didn't intend to let that stupidly named department take me down without a fight.
