When we exited the Tardis we were greeted with the sight of a massive city across a river from us, flying cars zoomed over our heads and into the city. It was amazing.
"It's the year five billion and twenty three. We're in the galaxy M87, and this? This is New Earth." The Doctor explained as we just stared at the landscape.
"That's just. That's just -"
The Doctor cut me off, grinning "Not bad. Not bad at all."
"That's amazing. I'll never get used to this ever. Different ground beneath my feet, different sky. What's that smell?"
The Doctor gave me a 'you're going to love this' grin before answering "Apple grass."
I rolled my eyes at him "Oh yes, how could I have not recognised it sooner? Apple grass."
The Doctor laughed, pushing me away slightly "Yeah, yeah."
"It's beautiful." Rose spoke up, wrapping her arm around the Doctor's "Oh, I love this. Can I just say, traveling with you, I love it." Cue eye roll here. Seriously?
The Doctor cleared his throat slightly before smiling and offering me his other arm. "Me too. Come on."
The Doctor led us over to a patch of grass, throwing his coat down for all three of us to lie on, looking up at the city.
"So, the year five billion, the sun expands, the Earth gets roasted-"the Doctor started to explain but Rose cut him off.
"That was our first date." Really?
The Doctor nodded awkwardly as I turned back to look at the cityscape. "We had chips. So anyway, the planet is gone, all rocks and dust, but the human race lives on, spread out across the stars. Soon as the Earth burns up, oh yeah, they get all nostalgic, big revival movement, but then find this place. Same size as the Earth, same air, same orbit. Lovely. Call goes out, the humans move in."
"So, what's the city called?" I asked, not looking away from the view.
He nudged me slightly, causing me to look over at his wide grin "New New York."
I laughed "No way, you cannot be serious."
The Doctor just nodded, enthusiastically. "It is. It's the city of New New York. Strictly speaking, it's the fifteenth New York since the original, so that makes it New New New New New New New New New New New New New New York. What?" he caught the look I was giving him.
I went to reply but Rose got there first "You're so different."
So not what I was going to say...
"New New Doctor." the Doctor smiled at her.
I stood up from my place on the coat. "Can we go and visit New New York, so good they named it twice?"
The Doctor put out his hand for me to help him up; I raised an eyebrow but did so anyway. Once we were up he pointed to a pair of curved skyscrapers that were off to the side of the city, on our side of the river. "Well, I thought we might go there first."
"Why, what is it?" Rose asked.
"It's a hospital." Ever since I had found out the reasoning behind the weird outbursts it was easier to speak my mind.
The Doctor smiled and nodded at me. We had yet to tell Rose about the development yet. I wasn't really ready to be seen as something other than just 'Nina'. "Green moon on the side. That's the universal symbol for hospitals. I got this. A message on the psychic paper." The words 'Ward 26 Please Come' were scrawled across it. Of course, there was trouble. When wasn't there with the Doctor? "Someone wants to see me."
