Malorie's POV
countless calls were made but none were answered..
the cool night air crept across my face as I walked down the dark streets of my neighborhood. It was 1:17 exactly and here I was, walking around outside at a dangerous hour drunk, because I was locked out of my own house.
street lamps were the only thing that lit up the pitch blackness as I walked down the familiar streets to my destination.
suddenly, the view in front of me got brighter and brighter, and the sound of a vehicle driving from behind me got louder and louder. I looked over my shoulder, and sure enough, there was someone driving behind me. I thought they would've continued driving but whoever it was didn't drive past me, they stopped. I started to walk faster when I began to hear footsteps after the sound of a rusty door slam shut.
as the footsteps got louder, indicating that the person was close behind, my feet started to carry me away as fast as they could without me even realizing. I didn't dare to look back."Malorie!" I heard deep voice call from behind me.
knowing exactly who it was, my pace quickened. It almost got to the point where I started sprinting when I heard the person again,
"slow the fuck down!" the voice yelled.
I knew that he would soon catch up to me so I gave in and stopped running.
I slowly turned around, and a low gasp escaped my mouth. he was a lot closer to me then I thought, our chests were practically touching. though if they were, I'm sure he would be able to feel my heart beating out of my chest from running so fast."what now Luke?" I sighed.
he was breathing heavily, clearly from chasing after me for at least a solid minute."I walked you home for nothing I see." he reached into his pocket, pulling out a pack of cigarettes. I watched closely as he lit the cancer filled stick and slowly put it into his mouth, letting out a puff of smoke. as much as I hated to admit it, Luke was extremely good looking, he really was. the way he would bite his lip then tug on his lip ring, or run his hands through his messy hair when he would get stressed or annoyed happened to be very attractive.
I happened to notice these small things even though I didn't see him very often.. it was weird.
his personality was the awful thing about him though, it's what ruined him from being a decent guy.
well, that's what I thought atleast.I shook my head and looked up at him. "the door was locked and no one was answering my calls so now I'm walking to Faiths." I started walking down the road again and Luke followed behind.
"I wouldn't do that if I were you," he coughed. I looked over at him with a puzzled look on my face.
he took another long drag of his cigarette before continuing,
"when I said Calum took your friend home did you seriously think that he would just drop her off and leave?"what the hell is he talking about? I know Faith, and she's definitely not the type to do that kind of thing with someone she just met. as for Calum, well he's the opposite. he's like Luke in that way, always hooking up with random girls they rarely knew.
"Faith wouldn't do that, I know she wouldn't." I was starting to get a bit annoyed by Luke's hopefully false accusations.
"maybe she wouldn't, but Calum sure would."
he was right.
"ugh great, now I officially have nowhere to go." I sat down on the curb bellow us, putting my head in my hands. could this night get any worse? honestly.
"well I'm not going to just leave you here" Luke sighed, "come back to my house.."
I looked up at him once again, this time a bit shocked. did he really just invite me to stay at his place for the night? I mean I wasn't going to pass up the offer seeing as how there was nowhere else for me to go but still, this wasn't even one of Calum's "duties".
a slight smile spread across my face and I nodded. we both started walking back in the direction of his truck when I remembered,
"wait a second, haven't you been drinking tonight?"
"I don't drink at party's.." he replied.
Luke Hemmings doesn't drink at party's my ass.as much as I didn't want to believe him, the look on his face was dead serious, he really wasn't joking.
-
the drive to Luke's house was filled with a not awkward, but surprisingly comfortable silence. I guess neither of us really new what to say to each other.
we pulled up into a gravel driveway and stopped in front of his house. it was big, maybe even three stories high.
just as I was about to open the car door Luke stopped me,"I uhm, you stay here I'm just gonna check if my parents are home." he mumbled, hopping out of his truck.
when he went to open the front door I noticed that he looked a little hesitant. I'm sure it was nothing though.-
seven minutes past and I was still waiting for Luke to come back.
I started picking at my nails due to being a little nervous. I worried that I wouldn't be welcomed into Luke's house for tonight and I really would have to spend the rest of my night homeless.the sudden sound of screaming voices rang through my ears as I looked up to see Luke storming back over to the truck. he looked beyond angry, I mean I've seen him like this before but not quite to this extent.
"are you alright? what happened-"
"shut the fuck up Malorie!" he hissed and I flinched away.
I guess I should've known to stay quiet, but I was curious.I shifted in my seat so I could turn and face Luke. he had his head on the steering wheel, and I could just barely hear him whispering profanities under his breath. I lifted my hand up from my lap and lightly placed it on Luke's thigh and It almost felt as if he had calmed under my touch. as cliché as it sounds.
he exhaled, "I didn't mean to yell at you like that, I'm just pissed off." he looked over at me and I saw something I hadn't noticed before. his lip was bleeding and he had a small gash on his forehead just above his eyebrow.
"Luke- what happened to you?" I said in a soft tone.
I went to go move my hand from Luke's thigh but he grabbed it and put it back, resting his hand on top of mine. although the gesture seemed a little out of place, it was most likely comforting for him, and I'm sure that's what he needed right now.
"don't worry about it. I have another place where we can go tonight anyway."
I didn't say anything, I didn't know what to say.
It was all weird to me, before today Luke wouldn't even look at me without glaring, but now, all of a sudden his mood changes drastically and he's looking out for me? It just didn't seem right. I knew that once school started again on Monday Luke would go back to his normal self and continue disliking me.
his attitude towards me wouldn't stay like this forever.
although a small part of me wish it could.
