"We need to warn them," I lowered my voice and told Owen. The man continued to scowl at the massive screen. The two of us stood side by side in growing tension. "They don't know what they are dealing with," I remarked.
Claire was clearly shaken. But impressively she took her stance and left everybody to actions, even though they were obviously doomed plans. "We can't do anything about it now," Owen grunted and crossed his arms, his figure stilled as he concentrated on the activity that was going on on the full screen. "They are all going to die," Owen muttered alas.
If she had caught our words, Claire didn't show it. She peeked at us before turning back to the screen. The whole room was tight with silence. There was no turning back now. The team was out and they were ready to face their fates. All the other staff watched the screen with fear or anxiety in their faces.
We waited, as the team approached a narrow stream. The leading asian man held up a hand abruptly, pausing all others' movements. I glanced from one camera to another, examining the mission from all sort of angles.
The man knelt as he picked up something. The hair on the back of my neck stood as he leaned in closer to have a better look. There was a collective gasps in the room. "It's its tractor," the man concluded neutrally. He was professional and calm, ready for anything, but definitely not this.
The device was surrounded by a lump of meat. There were drips of blood on the flesh. My hand reached up to clap over my mouth. "The blood is not clotted yet," the man observed, drawing the worst conclusion in my head.
The event escalated quickly. With a deafening howl, the man snapped his head up, lifting the camera that was attached to his hat. Everybody in the room stared in horror as the Indominus Rex emerged from the bushes, its body changed colour as it did so.
"It can camouflage!" the man yelled and before he could do anything, the Indominus Rex snatched him up like a stick and began to fling him around. The rest of the team fired their shots, merely annoying the rex as it smacked the leader into the stream and crushed him with a stomp.
A sharp beep on the side indicated the man's death. When I peered to the corner, there was only a straight green line next to his profile picture. I gaped.
It didn't take three minutes for the rex to take down three other men. Owen's hand found mine in the process, and we held onto each other as the horror unfolded. When the last member of the team cried out for help just seconds before she was engulfed by the rex, I turned on my heels and headed for the elevator. I felt queasy and sick. I couldn't believe Claire actually allowed those men to try capturing the rex.
We had to kill the rex. There was no other way around it. Owen was hot on my steps. He followed me into the elevator just before the doors slid close. "Are you okay?" the man looked concerned. I ignored him as I gripped onto the rail, inhaling shakily to calm myself. In my head, I counted from one to ten, then back to forth.
"We need to stop it," I said at last. The space was silent and Owen nodded. He understood. I locked gaze with him, catching the glint of determination in his eyes. "We need to figure what the hell is in that dino, Owen. We don't even know what we're dealing with."
So that was our plan. We were going to barge right into the lab to look for the head of developer, question him and hopefully we could get what we wanted. We were halfway across the lobby when Claire called out for us.
"Owen! Stacey!" The woman's face was pale as she stumbled towards us. She looked between us desperately before she reached out to hold Owen's arms. I frowned. "Please, I need your help," Claire pleaded and glanced between us. "My nephews are still in the park. I promised my sister I'm going to look after them-"
She was trembling. I held up a hand to slow her. "Okay, tell us about the boys."
Owen nodded. "How old are they?"
Claire tried to gesture and imagined their heights. The woman stuttered and never managed to tell their age. I narrowed my eyes at her while Owen sulked. "You don't even know how old they are?"
Claire dropped her hands and her shoulders slumped. "Please," she whispered, watching Owen for a moment before levelling gaze with me. At last, I nodded. Owen caught my eyes and we knew we had to help Claire. Just as we were heading to the exit of the building, my walkie talkie cracked and Barry's voice spoke up.
"Owen, if you're with Stacey, we have a situation here."
Further statics cackled in the device. I pulled it off my waist belt and held it near my mouth. "This is Stacey. Owen is with me and we copied that. What is happening?"
"Victor is here-" Barry's words were cut short by bad connection. Owen's face fell instantly, and I gulped. His arms tensed and I could catch glimpse of his pulsing muscles.
"Barry, I'm coming. Just hold him off and make sure he doesn't go near the raptors," I ordered before hanging my walkie talkie back on my waist belt. Barry never replied and I hoped he had got my message. I looked between Claire and Owen, realising we had our separate ways to go. Owen watched me closely, he seemed uncertain and worried. Exhaling quietly, I leaned on my toes and actually pecked him on his cheeks.
He stared with wide eyes.
I blushed and muttered, "Be careful." Turning on my heels, I headed out to look for a ride. I didn't glance back to check his reaction. There was no point anyway. Even if he liked me back, it didn't matter if we couldn't live through today.
---------------------------------------------------------
Personally, I prefer making up my own story plot alongside with the movie plot. Hence, I'm going to make Owen and Stacey go separate ways:) I hope you like this chapter!
