"Si-... America?"
No response. No reaction. He was just laying there with his eyes halfway open. Not asleep, nor awake. Neither dead, nor alive. There was nothing there. He was nothing more than a living corpse. No strength to carry on. More than 4 days awake so far. But yet he didn't let go.
"America, can you hear me?"
The Captain tried but to no avail. No response. No reaction. If they weren't monitoring his heartbeat he could swear that he isn't there anymore.
"If you can hear me... I want you to know that I'm sorry..."
America barely moved his eyes to look at him.
"I hope you can forgive me some day... And hopefully you will forgive yourself too..."
"W-what... did... you... d-do...," America asked in a shaky, barely audible voice.
"I'm really sorry..."
The Captain placed a mask onto his mouth. Not knowing what it was he immediately tried to get it off. His heartbeat spiked drastically.
"America, don't. Please..."
He tried to hold him down but no matter how weak he was he'd still try to free his hands. He held his breath, refusing to breath in whatever this gas was they were giving him.
"Let him go!"
That voice. It's familiar. America stopped struggling. His hands were free again but he couldn't get the mask off on his own. That's what he feared it was. Sedatives.
The mask was removed from his face slowly and gently.
"When did you get here?"
"I was on my way as soon as you called," Soviet replied to Captain while keeping his eyes on America.
"Any suggestions on how we're going to transport him to Moscow? He won't cooperate."
"Well this is not the solution."
He threw the mask away.
"Bring me water to his tent. We'll meet there."
"But-"
Soviet simply ignored him. He picked America up in his arms and carried him out of the medical department.
The Captain was in shock but went to do as he was told.
After all he didn't know who else to call. He was his safest solution. But he knew he had a lot of explaining to do. Either him, or America after he recovers.
--------------------------------------------
"I can't believe this kid..."
He put a wet cloth on his forehead and then went back to sit in his chair right beside his bed. America fell asleep in his arms as he carried him. Now it has been more than 15 hours of him sleeping. And Soviet sat next to him the entire time.
He'd occasionally lift his head up to give him some water and check his vitals for any changes.
"Sir?"
Soviet turned his head to look at the man walking towards him. He had a few bags of IV in his hands. Just on time, the one he was hooked up on has almost ran out.
"I added the supplements in the IV as the doctor prescribed."
"Good," Soviet replied as he took it from him and went to replace the almost empty one.
"Anything else I can do for you?"
"I guess not. I have far too many questions but you shouldn't be the one answering them for him."
