They walked onto the beach. Jonathan grabbed two towels and tossed one to Clary. She took it gratefully.
She felt so exposed in the bikini, especially after talking to that weird guy. She wrapped herself in the towel, glad for something to block the freezing wind.
She went to the bathroom and changed back into her clothes.
Jonathan was waiting outside. "Ready, little sister?""Yes, where to?"
"Back to the hotel, if that's okay with you."
Clary nodded and they walked towards the exit together.
They ate Chinese in their hotel room and sat around making light conversation.
No matter what Clary did, however, her thoughts kept returning to the boy at the beach. Jace. He was so infuriating and stuck up to think that she could ever like him. He was the first boy she'd met outside of family relations and Circle members but if all guys were like that... There was something else about him that Clary couldn't decipher. Why was he stuck in her head?
She stood suddenly. She needed to stop thinking about him.
Clary held out her hand to Jonathan and heaved him up.
"Where are we going?" He asked.
"Demon hunting," she replied, "get your gear."
Jonathan's eyes glinted in the dim lighting, "Sweet. I have an idea of where we can go, but don't wear your gear. We're going to a club."
After a while of searching for something to wear and finding nothing, Jonathan gave her a strapless, short, black dress. Where he got it, Clary had no idea, but she had no better options.
Going into her room she tried it on. It was short and tight and the sides were missing, covered only by thin, see through lace. In short, it was not her typical outfit.
She glanced in the mirror and jumped. There was Jonathan, leaning against the door frame.
"Ready, little sister?" He asked.
Collecting herself Clary replied, "I don't have my weapons yet."
He padded over to her, "that's easy, just hide them in a place easy to for you to reach but out of sight."
Clary gave a laugh, "easy for you to say, I have no where to hide any weapons!"
Jonathan handed her a tall pair of leather boots that had six inch heals. "Here, you can hide them in your boots."
"Yeah, um, how on earth am I supposed to walk in those things?" Clary asked pointedly.
Jonathan just rolled his eyes, "You'll be fine."
Sighing, Clary pulled them on. Even wearing them, she was still shorter than Jonathan. "Jeez, Jonathan! Why are you so tall?"
He laughed, "I don't know, why are you so short?"
Clary punched him in the shoulder.
"Play nice now, little sis!" He said still laughing, "we all know it's true!""Ok," Clary said grudgingly, "I might not be tall," -Jonathan snorted at that-"but, that doesn't mean I can't kill more demons than you."
"Oh, it's on!" He said grinning.
Clary shoved a couple of seraph blades and a stele into her boots and the two set off, racing each other down the many flights of stairs -Jonathan won- and hailed a taxi to the club.
They climbed out of the car once they got there. Clary looked up at the sign: Pandemonium, with the 'demon' part bolder than the rest.
"This is the place?" She asked her brother.
